From outside nothing ostentatious in this discrete small hotel in an old building of Verone. You would never guess such a charming place and warm welcome. The hotel has a very traditional charm and decoration with hundreds of paintings, plates and other stuff hanging from the wall. The breakfast room is just outstanding and at the mid floor of the hotel you find a wonderful small winter garden full with plants and flowers in which there is a cage with two budgies called “Roméo and Juliet”. We fell in love with Roméo who was constantly whistling at us to call us or to answer to our own whistling. Wonderfully located in the centre of Verone, you can walk easily to every point of touristic interest. As every coin has two sides, it is not very easy to reach the hotel by car as “waze” is not very familiar with the pedestrian area. Fortunately, when we were completely lost, we called the hotel and a valet walked to us and drove us to the hotel; what a nice attention! The bedroom is incredibly charming and comfortable with its subdued light to avoid the big external temperature. You can even completely stop the air-conditioning if you don’t like. Last but not least, the hotel staff is very kind and attentive to your smallest wish. A little bit expensive but a weekend at the Gabbia d’Oro is really a fantastic experience that is worth the price

The location of this hotel is good and the pool is nice. Be aware most of the sun beds are in the shade from midday onwards. It was heated to 28 degrees which seemed crazy. The reason for 3* is the low quality of the room. For £200+ a night we have stayed in beautiful hotels in Lisbon and Ljubljana recently for example. This was so basic. It was meant to be a superior room. The walls were completely bare (see pics). There were no tea/coffee making facilities. The TV was tiny and had just one English Channel (Sky news). The walls were so thin I could hear our neighbour snoring every night and the restaurant on the floor above prepping the breakfast from 7am each day. There is a fridge in the room with a bottle of sparkling and still water which gets replaced each day. The fridge makes noises on and off through the night and there’s a flashing LED on the smoke alarm directly above the bed. The hairdryer was tiny and hopeless. The air con worked well and the bathroom was nice. There was free shampoo and conditioner but no body lotion. That’s about all I could say for the room. Often on reviews like this there is a reply asking why this wasn’t brought to staff’s attention at the time. On check in we immediately asked if we could pay to upgrade our room as we weren’t happy with it and were told the hotel was fully booked. The original room we were given smelled of cigarettes so we were given one two doors away which was the same without the smoke. Once they cleared the flies and we checked in later it was ok. Breakfast and service / bar staff were lovely. My husband drank their bottle of Disaronno dry and we were surprised they didn’t have another still a day later - weird thing to run out of in Italy. Reception staff weren’t helpful. We asked about bus services - they just said to go and have a look at the tourist info place without really indicating where it was. I asked if there was a strike the next day as I’d seen something about a public transport strike. They looked a bit blank and clearly googled it and then said oh yes, it’s on strike tomorrow. They confirmed it would also affect the boats but they turned out to be running fine the next day! Pre arrival we arranged return transfers to Verona airport through the hotel at 70 EUR each way and they were excellent. Overall the hotel didn’t feel worth the money.

Ich komme öfters nach Peschiera jedoch dieses Mal war ich sehr enttäuscht.Da ich normal immer im Hotel Dori schlafe und dieses Mal alles besetzt war hat man mich mit meinem Einverständnis in diesem Hotel umgebucht. Es war schrecklich der Typ an der reception sollte lieber den Beruf Wechsel so etwas von unhöflich und arrogant ist mir noch nie begegnet. Ok ist ja kein Problem wenn die Zimmer noch nicht fertig waren da es ein Problem mit der Wäsche gegeben hat kann ja mal passieren jedoch seine Antworten auf fragen war sehr unerhörte!! Wir hatten gefragt ob wir etwas trinken können da wir ja warten mussten und wir waren 8 Personen hat er ein Gesicht gemacht so wie „ja wenn’s sein muss „ und da die Zimmermädchen ja eigentlich nicht einmal noch in unseren Zimmer angefangen haben zu putzen (abgekommen um 14.101 dachte ich schon das eigentlich die Getränke nicht verrechnet werden!!!! Es kann ja mal passieren das etwas schief geht jedoch man kann auch dabei freundlich bleiben ! Jedoch würge ich den Herrn austauschen!!!!

I booked this hotel due to its good reviews and proximity to the train station. While it was convenient for the station, I was left very disappointed by the hotel for a few reasons: - The check in process took half an hour due to initially being assigned a room (and given a key) that belonged to someone else. I walked into a room full of someone else’s belongings - luckily no one was in there at the time. I do appreciate that the reception staff offered me a free drink at the bar by way of apology - The wifi did not work. The reception staff were not able to resolve the issue and there were other customers at reception with the same issue as me - The room was spacious and modern, but I had a very poor night’s sleep due to the awful road noise (my windows were closed, but totally not sound roof) and mediocre bed comfort - The breakfast process is simply appalling. The worst I have ever experience. You must book a slot at a given hour - I selected 8am - and when you turn up it is a buffet breakfast which is served to you from behind plastic screens. I assume this is intended for covid-security. However, it is much worse than a normal buffet as everyone crowds in one large queue. We had a recent stay at this hotel for five days. The hotel it’s self is lovely, clean rooms, friendly reception and a good breakfast. We found their was a choice of croissants, toast,bacon, pastries, yoghurts, pancakes, fruit and more. The room was tidied daily and had a fridge. The downside was that it advertises a free shuttle bus but what you don’t realise is they will only drop you off into Verona at certain times. We asked one afternoon around 4pm if we could get the shuttle into Verona and there response was 6:30pm (this was the usual time they suggested) I said is there anything earlier if possible? He said erm maybe 5pm. They did take us into town at 5pm which was good, however it felt a bit like they didn’t want to. Also the mini bus only fits around 8 people so you MUST book it in advance as it fills up and you usually wait a hour for the next one. I’d suggest get used to the buses as the train station/ bus station was around a 20min walk but sometimes this was too hot in the heat. You can jump on a bus down the road from the hotel to get around. We did this a few times from Verona, but the bus ignored our stop when we pressed the button and we ended up walking from quite far away. Overall if you are wanting to save a bit of money in comparison to a hotel in the city, this is a good choice clean, tidy and good breakfast! Just bare In mind getting around and using local transport.

What a lovely place to stay when you're visiting Verona. The view over the city is jaw-droppingly beautiful, the pool is lovely and the staff delightful. The website maintains that merely snacks are available all day, but we had beautiful pasta with full white table cloth service two of the evenings we stayed there. The building had been a nunnery but the refit is exquisite and there's just ten rooms, so it always seemed quiet. We used both the daily service shuttle to get into town and we did the 15 minute walk downhill to get there. A bit steep for us to walk back up, a taxi cost about 12 Euros. If we get back to Verona, we'll also be back to the Relais Fra'Lorenzo

We spend one evening in Verona and had a lovely stay at Le Suite di Giulietta. The room is spacious, comfortable and has a nice sized with all amenities bathroom. The location is unbeatable, just off of Pizza delle Erbe and you can actually see the balcony of Giulietta from your own balcony! The host is lovely, very responsive and helpful. Due to covid we couldn't have breakfast in the common area so they gave us a complimentary voucher for a delicious bakery just down the road. Very recommended!
