GHL Hotel Lago Titicaca

Hotel Lago Titicaca needs some serious renovations to claim they are a 5 star hotel. Service at the front desk was not too friendly and the restaurant seemed to follow behind which might require looking at the entire team. They have a property that is capable of being truly remarkable but ownership and management just don’t know how to make that happen. Very sad.

I do not like leaving negative comments. But this hotel does not qualify for the 5 stars shown on the hotel plaque nor is it the 4-star hotel as listed by our travel agency. It is a 3-star facility and not even at the top of this rank... The lounge and bar are nice and well-kept. The restaurant food is ok but not spectacular. The lake view is nice though not from every room. The rooms seem to have been waiting for major renovation for years and years... We arrived with the PeruRail train from Cusco - together with about 10 other couples, just like us most of them individual travelers. The front desk could not cope with this "rush" and room assignment took some time. Our "prime sunset room" was small and unpretentious, i.e. plain, old-fashioned style, worn furniture, a bathroom with a scratched door, a tub with a plastic curtain (reminding me of cheap US chain hotels in the 80ies) that did not prevent the flooding of floor and toilet seat when taking a shower. There was a stain on the linen. And we had a problem with the room temperature. The display on the wall showed 27°C and we tried in vain to switch the temperature to 18°C for the night. When contacting the reception desk we were told that the rooms had no A/C but heating only. Their advice was to open the big panorama window... "Don't worry. There is no insects at Puno." We opened it during our absence for dinner but had to close it for the night. And the temperature was still high... To be fair I would like to add that the staff was nice. But the hotel itself was a real disappointment. I wonder how they got so many top evaluations in December 2023 from people who had never before evaluated any other hotel...

After arriving in Puno after a full day of car travel, we were anxious to settle in and relax. The hotel boasts spectacular views, friendly staff, above average rooms, and a great restaurant and bar. The BIG disappointment and continued bewilderment are the rooms have NO Air Conditioning. As we entered our spacious king room, it was way too warm. When we inquired, the staff promptly brought us a fan. However, slepping in warm temperatures is challenging at best. The fan simply blew the warm air. The INTERESTING fact is that the lobby and bar area did have air-conditioned air. The company line is that the aforementioned did not have A/C (False). While in the lobby/bar, I felt vents blowing cooled air. This was our only disappointment and frankly hate to be lied to... otherwise, a nice property, situated on the island in the middle of the lake.

The fact that the hotel is on a private island, gives you the true meaning of safety. Their staff are extremely cordial and professional. The room we were given faced the famous lake Titicaca. The sunrise is spectacular with colors we have not seen before. The room was very nice size to fit a king size bed. The bathroom was normal size, but very clean. The breakfast spread is fantastic, with made to order eggs. Fruit juices were fresh, as well as their food, particularly their bread. The restaurant staff were very attentive, specially Hugo the supervisor. Who seem to always be there from day to night. Special request were always met. We were a group of 14 Chinese friends who liked hot water, sometimes with lemon and honey, which was not a problem at all. Meals were well presented and tasted delicious. One waiter that stood out was Jorge, who always had a great smile, filling our coffees and teas regularly. There are trails throughout the property, where you can see all kinds of wild animals. The view from the terrace was awesome, both looking at the city and the lake. Be sure to wake up early for the beautiful sunrise. We did not get to use the hot tub, because it was too small and would have loved to see a swimming pool. Otherwise, this is an excellent hotel.

Service was really great and the staff were very courteous and accommodating. The view was beautiful. Our waiters named Victor and Johann were delightful. Their recommendations were spot on. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This hotel was by far the best place to stay in Puno. Every need we had was meet with kindness and speed. Want to point out a specific employee, “Hugo” who worked in the restaurant. He made our meal special. The next day he recognized us, remembered our order, and brought us to-go coffee without even asking. High praise to Hugo for great customer service.

This is a place you don’t want to miss. The location couldn’t be better if you like to wake up to a breathtaking view of the sun coming up over the horizon and reflecting on Lake Titicaca. All the rooms face the lake so every guest has a view. The staff went out of their way to make our stay great. My husband and I wanted to make our room cooler but couldn’t change the thermostat. We asked the front desk for help and they provided us a room chiller and fan that resolved the issue. I especially appreciated the restaurant manager, Hugo. He made us feel like king and queen and accommodated our preferences and requests. We highly recommend you stay at this hotel and enjoy your breakfasts and dinners at the restaurant, and tell Hugo hello!

Everyone and everything in this hotel is about perfection. Accommodations were amazing and staff was very professional and helpful. The restaurant was second to none…food was excellent. The view of the Titicaca lake was breathtaking!!!
