Citystate Asturias Hotel Palawan

This place is obviously still struggling from the effects of the Covid lockdowns. The staff is the best part of this place. The air conditioner is undersized & has a daylight gap all around it. The room refrigerator is worthless because its electric circuit shuts down when you leave the room. Who wants to come back from a trip & grab a warm drink from the ref? Breakfast buffet is pretty slim. They post signage asking you to conserve water, but they don't even include water saving faucets or shower heads. And then there were the bugs. If I had known that they are offering 'Hourly Rates' I would have avoided this place.

Great service. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Delicious breakfast. Beautiful hotel and the view from it. It's very quiet around except for the roosters singing all the time which makes it more atmospheric. The hotel is a bit far from everything but it's not a problem if you can ride a motorbike which you can rent at the reception desk. If we come back to Puerto-Princesa we will definitely stay in this hotel again!

Really nice place. Staff was very friendly. This was a last minute stay because we had missed a connecting flight to El Nido and had to reroute through Puerto Princessa to travel to El Nido the next day. Good breakfast, comfortable bed, nice hot water. Would be happy to spend a longer time there.
Balai Princesa

We are checking out today after 4 nights here at Balai Princesa and every minute of our stay has been wonderful. Our whole family felt like this has been our home away from home. From the moment we had been greeted at the airport and brought here, every single member of their staff had made sure we are comfortable and made everything convenient for us. We sometimes feel like we’re long lost friends and family. I usually mention a few special members of the staff who have shown exceptional customer service, but for Balai Princesa literally every member of the staff has been exceptional: everyone from reception, F&B, housekeeping, and the spa. If I mention all their names, I would probably not have enough space left on this post. And my usual detailed breakdown is below: Room: spacious and very clean. The hotel had only opened in Jan2019 so it still feels new. The aircon is can be adjusted to your preferred temperature and you can choose to always come home to a cold room to relieve you of the heat and humidity outside. There is no tv in the room, but if you have a mobile device, then wifi is strong enough for you to watch Netflix before you go to sleep :) Bed: moderately firm mattress and pillows, just the way we like it. We had a goodnight sleep every time. Food: top-notch. Every single item on the menu that we tried had been delicious. Facilities: There are two jacuzzi tubs at the back for you to relax and while away time on a quiet early evening before heading to dinner. Then before heading off to bed, try the signature massage their spa and all those tight and sore muscles from walking and swimming will be relieved. Service: We could be singing high praises even long after we’ve left Balai Princesa. We’re a family of seasoned travelers and we all agree that their customer service is one of the best that we have ever experienced. They are really at the top of the charts. Over-all: Every traveler has their own style. If you are a traveler who prefers to stay downtown and within walking distance of shopping malls and the main street, then maybe this isn’t the place for you. For those who are looking for quiet and comfort and relaxation, stay here in Balai Princesa. You are guaranteed to feel refreshed and rejuvenated after your stay...and if ever you’re returning to Puerto Princesa, you’re surely going to want to come home to Balai Princesa again.
Princesa Garden Island Resort and Spa

This is supposedly the only 5 star resort in the area which is sad as I think competition might actually inspire them to do better. The place itself is very nice and initial impressions are quite excellent. But the longer we stayed the more we noticed the lack of upkeep in the rooms. The size of the bathroom is big but there is not a single electrical outlet inside so you cannot plug in anything not even the hairdryer. The shower glass door does not close shut and with the very strong water pressure you can be assured of a very wet overflowing floor outside of the shower enclosure. We paid for 2 extra persons in the room which they informed us meant sharing the beds and breakfast inclusive but they don’t automatically provide the extra towels. Even after calling them to request for more towels they still took more than 2 days to give us our extra towels. The water in the pool is quite warm and not refreshing as the heat of the sun kept it quite warm but some of our friends actually liked it that way so it’s more of a personal preference. The drying rack in the balcony is a nice touch as we can dry our swim clothes there. There are also water dispensers in the hallway which is great for refilling the complimentary glass bottles of water provided. Buffet breakfast is included in the room rates but don’t expect anything extraordinary. The Italian restaurant in the resort does not seem to be ready for the tourist influx as food came out ever so slowly and we felt bad for the foreign tourists who don’t complain as much as the locals so we did get our food faster than they did. The resort is expanding so there is construction ongoing which is a positive sign of tourist revival in PP which I’m happy about for them but I wish they would also pay closer attention to the upkeep of the existing rooms.
