The best hotel in this area, bar none, but it can only be reached by car. The front desk is friendly and the restaurant service is quite satisfying. Remember to make reservations for restaurants and swimming pools, otherwise you may not have a seat

Myself and my husband visited Boringdon Hall for our 10 year wedding anniversary which was a surprise booking (by my husband). He had researched a hotel that was fairly local to ourselves (SE Cornwall) that had a spa and suites available. We initially stayed in the Wellness Suites (Oct 2023) which were very impressive but we had a few (fairly substantial) issues with our stay, fortunately after speaking with a manager these were rectified. We then revisited in November and stayed in the Royal Suite, and cannot find a single fault about our stay. We received a really warm welcome at reception and appreciated the welcome drinks (Mulled Wine) we had also additionally booked the Festive afternoon tea which was superb, one of the best afternoon tea experiences I’ve had. All the staff at the hotel were very attentive. We did have to knock on the office door when we visited the spa to gain someone’s attention after standing in the lobby for several minutes, and we would have preferred a member of the spa staff to show us the facilities as it took wandering to find the quiet rooms and additional areas that were further from the poolside, you can also access the Spa Restaurant directly from the spa which would’ve been helpful to know as we could’ve gone straight to breakfast from the spa as w had seen others have done. These are small things to point out that could hopefully be rectified for other guests in the future. Our room was exemplary. It was situated in the main house which is such a wonderful old building. The suite itself is accessed via a staircase (this was not an issue whatsoever to us) and the bathroom within the suite accessed via another small staircase. We loved the quirks of the room. The mini bar was a great addition. And the hot tub had fantastic views across the town and over to Dartmoor, such a great addition. The bed was one of the comfiest I’ve slept in when staying in a hotel and we did not hear a noise from any other part of the hotel during our stay. Dinner in the Mayflower Brasserie was great, the staff did have to be reminded to bring my husbands wine over, and this unfortunately happened on both trips but such a small point that it didn’t deter us from enjoying our meal. Breakfast was fantastic the staff at breakfast during both stays were always extremely attentive, nothing was too much trouble. We cannot wait to stay again.

After spending a night away here two years ago we decided to save up for another night this week. The hotel is beautiful and was looking forward to a gorgeous night away in luxury. Unfortunately as wonderful as the room was, and the evening meal, we were made to feel very uncomfortable as if we didn’t belong in such an environment even when we have paid an enormous amount just as everyone else has. We walked into the bar for an afternoon drink after checking in and was soon accosted by a member of staff asking ‘are you ok in here?’ As if he thought we’d just walked in off the street. We had our drinks and not asked room number etc like couple in front (I’m assuming as it wasn’t even remotely possible we were staying here?) We had a lovely evening meal and were then joined by my partners mum and sister who had travelled to join us so that we could treat them for some drinks, then once their taxi arrived we went out to wave them off. We mentioned this to the bar staff so they knew where we were regarding our drinks and told by the waitress in front of all bar guests…. ‘Yes please come back, please don’t leave’. I beg your pardon???? In what world would that be something that would have been said to ANY other of these guests staying at the hotel. Absolutely furious and mortified. 2 years spent saving for one night….. Ruined. Gutted doesn’t even cover it. Such a shame.

A beautiful property, well managed with professional team members, great cocktails, wonderful food, sumptuous bedrooms and a very relaxing spa. We have never switched off like this before and with work commitments we aren’t seeing a-lot of each other, so it was good to spend some real quality time with my wife in stunning surroundings. We had the best sleep on the most comfiest mattress too. Afternoon tea was also excellent, and we simply could not find anything wrong. Well done to the whole team for delivering such a memorable experience Thank you

I had tried to feedback to management via email before resorting to tripadvisor, but after no acknowledgement in response to my concerns and hence assurance that we were just unlucky with our stay, here goes. I have also seen another review of a guest that didn’t have a particularly good stay, and tried to reach out to the hotel and did not have a response either. Hotel was nice, staff were polite, room was as described. It was our anniversary stay and a card in the room was a nice touch. But there were a few big cons; Before booking Boringdon Hall I had contacted reception to confirm they did have outdoor hot tubs, as this was a deciding factor when booking this or another spa hotel. It was confirmed yes they do, so we booked. When we had arrived it was apparent that their only outdoor hot tubs were closed. This was disappointing and would have been good to know prior to booking/arrival. I know it was March but other spa hotels do have outdoor hot tubs available for use at this time of year. Service in the restaurant was exceptionally slow, to the point of the waiters apologising to us without us saying anything. When our starters came they were cold. I was offered a free side dish, but we had already ordered everything we had wanted. The wait for dessert was soooo long, that we debated just leaving the table. Not sure why it was so slow as our table wasn’t booked until 8pm, it was almost 10pm by the time we actually got our desserts. The next morning, we experienced the same very slow service despite hardly any other guests in the restaurant. Not quite sure if we were unlucky both times or what the case was, certainly not what you’d expect for a restaurant of a 5* hotel… The food was lovely and of good quality but the wait in the restaurants, for both meals, made it quite a bad experience of eating here. Upon checkout, I asked for an itemised bill as it did seem a bit more expensive than we had expected! When I had looked, the drinks on the bill were more than what was advertised on the menus at the bar!!! This doesn’t seem right, fortunately I checked and the receptionist managed to sort it. Be careful if you stay here that you check your bill as I bet they have overcharged many people! A few changes and our stay would have been fantastic, but it was disappointing for our anniversary.

Sadly, this place has gone hugely downhill recently. Pros: Dinner was excellent and the service fantastic. All of the staff were polite and courteous. The room was extremely comfortable and well appointed Cons: The spa was a genuinely terrible experience. Hugely overcrowded and extremely dirty - we notice a plaster by the poolside when we arrived and it was still there when we left 2 days later!! It was certainly not the relaxing experience we were hoping for. Also, loads of the bubble machines were not working and many of the buttons to turn them on were missing. There was no prior communication on the £90 limit on the prepaid dinner included in the dinner and breakfast package. This limit was only brought to our attention when the bill was presented at the end of the evening. Had we been informed about this beforehand, we would have made different choices in our selection, ensuring that we stayed within the budget. Be warned!! Breakfast was terrible - the bacon was undercooked and all of the pastries stale. The most frustrating part of the whole visit, however, is the fact that after our stay I emailed Boringdon very politely thanking them for our stay and giving our feedback, so they could resolve these issues for future guests. However, five months later I haven’t even had a response to my email, let alone an apology for the issues that were outlined. Very disappointing from a place that we have had such positive experiences at precisely..

This is our 3rd stay within 4 months at Borringdon, we absolutely love this place. The staff here are wonderful and they give you the best experience from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. Every staff member we have spoken to has been very friendly and welcoming. We stay in the wellness rooms which are incredible and so convenient for the spa. The spa facilities are wonderful, our favourite bit is the outdoor hot tub area. I would 100% recommend borringdon hotel, we look forward to our 4th stay with them in the future.
