Stayed one night in a 6-bed dorm on a road trip through the North Island. The staff were the standout — friendly, genuinely helpful, and happy to share local tips. That made a real difference after a long drive. The common areas are modern and well designed, with comfortable lounge space and a good kitchen. The dorm was clean and the facilities were solid for a hostel at this price point. Location is a bit outside the centre, so you’ll want a car or be prepared to walk a bit to get to restaurants and the main attractions. Not a dealbreaker, just worth knowing. Good value overall, especially if you’re passing through Rotorua for the geothermal sights

Facilities: Well-equipped. The kitchen was very convenient to use. Cleanliness: Clean and reassuring to use. A young man kept the kitchen neat and tidy, which was a pleasure to see. Environment: The small parks nearby were full of beauty and surprises, and you could even soak your feet. Service: Warm and polite.

I had a private room with two beds all to myself. It was a bit small, but perfectly comfortable. The location was excellent, right in front of a park.

You have to take the stairs to get to the second floor! It might be a bit tough if you're carrying heavy luggage...!!! The kitchen is really spacious and clean.

The location was very nice just less than 10 min from here to central area. It's fine if you stay.

Bad even by Hostel standards. The bathroom was dirty and smelled of mould. The Room was next to a swinging door and the walls were paper thin. I could hear people in the courtyard below, spitting. The Hostel offered a 'car park' which was a back yard with no gate, no security and no guarentee of a spot, despite the $15 per day charge. The ramp was also too low which meant ever time I used it, it would scrape the car's front bumper. I will not be back.

The beds are nice and cozy and the room is clean. The kitchen is huge and a lot of people can use it at the same time without having to wait around for a sink. Lots of food storage cubicles and two larges fridges. Service was friendly and courteous.

Our stay at Haka Rotorua was disappointing. Although we had booked three rooms, only two were available at check-in because one room had not been cleaned yet. This was unacceptable and caused unnecessary inconvenience. The front desk service was not very welcoming, and reception closed quite early, making it difficult to get assistance when needed. The room layout was also unusual and not very practical. Overall, the experience did not meet our expectations.

Check-in wasn't easy. The bedding was a bit dirty, which was disappointing, but the bathroom and washroom were clean! The kitchen facilities were also great! Oil and salt were provided, and the dining area was comfortable!

Stayed for three nights, and it was excellent! The design is very well thought out, it was warm at night, and I really liked the kitchen too.

The bus stops and other public transport options aren't too far, which makes it convenient for getting around to various places. Also, when booking a tour, the hotel could be designated as a pickup point, which was very convenient.

Good location and convenient for exploring Rotorua. I’ve stayed at a few other Haka House hostels, and Rotorua’s wasn’t quite as clean as the others. However, it was still clean and comfortable overall. The staff were friendly, and I enjoyed my stay. I would recommend it to travelers looking for good value and a great location.

The accommodation is very spacious and close to tourist attractions. You won't feel lonely even if you're traveling solo because there are so many friendly people here. It's safe, the staff are attentive, it's clean, and the price is affordable.
