Before I begin, I want to acknowledge that the staff running the hotel are very nice, and I have no complaints about them. However, they do not own the hotel and have only been managing it for two years. This hotel is rated 3 stars but falls far below that standard. It appears old and tired, and it desperately needs a complete refurbishment. It's hard to know where to start, especially considering the £100 per night charge we incurred. 1) As you drive into the car park, there is a building on the right with a broken door, which looks unkempt and could be easily repaired. 2) The accommodation includes a row of chalet-style bedrooms adjacent to the car park. These are adequate but fall below the standard of a Travelodge. The door locks seem poor and lack security, especially since they are located in the car park. Inside the rooms, there is a bathroom light that is not working properly. Additionally, there is an unsightly TV aerial on the wall, which is not indicative of a 3-star establishment. 3) The wooden fence and roof over the walkway to the rooms are in very poor condition and appear to be falling apart. One post is so loose that it feels unsafe, especially for elderly guests. 4) As you walk down the steps to enter the hotel, there is a rusty piece of machinery to the right that could easily be removed to enhance the overall appearance. At the bottom of the steps, there is also a piece of wood missing. 5) Upon entering the reception area, the first thing you notice is the damaged ceiling above the bar. I was informed that the roof had leaked and caused this damage. Considering this is on the ground floor and the damage seems to be old, it is quite concerning and not reflective of a 3-star hotel. 6) The restaurant area leaves much to be desired, adding to the overall impression of neglect. There is another hole in the ceiling, which appears to be old damage. Additionally, the cereals provided were stale. 7) Regarding food quality, when we inquired whether the meat was halal, we received three different answers. One staff member said the chicken and lamb were halal; another claimed that nothing was halal, and finally, the chef stated that only the lamb was halal. Guests have a right to know what they are eating. 8) During breakfast, a group of men sitting near us began playing music. The staff did not intervene and allowed it to continue. While I could have addressed it myself, I feel that hotel staff should have asked them to turn it off. 9) In terms of food hygiene, I would expect nothing less than a 5-star standard from a hotel claiming to be 3 stars. This hotel has great potential, but it would require a significant investment of time and money to improve. Many of the issues I've mentioned could easily be resolved with a little effort. Would I recommend this place? The simple answer is no, not at this time and certainly not for the price.
