Because I booked the room late, I found this hotel accidentally. It was the first stop when I came to Rovaniemi. I stayed for three days. It was very good. It was right next to the zoo. I even saw the Aurora on the second day after I checked in.

Very comfortable and cozy hotel. Except for the poor breakfast, everything is very good, recommended.

We have just returned from 3 nights here, we stopped in one of the apartments. We were picked up at the airport by a member of staff who was friendly and helpful. He took us to a shop before we got to the hotel where we bought milk and sandwich bits. We brought our own teabags. Check in was quick and we were directed to our accommodation which is on the other side of the road and reached by walking under the bridge. This only took a few minutes. They are all semi detached houses set at the edge of the woods, each can accommodate up to 6 people. Each one has a different animal name. There were 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, one with a sauna and 2 beds on the landing. There is a full kitchen which had a lot of utensils etc so you would be able to cook every night if you wished. They supplied washing up liquid, bin bags etc. There was ample seating and a log burner, they supplied a basket of wood which easily lasted us our stay. We were very warm throughout our stay. We had breakfast included, quite a small buffet style but with enough options that you could try something different each morning. We went to the restaurant once during our stay, not cheap but great food and had the buffet lunch at Bubo which was nice. We were also supplied with warm winter overalls to keep us warm whilst doing any activities including boots and gloves. We got free entry to the wildlife park which is on site for the duration of our stay which is definitely worth a visit. The hotel offers many different activities, we went on a husky ride and an unsuccessful aurora trip. We enjoyed both. Would recommend this hotel and I would stop there again

We had the best time here last week!! We did the bed and breakfast option, It gives you more flexibility. There is a restaurant across from where you eat breakfast, which would recommend. 16 euros for the buffet and includes coffee, teas and cold drinks. Then we would eat a main at night in the restaurant. They offer a 3 course meal, but the main was always enough after the lunch. A vegetarian option, along with the dish of the day. There is also a burger menu, that had chicken nuggets on it too. There is loads of snow. The zoo is good to look around. We found it to be very quiet. Yes there are other tourists visiting the zoo, so that why I would avoid the restaurant next to it at lunch time, as it is busy. Staff are really helpful. Jamie one the guides was really helpful with local knowledge. There is also a little bar next to reception which has a pool table Alcohol is limited and more expensive than the uk, but we had some larger which was really nice. Tips, I took tea bags with me. We didn’t bother going to the shop. The restaurant sold us milk. You do get a couple of sachets in your apartment of hot chocolate, and herbal teas. The apartments are very warm, we opened the window in the bedroom at night. The igloos if you stay in them, reception control the heating if you need it turning up or down. They supply a good selection of clothing and boots. Would definitely visit again .

Value for money is not a thing out here, the accommodation is ok, the meals are single choice but the setting is magical and unforgettable, the Huskeys are amazing the zoo makes a nice distraction , and the northern lights are stunning when they appear.. One word of caution, clarify your insurance position before going on the snow mobiles , we had an 'off" and the plastic screen popped off. Vehicle was recovered and we continued. On return the snowmobile was present with screen re fitted... we had to complete a, no we aren't injured form and were hit with a three hundred euro bill... The wife wouldn't let me cause a fuss but it was straight theft...

This was the most amazing 5 days. The accommodation was just stunning. We ventured out on many excursions including husky sledging safari, late night aurora borealis skating & private sauna and cold water swimming. ( service provide was Lupland) Lupland staff were amazing and polite and these two excursions are well worth it. Thank you

We spent 2 nights are Ranua and it was an average experience. The location and the igloos are stunning but that’s about it. Food is terrible, there is a very bad smell in the restaurant, service is average and they are clearly understaffed. Given the price tag, you’d expect a much better service.

