Residence Goelia le Domaine de Pont-Aven

Disappointing stay during September 2022 given the previous feedback & ratings. Although I was impressed by the reception and housekeeping staff who were approachable & friendly. Our main problem was that the door to our room was very difficult to open, there is a problem with the locking mechanism / door frame that we reported on day one but was never fixed. This aligns with a general lack of visible maintenance in the gardens. Otherwise; Good breakfast, although when busy they are clearly understaffed as tables were uncleared and key items of crockery, coffee cups, became unavailable. Location is good if you are fit enough to manage the uneven steps and subsequent climb back up, which thankfully we were. There was litttle atmosphere in the public areas and it all shuts at 21:30 and no restaurant on a Sunday. Pont Aven village is livlier.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the size of our '2-bedroom apartment': in fact, a substantial end-of-terrace house in a a newish development of 20 or more alongside the smartly-presented hotel; clean, comfortable and well-equipped. We didn't use any of the hotel facilities, and some of the rules for the house were rather complex, including an unnecessarily thorough inventory process. We appreciated the easy access (yes, steps a bit steep) to the lively town below; access by car is rather more convoluted. It's true that the gardens around the houses could have been better cared for, but it's still a pleasant environment. Overall recommended as a self-catering option in an attractive well-served location, with the reassurance of a hotel reception close by.
