I always try to be constructive whenever I comment on hotels but I have to say it was very difficult to find something to be constructive about regarding our 4 night stay at the Krone Hotel. We had stayed at the Krone before, possibly around 20 years ago so perhaps our expectations were unrealistic but there really was no excuse for what we experienced. We were fobbed off with the wrong grade room, breakfast on the first two mornings was a disgrace and the receptionist, but more importantly the owner were very quick to try and shift blame for everything that went wrong onto *******. Because we were able to substantiate their failings, we did manage to agree recompense for the €156 the hotel intended to overcharge however, we would have much preferred that this had not been necessary. We felt sorry for the staff, they tried so hard but they were under immense pressure as there so few of them. Given recent events, we can all understand that there may be reasons for shortcomings but there is no excuse for the dishonest claims made by the owner and his receptionist. Once credibility is lost, everything is lost. To hear some of the other guests from Germany making references to Fawlty Towers was sad, but true………..

We were here 4 years ago to look at the hotel, rates and rooms. 3 years later we made reservations almost a year in advance. A month before our arrival, we called to see if there were any issues with parking a van. At that point we were told we did not have a reservation even though we had confirmation through email. We could book a new reservation but now the rate had gone up and they would not honor the original rate. When we arrived at the hotel, no one was at the front desk. Someone (an employee of the hotel?) had to find someone to check us in. Our rooms turned out to be in adjacent building which we did not know was part of the hotels and was not as nice as the rooms we had previously seen. We had three rooms - all the same price even though one of the rooms did not have turret windows or a balcony. Instead of a open seating for breakfast, we were told to arrive at 9:00. It appeared as if only a couple other rooms were occupied. We wanted to be on the road after a two day stay by 7:30. We arranged to have someone at the front desk at that time and were told we would have box breakfast. No one showed up to check us out or deliver the breakfast but were greeted by multiple police officers. When someone did show up to check us out, she said the police were there because an alarm went off. It was odd because they were taking pictures, examining doors, systems for what sounded like a false alarm (or was it something else?). The rooms had beds that were a foot or so off the floor. Pillows had no support. Opening a window just made it noisy. There were quite a few spiders/bugs and it seemed that the place could use some work. Hallways were dark and spooky. Even one of the employees was so distraught that he turned to my friend and hugged her to cry on her shoulder. It's a very historic and interesting hotel but just not being operated and maintained properly. Just a very odd stay.
