Best Hotels in Puerto Calero

We stayed here for 5 nights mid-February in a sea view superior room on an all inclusive basis. Whilst the sea is a fair distance away the room itself was spacious, newly decorated and the clothes cupboard had loads of hanging space. The room cleaning was excellent and the staff very helpful in all areas (other than the chefs in the show cooking station in the evening who, on a couple of evenings, seemed to deliberately avoid eye contact leaving you standing there). As part of the AI offer it included one visit to the spa which left us a bit underwhelmed. It was not as good as the H10 hotels spa we had been at a couple of months before so we certainly did not pay for any further visits. There were several activities on offer throughout the day which, although we did not go to any, seemed popular and mostly fairly well supported. We did feel the nightly entertainment held in the Mataleñas Bar was good every night and the drinks on offer at the bar were all top quality. The food was buffet and at breakfast had all options with a good egg station serving fried eggs and omelets to order. Lunch was served at a different restaurant near the main pool and had various salad options, pizzas and some cooked meats and fish. The wine here was really poor so after a couple of days we stuck to soft drinks or beer. The evening buffet was back in the main restaurant and was OK but after two or three days was getting repetitive. We spoke to someone else who said if they were to come again would opt for B&B and visit the restaurants overlooking the marina for their evening meals. The wines included in the basic AI were generally not very good (of the three we tried anyway) and when we were drinking our wine on the second evening someone on a nearby table said I can see you are not enjoying that. He said that he had tried several of the included wines and had found that the best wine was ANALIVIA VERDEJO BLANC. We tried it and it was certainly drinkable and did not risk trying any of the other wines again! The grounds are extensive and there are sun loungers by the pools and dotted throughout the grounds so if you want privacy you will definitely find some loungers in quite secluded areas. The pools are large and despite what it said on the info the pool by the diving school was not heated and despite braving it and getting in was too cool for me to enjoy swimming in. The other pool (two lanes roped off for people to do lengths in) was lightly heated and once you were in was nice. We had been to Lanzarote before and had done trips that covered most of the sights and did not see anything on offer that inspired us. We did however catch the water taxi from the marina to Puerto del Carmen which took just under 20 minutes and was a fun trip. A return ticket was around €16 and if you caught the first trip out you could stay there from 2 to 8 hours if you wanted to catch the water taxi back. This hotel is in a lovely quiet location. It has great amenities including several pools and restaurants. The best thing is the staff who are fantastic, friendly and very helpful. Food is good but not great. We felt they would benefit from including daily specials to boost variety. It’s worth upgrading to Preferred for the access to private pool area and restaurants. One strange thing is that despite being adults only most of the pool areas are very shallow so not suitable for swimming. We would recommend eating at the sushi bar Gotham. The chef is brilliant, very charismatic and makes some fantastic sushi. Our trip went well for 8 days but then the hotel was invaded by a massive group of Americans on a corporate reward group. This turned a hotel that was supposed to be romantic and for couples into a noisy, shindig. The noise levels increased with the alcohol consumption from late afternoon until late night. It was a very disappointing end to what had been a lovely holiday. Surely a hotel that advertises it is for couples should not be offering mass corporate stays.

I would like there to be a rating between AVERAGE and VERY GOOD, and this hotel was above average, and below very good - there needs to be a GOOD rating- but this is trip advisors fault not the hotels! I stayed with a friend, in a junior suite 2-9th June 2023. Let’s start with the room. We arrived around midday and our room was ready – hurrah- super friendly, knowledgeable receptionist checked us in, gave us a load of info and a map and off we went! The excitement turned into a little bit of disappointment when we realised that instead of the 2 single beds pushed together, as depicted in every single solitary photo of a junior suite, it was one double bed – not ideal for friends holidaying together. The shower was VAST – very impressive but it was let down by the grout on the floor of the bathroom which was grubby and could do with replacing. The room itself was clean, big, and bed comfortable, with air con, tea/coffee making facilities and a fridge. Cleaned daily (except cups etc which were randomly not) – by exceptionally friendly cleaning staff. We had an issue with the bathroom on the first night, whereby we created a paddling pool in the shower room due to a blocked drain! -Quick trip to reception and super friendly Mr fix it man was with us in 5 minutes, fixing the issue, which never reoccurred. The restaurant had a fab selection of differing foods, always something to suit all tastes, and a chef always cooking you up something – eggs/omelettes/fresh fish/chicken etc. Mountains of fresh salad, fruit and bread – and snacks pretty much all day! Restaurant staff were all amazingly polite, friendly, and attentive. Bars were what you would expect of a 3*, local wine, spirits, premade cocktails, and once again amazingly polite, friendly, attentive staff. The pool was lovely and warm, with nice views looking down to the sea – never had an issue with getting a sunbed, but there is limited space around the pool area. I believe the other side of Flora is much quieter if you don’t like 4000 inflatables, and their young owner’s noise. The hotel is on a hill…… very pleasant stroll down, under 3 euro in a taxi back – not an issue at all. With a taxi rank just outside the hotel getting back to the airport was nice and easy to (approx. 20 euro). There was only one real thing that let this hotel down, the entertainment- whilst some of the live music acts were great the male half of the entertainment team (which consists of 2 people), really did not have his mind on the job at all. If you are going to work in entertainment you need to be enthusiastic 24/7, with both adults and kids, or they will lose interest fast. Which I witnessed on several occasions. Don’t put out water polo nets and walk away to chat to another member of staff, not even asking if anyone wants to play, don’t do 1 song at the mini disco, not engage the kids(more than once), and again walk away to chat to more staff members, don’t roll your eyes when someone asks you to repeat a qui

Located in a good place, around a lot of diverse restaurants and restaurants, nearly interesting beautiful beach Playa Chica Good breakfast terrace (pizza, warmed in a tea-to-be with tea and beautiful sea-ocean view) The kitchen corner of the common use is equipped with all necessary - refrigerator, HC, teapot, capsule coffee-car (true without capsules) The main shortcoming of course is the lack of toilet and shower in the room, they are common for several (a little) rooms. No queue At the same time, the washing machine is in the room (at least in my) It will be perfect for you to stay before you leave.

We are here at the minute. Avoid this place, the rooms are shabby and dirty despite ours supposedly being a superior one. We have a variety of insects sharing with us, including cockroaches etc. The cleaner left some spray but that to me just means they know the place is infested. The gardens are the only thing that is well kept, if only so much effort went into the rooms. There is a smell coming from under the sink where the bins are kept that is indescribable even after the bins are emptied. The kitchen equipment is basic, please don’t expect to actually be able to do much self catering! The reception staff are rude and surely and make sure if you ask them something that you know you are a nuisance. One particular receptionist told a guest to shut up until she had finished what she was doing on the computer without even looking up. TUI coach transport dropped us at the bottom of a hill and told us to walk up with our cases, had we known those we wouldn’t have booked due to health concerns. This led to a member of our party becoming unwell. We knew the hotel was on a hill and accepted we would use taxis to get about but had no idea the level of service provided to transport us to the hotel would be so shoddy. TUI has agreed to fund a taxi to take us back to the airport and offered us a £100 good will gesture with a very much take it or leave it attitude . I have never had such an appalling experience when booking with TUI. We knew the place was a 3 star accommodation , and have happily stayed in 3 star before with TUI and had no complaints. Its the dirt we didn’t expect. Not expected of TUI at all. As said avoid at all costs.
