Normal hotel for a 1-night transfer. Optimal value for money.
Not a very convenient time to leave (8 am).
You can while away the time in the anthropological museum located nearby. The museum opens at 9.30. There is also an information center for tourists nearby, but it is closed on weekends. Scooter rental down from the roundabout is 500 rubles per day. Currency exchange only at a private travel agency, quite far away. There you can also buy ferry tickets and book a hotel on the islands. There are ATMs nearby, but they only issue money to Indian cards. Foreign cards are not accepted. We tried Russian, Turkish and Union Pay, none of them worked. The view from the restaurant terrace is simply excellent.

Stepping into Hotel Shompen feels like pausing in the middle of a busy journey to catch your breath. It may not boast flashy luxury, but it offers a quiet, grounded space to rest after a day of exploring the city. The rooms are simple and comforting, serving as a reliable shelter for travelers on the move. You realize that sometimes, a modest and honest place is all you need to feel at home away from home. It leaves you with a quiet appreciation for simplicity and dependable hospitality.

Stayed at Hotel Shompen and honestly, it doesn’t deserve even 1 star. We booked a deluxe room for 4 people (2 adults + 2 kids), and the experience was terrible from the start. The room felt extremely suffocating and cramped. The washroom had a horrible foul smell—even though it looked clean, the odor was unbearable, like a public toilet. It was genuinely difficult to even use it. Basic amenities were missing—no toiletries like dental kits, and you had to call and request everything separately. The bedsheets and towels had stains, clearly not cleaned properly. The WiFi was completely useless—it didn’t connect even once. We entered the correct password multiple times, but it kept showing “network not available”. So basically, no WiFi despite what they claim. At their rooftop café (Andaman Kitchen). They added water bottles to our bill that we never took for Rs 70/- . When we pointed it out, they said the bill was already printed and couldn’t be changed, and instead tried to “compensate” by giving 2 Coke cans. This didn’t feel like a mistake—it felt completely intentional. For ₹3500, this place is absolutely not worth it. Poor hygiene, bad service, and shady billing practices. Would NOT recommend this hotel at all.

On our recent trip to Andaman, we had booked some other hotel much in advance before our trip, we were 3 adults and looking for either 2 rooms or one family room. Close to our travel date i was reviewing and most of the hotels did not have a good size family room and even if they had the extra adult was accommodated in the same room. Some hotels confirmed they wouldn't give a rolling bed but just an extra mattress. It was then when I came across Hotel Shompen and booked it instantly, the best part was their family room was of very good size and they provided 2 king beds, with privacy for one room, as good as 2 separate rooms with one washroom. Our stay was very comfortable, food quality, breakfast spread, hospitality, staff courtesy, communication, service was all good. Their roof top restaurant is very airy, and you can sit there and relax for hours. Both their restaurants are very relaxing with good ambience. The hotel is centrally located walkable to cellular jail through aberdeen market, annapurna veg restaurant, gol gappa and chaat points very close.

Just got back from Port Blair and Hotel Shompen was a perfect base for our Andaman trip. Location is unbeatable, close to airport, market and jetty. Andaman Kitchen served some really good food. The room was neat, cozy and well maintained. Staff was warm and helpful throughout our stay. Will definitely choose this hotel again next time!

A single staff is present at the hotel for housekeeping… when called over reception the staff said that as he is the only staff and he went for dinner so I have to wait … The reason for calling the staff is the light was not turning off and we have to visit Baratang 2 am in the middle of the night…

I have recently stayed at Hotel Shompen in Port Blair and had a wonderful experience. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the city - just a short walk to Aberdeen Bazaar, Cellular Jail, and other attractions. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-maintained, with all the modern amenities I needed. The staff were friendly and super helpful, always ready to assist with anything. The restaurant served a great variety of international cuisine, and the lounge bar had a chill vibe with nice cocktails. I also appreciated the free Wi-Fi and laundry services. Overall, great value for money - would definitely recommend Hotel Shompen for a relaxing Andaman getaway!

I welcomed the New Year 2026 at Hotel Shompen, South Andaman Island, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable celebrations I’ve ever experienced. From the moment we entered the hotel, the festive vibe was clearly visible. The entire property was beautifully decorated with lights, New Year props, and elegant seating arrangements. The staff greeted us warmly and ensured smooth entry and arrangements for all guests. The New Year’s Eve party was lively and well-organized. There was great music, a DJ who really understood the crowd, and a joyful atmosphere that kept everyone energetic till midnight. As the countdown began, the excitement in the air was unreal. Celebrating the New Year surrounded by the calm beauty of the Andaman Islands made the moment even more special. The food deserves a special mention. The buffet had a good variety of dishes, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-presented. The service staff was attentive and polite throughout the evening, making sure guests were comfortable and enjoying themselves. What I loved most was the location and ambiance. Being in South Andaman, away from city chaos, and celebrating New Year in such a peaceful yet festive environment felt truly refreshing. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and perfect for relaxing after a long night of celebration. Overall, my New Year 2026 experience at Hotel Shompen was fantastic. It’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to celebrate special occasions in Andaman with good hospitality, great vibes, and beautiful surroundings. I would definitely love to visit again.