We had an absolutely wonderful family holiday at Ranua resort. The accommodation was excellent, really spacious for the four of us. The kids loved being able to go straight out in to the snow, and we all loved to come in to warm up in the sauna. We cooked for ourselves a fair bit to save money and cater for fussy kids, and found the kitchen to be well equipped. The beds were comfy, the lodge very warm, and the heated drying cupboard very helpful. We borrowed the sledges lots, and also booked activities: The reindeer farm visit was fabulous, the family who hosted us were very friendly and inviting. Twilight ice skating was an absolute pinch-me moment…. On a frozen lake, just the four of us, toasting marshmallows, under the stars. Husky ride was great fun, it was beautiful travelling through the forest and great that us adults could drive. The warm snow clothes provided were excellent, really kept us warm. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. I 100% recommend Ranua Resort.

For a resort that’s supposed to be geared up for Santa visits they don’t cater for children!!! Beware of the full board option it’s not worth it! Stayed here for a Santa Lapland visit with my family and found the Resturant to be very poor! It’s buffet during the day, and also caters for the 100s of visitors to the zoo. Lunch was dreadful, if you don’t reserve a table you will struggle to find a place to sit, you will also be queueing with several bus loads of tourists during peak hours!! Which is 11.30 - 3pm! Everyday there was at least 40+ people queuing, just to be met with a poor buffet selection that’s limited with stale bread and over cooked hot food. For the evening, the don’t have a kids menus. There is a 3 course menu consists of a single starter, a main choice of 1 meat dish or 1 vegetarian, and a desert, so if you don’t like it you can have a burger! My kids didn’t want to eat the food, thankfully this did offer us burger or chicken nuggets, which is fine but after 3 days my kids were fed up with them! And wanted something else! No wine list - just 1 or 2 bottles of either red or white at €50 each! You can eat at the other Resturant that’s partly owned by the resort, but you have to pay! They do pizzas and a good variety of food but none of which is included in the cost of your stay!!!

We stayed at Ranua over Xmas. Our first night was in a glass igloo. We didn't see the northern lights but the igloos are superbly equipped for what they are and we arrived late to find meals in our fridge and wine. We transferred the next morning to the villas at the resort which are also very good accommodation. All of the transfers provided by the resort including airport transfers were spot on. We travelled with our 18 month old daughter with no issues. We were full board and the food exceeded our expectations. The only complaint we have is that lunch is served between 11am and 4pm but the resort had huge coach loads of zoo visitors each day who had lunch included so the small onsite restaurant was completely full from 12-2 for the coach groups reserved tables not allowing resort guests to eat which caught us out on our first day and not great when you have a child to feed and you can't sit down and eat. We had to eat lunch later because of this just like all other guests had to which I felt was a little unfair as the coaches were only visiting for the day yet took priority. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. The place is very child friendly. There are little sleighs everywhere you can just pick up and use for luggage or children. There is a shop but it only sells sweets. You would need to go to a local supermarket to get supplies. Reception provide tea and milk sachets. The activities get booked up very quickly so it's probably better to book in advance prior to arriving. Would recommend to families travelling with kids of all ages. The zoo is pretty much empty in winter as all of the animals are hiding and I don't blame them (lol) but the zoo wasn't the reason we booked it.

Wonderful location so peaceful. Stayed in the lodge which was beautiful, so big with 6 beds. Lovely sauna room and a fire place. Staff couldn’t do enough for us so friendly and helpful went out of their way for us. Enough food locations onsite. Zoo was onsite too which we visited in the snow. Would recommend staying here to anyone wanting a break. I would stay here again.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live in one of those bizarre social experiments with glass houses in the middle of a city, look no further than Ranua Resort Igloo! Imagine the thrill of constantly seeing cars full of strangers coming and going, right by your cozy little glass bubble. It’s an incessant parade of peeping toms! And let’s talk about security, or the utter lack thereof – it’s as if they expect the icy wilderness to do all the heavy lifting. The invasion of your privacy is so complete, you might as well be an animal on display at the zoo. So if you’re into public exposure with a frosty twist, this is the spot for you! Otherwise, brace yourself for a stay that’s as enjoyable as sitting in a fishbowl on Main Street. Thumbs way down!
