Excellent meal at reasonable price. The portions were generous, the food was delicious and the service was prompt. The beer was also good. This dog friendly pub looked uninspiring from the outside but most definitely exceeded all our expectations!

A great time away! The Crown was welcoming, cosy and spotlessly clean. The staff were all fantastic! Wonderful fire burning. The bar is full of character on what was a very busy Saturday afternoon, and provides a lovely cosy atmosphere. We had dinner at the hotel and it was faultless. Fresh decent produce. The breakfast was plentiful and ample choices available too.

Excellent stop before the ferry. Good bar and great restaurant. I would recommend to anyone having to go to Cairnryan and it’s a far nicer place than Stranraer to spend time walking along the seafront or popping into one of the many bars and cafes.

Booked this ‘hotel’ through *********** on Monday 8th January 2024, seven days in advance of a 15th January check-in. It was booked primarily as it was advertised as ‘dog-friendly’; however, being wary of ***********, thought I had better check direct with the establishment. Five unanswered e-mails later, I telephoned on 11th January, only to be told by ‘Tony’ that, actually, they only have two rooms that are dog friendly, and the one allocated to me wasn’t one of them. I was told to cancel on *********** and book directly through the hotel website. I actually booked it over the phone with Tony who, to his credit, said he would do a bit of room jiggery-pokery and it would be OK. On arrival, I advised that I hadn’t brought the dog (or the wife for that matter, although they may join me the following day). I was shown to my ‘dog-friendly’ room, which was at the very top of the building accessed by narrow, steep stairs; not exactly ‘dog-friendly’ with a dog the size of mine (if he had been there), but a minor point I admit. The room itself. Well, basic, to say the least. Initial impressions were ‘OK’; however, on closer examination several flaws were evident. There are wall lights positioned above the bed, but no obvious switch to operate them! Eventually, after hunting for them, they were found hidden behind the headboard and all but inaccessible – it took a bit of manual dexterity to manoeuvre my quite large hands behind the headboard to switch them on and off, meaning that it was virtually impossible to switch them off at night without almost getting out of bed to do so. It rather defeats the purpose of having ‘bedside’ lights; very awkward. Also, it would have been helpful to have been told where the switches were when shown to the room, rather than having to indulge in an otherwise unnecessary mystery search! Also, the vertical blinds on the main facing window were inoperative and stuck in the open position. Am I to sleep with the blinds open? I had to manually wrestle with the mechanism to close them. I shouldn’t have to do that, and the faulty mechanism must have been known to the management. There is also no blind on the bathroom Velux. Now, you are some considerable distance from adjacent properties, but in theory anyone so minded in these properties could conceivably see you walking about naked in the bathroom. Further exploration revealed a filthy duvet crushed into a gap in the built-in wardrobe. Poor. The television is cheap and gives the impression of being about the size of an A4 piece of paper, it’s tiny. The wi-fi is so poor that the reception is patchy and so pixelated (watching BBC Northern Ireland, incidentally) that I gave up and switched off. Useless. The remote had a mind of its own as well, and I had to virtually insert the remote into the television to get any response. The wi-fi is BT ‘free’, which continuously cuts out after even the briefest inactivity meaning you will be constantly reconnecting whatever devi

Went into Crown Hotel for lunch with my husband. Really disappointed We both ordered fish & chips & it wasn’t cheap! Chips were the only decent thing on the plate - fish was small, overcooked & didn’t taste fresh at all. I couldn’t eat mine as it tasted off. Tried to find someone to inform them but staff didn’t seem interested at all. Such a shame as the food here used to be fantastic with people travelling long distances for the fresh seafood. We won’t be back.

Popped in for lunch on a day trip out. Very cosy atmospheric bar / eating area. Very friendly staff. Had the Cullen skink starter and it was amazing, even my wife, who is a fussy eater enjoyed it. The two fish mains did not let the standards down at all and were equally delicious. What a pleasure to eat in such a lovely place on a cold January day

We popped in to the Crown Hotel in Portpatrick after seeing the dog friendly notice on the door. What a great choice we made. So welcoming, a lovely real coal fire, fantastic clientele and staff made for a great atmosphere all round. We had a lovely table in the corner of the bar, where our Golden Retriever sat quietly on the floor. There were lots of other well behaved dogs inside, so he could chat to them all at some point. We had a big bowl of Cullen Skink and a Chicken Broth soup. Both were delicious and piping hot. A really beautiful venue, overlooking the harbour. A credit to the owners and management. Can’t wait to go back.

Just about acceptable, for the money paid, prices far too high. We stayed two nights. The room was clean and warm, that is a plus for any victorian hotel in scarborough. Shabby in places, but others i have stayed in were absolutely disgusting, so acceptable is not disgusting. There was at least no bed bugs or spiders unlike others i stayed in, on the North Bay .Cold water was very difficult to get via the tap in the room we stayed in. Food was ok, high prices, we went out the second night to an Indian, which was gorgeous. Indian Taj restaurant. The breakfast the second day was inedible, i am vegetarian and the sausages the second morning were not in my opinion vege, the mushrooms i spat out, it was disgusting, the first day breakfast was fine. How can standards change so much in a day ? the first day all staff were very polite, Monday morning they looked like they had just got out of bed after a night on the piss. Will i return, NO. Go to the premier inn if you want higher standards and value for money, i wish i had.
