Sol Barbacan Aptos./Bung.

Fantastic stay at Sol Barbacan, 11 nights half board in a 2 bed bungalow. We could not fault this hotel, from arrival to departure it was a wonderful experience. ALL the staff were extremely helpful, hard working and always smiling which shows that the management team are looking after their staff and providing a happy environment to work in. The holiday can be as hectic or quiet as you like, with plenty of poolside and evening entertainment, (the entertainment tribe were brilliant) or you can just relax in your bungalow on the patio or sun terrace. Excellent selection of food for breakfast and evening meal with tastes for all ages. We have no negatives on the Sol Barbacan you really must try it, you won't be disappointed. We enjoyed our holiday so much that we intend to return in May 2027.

I’m staying at the Sol Barbacan at this very moment as I am writing this review. This is the second time I have stayed here with my husband and it is a pleasure to stay here again after one years' absence. The hotel was built in the 1970s by the father of a Dutch lady called Barbara, hence its name. The hotel has undergone several refurbishments and improvements over the years but it's clear it has been made to very high standards right from the outset. Our half-board accommodation comprises a large sitting room with sofa bed, a large double bedroom, separate toilet, bathroom and shower, and a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and small hot plate. There are two large pools and a couple of smaller ones for the kids including a jacuzzi. The main pool nearest the rooms is very efficiently heated, meaning its temperature is perfect making it possible to swim even if the day is on the cool side. Our breakfast is very good, it’s a buffet type breakfast with a huge amount of choice. The evening meal is also presented on the same lines with the addition of chefs cooking for the guests there and then whatever is fresh on the day. But what makes this hotel so special are the people that work in it – from the reception desk to the room maids, all the way through to the people who work in the restaurant (and even some workmen going around doing their jobs now and then) everyone is super friendly, polite and so kind it almost seems like you’re in a dream world. Our room maid, Noelia comes every morning and she is so lovely I just want to take her home with me! She is always smiling and seems so happy to help, it really makes our morning time that more special. All the other ladies who do the cleaning are also lovely but for us, our interaction with Noelia, is what we love every day. Over the years I have stayed in dozens of hotels in many different countries, including America and France where politeness and welcoming seems to have passed them by. This hotel surpasses all of them in every way! If I had any constructive criticisms to offer for this hotel, there would only be one; it concerns the entertainment that is presented every evening. It would be nice if at least some nights it had a Spanish theme such as flamenco, and for music / singing acts to be appropriate for the tastes of majority of the guests who are of the older generation. Now all I have to do is win the lottery so that I can come to the Sol Barbacan more often and spend time surrounded by its lovely workers.

My partner and I spent seven nights at this hotel, and we absolutely loved every moment! The reception staff were incredibly friendly and polite, and the cleaning lady was an absolute delight — she greeted us with a big smile every single day and truly brightened our stay. The hotel was spotless and wonderfully peaceful, which was exactly what we were looking for. We spent most of our time at the adults-only pool, and it was perfect. There were always plenty of sunbeds available, and the atmosphere was so calm and relaxing — a real highlight of our trip. We didn’t try the hotel’s restaurants as we enjoy exploring different places to eat, so we can’t comment on the food overall. But we did have breakfast at the hotel once for €13 each, and it was great value with lots of delicious options. Overall, we had an amazing experience and would 100% choose this hotel again the next time we visit Gran Canaria!

We have just returned and what an amazing hotel. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. We went half board and the food was delicious and so much choice . We’ve never had such a delicious breakfast buffet. Dinner in the evenings was delicious too with so much variety. You could pay extra and have A La Carte. We had one of the apartment rooms with a balcony and two sun beds and it was so clean. We would definitely recommend Melia hotels.

We stayed at the Sol Barbacan for 7 nights at Easter, when we arrived we were quickly registered and off we went. We had booked a 2 bed bungalow with breakfast. We arrived at the bungalow, very clean and spacious, one room had an en-suite and the other had a king size bed and separate bathroom. There was a temperate drying area outside for wet clothes and a terrace and a roof terrace. We have been to many places and I have to say the Sol Barbacan was pretty faultless. It was lovely and quiet around the grounds and outside the apartment. The pool we used near the padel courts opened at 10am, no need to rush to put towels down as even by mid day there were still some left. Life guard by the pool all the and the pool was heated which was amazing for our daughter and us. What was great is there was activities on during the day, French boules, bingo, darts, magic carpet in the pool, cocktail making. Honestly I can’t raise the place enough as we all got involved, if you wanted to! There was no pushy staff making you do these things but it really made the family holiday. I would like to sincerely thank Max, day in day out his very friendly attitude and fun really made each day great he always went over and above and was fun to be around. Kane and Carlos were also great and really got us involved. Throughout the whole accommodation the staff were exceptional, very polite and the cleaning of the room was outstanding. There was an excellent choice at breakfast, again we couldn’t fault this! Overall I would give the Sol Barbacan 10/10, we will definitely be returning but we hope we can book exactly the same bungalow next time as it was perfect. Thanks for such an amazing holiday!!!

We have just returned from a wonderful week away on a family holiday with our little girl. It was her first trip abroad, and I’m so pleased we chose the Sol Barbacan. While Playa del Inglés itself wouldn’t be somewhere I’d choose to return to, this review is focused on the hotel rather than the resort. We spent a great deal of our time enjoying the hotel and its pool areas, and on the occasions we ventured out, we used taxis or a hire car to explore other places nearby. There are many reasons why the Sol Barbacan stands out as such an excellent place to stay: The staff are warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful without ever feeling intrusive. A special mention must go to Nira (apologies if I’ve misspelt her name), who runs the mini club and mini disco. Our daughter absolutely adored her. She goes above and beyond to ensure the children are happy and engaged, and her energy is truly infectious. Thank you so much! The atmosphere throughout the hotel is calm and relaxing rather than loud or chaotic. With three main pool areas, there’s something to suit everyone—whether you prefer complete tranquillity in the adults-only pool, a more balanced setting near the restaurant, or a livelier environment in the third pool, with splash pool, and baby pool with music and activities throughout the day. The rooms are spotless, generously sized, and very comfortable. We slept well (despite being in a 2 bedroom apartment over the bar area), and the beds were particularly cosy. The evening entertainment offers a nice variety, with some nights being more laid-back and others a bit more upbeat. The half-board evening buffet is amazing, offering a wide selection of delicious, high-quality dishes that are both plentiful and tasty. Breakfast is great too, with an extensive choice of options and consistently good quality food. Thank you for such a lovely holiday.

Really good hotel - 1 bedroom apt spacious & clean. Staff & swimming pools excellent. Breakfast selection good but poor quality bacon & sausages.
