We're a little up to two thoughts when assessing the hotel. From the arrival: the parking space was large but full. We had to look for a place. Check-in went smooth, there is an old, small lift for 1 person with luggage. The room was filled. There was no refrigerator, no air-conditioning, and the seat on the photos missed. There were two chairs, there was a TV with few broadcasters, a bathroom with small bathroom and a separate fine shower. The room is clean, but room cleaning, clean towels etc is not standard. That's why you need to ask. Breakfast is in buffet form. There is service for coffee, toast and special orders. The hotel was dead in the evening, no one was confessed to give a drink or anything. Pretty Bar Good Location Good Food if top end price wise Questionable Service. We were a family party of 6 people, visiting the place for a booked meal. It was the day of the Battle light switch on for Xmas so the place had been very busy and I'm sure the staff were tired at the 6pm time we took the table. Lovely decoration and the venue looked great. When the Landlady came over to take our drinks order we asked if we could order food at the same time, which was agreed. One of the staff thought she knew one of our party and asked as much, all very funny and friendly. The Landlady just stood stock still until the person left the asked drinks again. Here it went wrong. When asked what beers, she said the 2 cask. I asked what keg beers and told there weren't any. Then pointedly corrected us saying Tap beer. Managed a eye roll, and generally frosty despite the glowing Xmas ears which made an interesting contrast, then repeat request for drinks. I pointed out we had only wanted to know what beers they had. Frosty look. Once she'd got our drinks order, she was off. Food forgotten, and never came back to our table again. Luckily the other staff were lovely. Then an hour later we asked how long the food would be,then the Landlord came over, apologised that our order had been lost between the bar and kitchen. So food was very late to table. To be fair I didn't ask, but we were not offered anything off as an apology. My food was lovely. Food generally was good if on the top end for a nice pub environment. Some meals seems small (6 pieces,of scampy). Was a very mixed experience but we would be very unlikely to go again. We did tip as really only the attitude of one (high up) person, when the whole team work hard.

Staff are very friendly, breakfast was good, I had a sausage and bacon sandwich one morning, it was a proper sandwich.

Quirky Georgian property, welcoming staff and pleasant location. Only an overnight stay but a first, a four poster bed ! It was cold weather, but the welcome was warm, with very welcoming log fires and plenty of seating for an evening stay.

Lipstick and rouge. On initial checkin, it looked ok. But we first noticed a spider, then lots of spider webs on one light. After removing the spider, we figured the bed was a little lumpy but nothing major. First night was initially quiet until the flat above came back. You can hear everything above. Walking around like you were in the basement of a farm house, voices… everything. So second night came back, found two very large spiders on the walls (talking full grown half a baseball sized spiders) killed them. Then put in ear plugs to sleep for the night. Several times woken by the loud banging of what i think was the opening and closing of doors. Though im not sure, then, after being unable to get back to sleep, removed the ear plugs to hear snoring from the room above. For the price paid, expected far more from this property. If those are not issues for you, then your good. Otherwise, you might want to go elsewhere. It was located in the heart of the town…
