Ponce de Leon Hotel

This is a historic building but it is in desperate need of updating and renovations. We have stayed here twice in the past, but I think it will be our last. The location is amazing but again the building a needs to be updated. The single elevator is extremely slow. The wifi for the tv was spotty and there was no functioning phone in our room so I had to call the lobby on my cell phone when the tv wouldn't work. There is no onsite parking and the garage costs $16 a day. We were not able to find space in front of the hotel to unload or load. There were cars parked in the loading/unloading zone both times even though there was no one in the lobby or standing outside.

Great location, no hot water. We could walk Everywhere we wanted to go, lots of entertainment and night life. Just an older building with older plumbing/heating.

Please. For the sake of your sanity and your sleep schedule, do NOT book this hotel. I opened the door and the room greeted me with a smell I can only describe as “freshly wiped panic.” Not clean. Not dirty. Just… unsettling, like the air itself had seen things and wasn’t ready to talk about it. The “boutique” décor? Three hangers. A mattress that gave up a decade ago and a comforter radiating the energy of “many have suffered here.” I spent my first twenty minutes doing a bedbug reconnaissance mission and the next ten praying for emotional strength. This wasn’t a hotel stay. This was spiritual adversity. If the Four Horsemen ever needed a weekend getaway, this is where they’d unpack their saddlebags. Save yourself. Seriously. Book anywhere else.

Good news: Great location and price, and pleasant, professional front desk staff. Bad news: (1) Only one drawer in a night stand for any storage, forcing one to live out of suitcase. (2) Door lock/closing mechanism, although working, was almost falling off the door. (3) No box of tissues supplied with room (4) Tiny bathroom with mini-sized toilet and bathtub that had no anti-slip surface and was not thoroughly clean to boot. (5) No dedicated parking, requiring use of municipal lot about 1/2 block away ($16/day). (6) Weekend street noise (cars & motorcyles speeding and revving) late at night Summary: You get what you pay for.

Overall, a decent place to stay. Has lots of potential but work should be given to spruce it up, even though it’s a very old building. Here are my main reasons for the 3 score rating: -great location downtown and near the pier. Super walkable to lots of great restaurants and shopping. -eclectic, cool atmosphere  -no onsite parking -bedding clean but bedframe was very dirty and scuffed. Bed firm but nice enough.  -floors were hardwood and appeared to not have been mopped or cleaned with something that didn’t rinse properly, very sticky.  -water in shower did not get hot, actually barely got warm  -door lock was broken -windows had no screens, shower window fell out when we tried to open it, most room windows wouldn’t stay opened  -tv was attached to a Roku (with only Roku remote) and had no main remote to adjust TV settings, tv was on a stretch mode so you couldn’t watch a movie or anything easily. -staff was super friendly

Property is old, but it is not clean. Staff was as helpful as she could be, but the elevator was not working, one of the bathrooms in the two bed unit has no sink. The location is the draw, but this is not a good place to stay beyond the one nonrefundable night

Property is a great location in downtown St. Petersburg. Great value if you just want an affordable place to stay downtown. Everything downtown is walkable. No parking on site but a public parking garage is close.

Hotel location is awesome. Room was clean. Parking wasn't great. Has to park a block or so away. Ended up paying $22 for the parking. Due to event parking $10 then an additional $12 the next morning. Hotel is very old and doors are very thin. You can hear anyone that comes by the room.
