Nimrod Resort Apartments

I’m in 2 minds about writing this review. The resort managers were absolutely lovely, it is a family run business and I love that. The location is good and the facilities are great, beautiful pool and bbq area with plenty of seating. Our 2 bedroom unit was spacious and well fitted out with full size kitchen and laundry. But… The unit is tired and not in great condition. Tile falling off the wall in lounge area, couches stained, door to laundry fell off (hubby fixed) dust was really thick on the back of the headboard in bedrooms, I cleaned as I couldn’t cope with it! The kitchen utensils were so greasy and sticky they had to be washed before using or we just didn’t touch them. Mould throughout the shower and as it was black tiles and grout you really couldn’t be certain to the extent of mould and grime. The curlews (which I love) sit outside the screen doors during the night so there is bird poop all over the patio. We also had concerns about one of the scrub hens who seems to have a damaged leg, hopefully a wildlife cater can assess it? Normally I would have asked to change rooms, but we were so tired from our travels we just didn’t have the energy. I was planning on chatting with management on checkout but we must have left early as office was closed. There is also a lack of obvious rubbish disposal points, our bin was overflowing and we would have liked to empty it but couldn’t find a place to do so.

Hotel environment is very good, very quiet, room is large, kitchen, all kinds of supplies, washing machine and dryer, not far from the beach, suitable for self-driving travel. Go to Port Douglas and take the Silver Shuttle to the Great Barrier Reef, not far from the pier. There is also a Chinese restaurant in the Han Garden nearby.

Four Mile Beach
Our family of 5 visited in January 2023. Upon checking in we noticed a bit dated/aged feeling to the apartment (211) which was surprising considering the photos advertising like new amenities. When booking, a main consideration for our family is access to Wi-Fi, to communicate with family, stream movies for children etc; we we’re unapologetically informed that after our booking was made, Wi-Fi is no longer available at the venue. (At the time of writing this review, TripAdvisor still lists the location as having Wi-Fi). This was a most disappointing factor of our stay here, as we felt falsely advertised to and likely wouldn’t have booked a stay here without the Wi-Fi. On the plus side, the location has a newly renovated pool which our children spent much time in. The beach is a stone’s throw from the property and we found the city of Port Douglas to be laid back and charming. Overall. this location would benefit from renovation as there was a lot of rust and unclean/broken items in the apartment. While the proximity to the beach of this location is the highlight, there are several areas which could be improved to make a stay here seem more of what we expect when vacationing.

Four Mile Beach
Small Boutique resort. This is a great place to stay if you are with a family, especially if you don't want to go out for meals too much, as the self contained apartment with fully appointed kitchen is great. We had a nice roomy balcony with a view of the pool and palms. The poolside BBQ area is also fabulously well equipped including good BBQ, sink, plates & utensils, washing-up equipment. There's a really nice and clean toilet nearby the pool as well. They have some shelves with books to borrow at your leisure. It's only a short walk to the main street (5-10min). Downsides are: the pool is only a large ”back-yard” size, however you're very close to the beach (2 minute walk); when we were there the wifi was only fair (in and out) but Olivia said she would get someone to see to it for future visits. The desk is not always manned. All in all we really enjoyed it. Thanks Al & Olivia.

Good health, bring children to add money, there is a swimming pool, but some are small, because there are not many people, it is enough; the front desk service is good, the travel advice is very useful; breakfast is delivered to the room, before 5 o'clock in the evening before the election Well, the amount is still relatively large; sitting at the door of the door at night to eat a little late at night feels good!
Port Douglas Sands Resort

First of all accommodation is next to impossible to find in Port Douglas and much more expensive than other holiday locations in Australia. I had been searching for weeks for availability and eventually had to settle for this accommodation. At nearly $3000 for 8 days I thought it would be ok. Firstly it's not really a resort. It strikes me as a residential complex with some apartments available to rent. The place is generally quite run down and grotty. Our apartment was ok but small and just had one aircon unit in the main area. The flat had minimal kitchen equipment and the bathroom was very old, worn, and a bit dirty. We did have cockroach visits every night but I think they are very common in QL. The beds were on wheels and rolled around the minute you touched them! We also had no clothes airing rack for towels and the washing machine was old and filthy. Turned all our whites grey! Also, we never managed to track down this advertised 'free breakfast' there wasn't any breakfast on offer when we stayed. The complex is sandwiched between two roads, and the beach is accessible only by the busy main road. A shuttle bus runs into town regularly. The parking was a nightmare. We couldn't park in our designated spot so we had to constantly try and find somewhere secure to park and ended up with notes on our windscreen when we parked in the wrong spot. The manager even told us to get out of his spot at one point! Pros: Small pool is safe and well maintained Staff are nice and very friendly Kitchen was relatively new Towel and bedding change if you stay 8 days Lots of towels available Cons: Main road to beach Need to drive to town Grubby and a bit run down Bathroom very run down Not a resort Parking an issue Split system in one room only Expensive for what it was
