Hotel Lo Smeraldo
4/520 Reviews
Located about three km from Cisternino, this hotel has a rich story behind its backs that sees two families involved in the local who passionately made this jewelry. The hotel is located in the city centre, where you can enjoy a drink or coffee and the reception is welcomed by Gianni, Nicola, Tina, Vanessa with a smile and gentleness to meet the needs of your clients or give advice. There are two windows with local craftsmen of wines and tarals, two lifts are to the floors. There are terraces with a wonderful landscape from the hotel, and you can see the coast and the valley of Itria. The hotel has a spacious and spacious airport, and the warmth of a family for unforgettable holidays.

I booked this place as a short 4 day get-away, and must say it exceeded all my expectations. Excellent location for sightseeing trips to Puglias' fantastic sites, beautiful farm location surrounded by olive trees, a large and clean room (#13) with daily fresh towels, fabulous swimming pool, yummy breakfast (fried eggs on request, fresh and toasted bread, cakes, fruits, cheese, ham, yogurt, cereals, etc. and tasty coffee). Loved the gardens and the tasty glasses of wine I got served there in the evenings. Particular a big thank you to Anna serving a ”Covid-save” breakfast, she made me laugh in the mornings, and to the kind gentleman making the coffees. Overall, a very relaxing stay indeed and I can only recommend this place. Just as a note, make sure you have the directions to the place with you, as my car GPS did not find the location.... Also bring your own shampoo, I was not so keen on the one provided. Check-out was a little chaotic and took a long time as I did not have cash for the Tax as apparently required in Italy, I also had to explain several times that I will not pay tax for two people, even though staying in a double room, as I was travelling alone. Other staff at reception though had been lovely before. I hope you will enjoy your stay as I did.

Just recently, one person of our company came here for a meeting with friends of his, for a one-week mixture of relax and scientific conversations focused on various facets of risk management and artificial intelligence. The location is simply wonderful, a charming swimming pool welcomes you in sunny days and a spacious and warmly lighted conference room hosts guests during meetings. Our family member happened to be involved in the organization of the event and he quickly established a very good relationship with the manager, while receiving very good support for the requests put forward by the organizing committee for hosts with special needs, from food restrictions to supplemental equipment needed for video streaming of Zoom presentations. The rooms a cozy, spacious and clean, from the classic ones to the suites. The buildings are characterized by the typical rural style of the area and are very well maintained. The manager speaks quite a few languages. The staff is way less skilled with English. However, Italians are known for being very forthcoming and communicative, so they make up for the lack of language skills with their kindness. Highly recommended.

Overall really enjoyed my trip here but a few major problems that were headaches. If the resort is able to address some of these it could be a truly amazing place. Pros: -Absolutely beautiful location with awesome beach and nice area to walk on either side. Multiple pools that were really nice as well (though I spent more time on the beach) -Very nice clean comfortable rooms -Yummy food with lots of options -Very close to the beach, the people complaining about the distance to the beach are insane it is a 3-5 minute walk or you can take the train if you really want. There is also a bar/coffee/washroom at the beach! Cons: -One very big problem, I have a nut allergy and it was extremely hard to navigate that here. Before travelling to Italy I had an Italian friend write out a card explaining that I have a nut allergy (because I don't ever want to go somewhere and expect people to speak my language) but only 1 of the servers cared about this. I reminded wait staff at every meal that I had the allergy but have several incidents where I was served a dish that contained nuts with 5 minutes of asked and receiving assurance there was no nuts. I had to argue with the staff several times asking them to please check that the dish was nut free (on 3 occasions it was not), this was very embarrassing and I don't ever want to be this person! -The ”Aqua Gym” group are very aggressive, if you are down at the beach you are not just encouraged to join whatever activity they are running, they will approach you multiple times/hour again and again, I started leaving the beach when they were coming to avoid harassment -As others have noted staff at the front desk are very rude, I thought this may have been a language barrier (fair enough my Italian is terrible) but I met a group of Italian guests while there that also complained about how rude they were. They were completely unwilling to help guide you at all or answer questions. -Wifi does not work in rooms, this was not very important to me but something to note -You are charged for a towel which seemed very odd to me (just to borrow a towel not to take or anything)

To start I want to make it clear that the staff were very friendly & helpful, and I am not commenting on the rooms in the main hotel as I did not see them. This review refers to the 'country' rooms and the pool. We arrived in your hotel as agreed on the evening of September 30th and were shown to the smallest hotel room I have experienced (14). It had a shared ‘patio’ and no windows…..plus the safe was locked, not that that mattered as it wasn’t attached to anything so anyone could have walked out with it. The bathroom was perfect for a slim person but being a little portly, it was a challenge. A genuinely large person would not have been able to get into the bathroom!! at all. It was tiny and not comfortable to use. The decorations were fine and the room was clean. To say that it was small was an understatement. I had to go outside to change my mind!! We immediately complained and the next day we were moved to a larger non-refurbished room (5). Whilst larger it was unmodernised and still had no windows. The room was in poor condition with cheap furniture and a separate bed in the ‘entry room’ that was not exactly clean. There is no way that this was 4* accommodation. It reminded me of the Australian soap called Prisoner Cell Block H (we immediately christened the room as such!!). It was like a cheap motel and warranted 2* at best. Like I said, I am commenting on the 'country' rooms only. Breakfast was very basic and the 'chef' seemed genuinely shocked that someone might want an omelette. The coffee was awful but the bottled fruit juices were a nice touch. The final issue was that when my wife enquired about pool towels, she was told that they would be €10.00 per towel and that if we wanted to change it when dirty we would need to pay another €10.00. Bearing in mind that the plastic beds by the pool were filthy, this would have been cost of €20.00 per day. The pool itself was okay but you had to wear a swimming cap to use it...which of course they charged for!!! I have never stayed in a hotel where you were charged for a pool towel and this should certainly not be the case in a 4* hotel. This was denied by the hotel after we walked out but my wife absolutely validated the information. In addition, the wifi was utterly useless, even in the main building. We left on Saturday Sept 2nd as we had simply had enough of staying in the 'country' rooms, which did not meet 4* standards in any way.
