Hyatt Place Richmond Arboretum

The feel of the property is welcoming from the time one enters the lot. Nestled away from the busy Midlothian Turnpike traffic, one would hardly believe there’s a bustling metropolis beyond the trees! The staff was attentive and the attentions to COVID-19 guidelines was so on point. The room was meticulously cleaned. The noon check out was a godsend. I will be back!
Homewood Suites by Hilton Richmond-Downtown

The staff was great at this hotel and the breakfast was convenient. The rooms were some of the biggest I’ve ever stayed in although the bathroom area could be much bigger since the space allows. We stayed with extended family for the weekend for a wedding celebration in Richmond. We all agreed that the parking garage felt dark and creepy, but the biggest issue is the elevator situation. There are 2 Hilton hotels sharing the property and elevators. Picking which lobby you want to go to and having to remember which elevator to use to get to your car in the parking lot is a HUGE pain . There was never a time a got into the elevator and the other people in there didn’t complain about it. Not to mention when you get in the elevator, you don’t push any buttons because there aren’t any because you had to figure all that out before you got into it. I know this seems to be something new that other hotels are doing, but since they are both owned by Hilton , why not make it just one name and end it. I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again, purely because of this elevator situation. It’s just too much of a hassle, especially if you are on vacation.

Four Points by Sheraton Richmond

This is an older property that they’ve tried to keep up to date with moderate success. I’ll start with the Pros: -despite being totally full with teenagers and a wedding, it was quiet and they maintained pretty good order. They had a police detail on scene in the evenings which seemed purely preemptive. Kudos to management for spending on that, a lot of places wouldn’t. -there’s a lot in the immediate area in terms of restaurants, stores, etc. Pretty much every chain you could think of is in the vicinity. -we didn’t use it but there’s a pool with an outdoor area. -the beds were unusually comfortable! Not sure if it was the Sheraton sweet sleeper bed but it stood out. -I requested additional items for our room from housekeeping and they were delivered in a reasonable timeframe and the associates were friendly. Cons: -The biggest one is the old and out of date HVAC. You have two options: blast chiller freezing or stuffy. The AC will go on and off all night and sound like a 1970 school bus doing it. It really bothered my sleep. I was either too cold, too hot, or it was really noisy to the point of repeatedly waking me up. -the rooms were last renovated in 2015 and it’s time for another update. Lots of wear and tear. Some components clearly weren’t updated then and are just really old. Bathroom fixtures, etc. -My room was supposed to be 2 Queens. There’s no way those were normal queens. More like double beds. It was a battle all night with my teenager. My review is a little rough, but that’s because sleep quality is paramount and mine was really poor at this hotel. HVAC doesn’t receive enough focus but it can make or break a hotel and this one was bad. Would I stay there again? I’d explore other options in the area first. Four Points is kind of an unusual sub brand—“full service” but more bargain oriented. I think you tend to find dated properties that don’t quite meet the brand standards of the mainstream brand. Is it a step above a Hampton/Courtyard? Perhaps, if the details are done right. If you are a heavy sleeper you will probably do better here than I did.
