MILFORD HALL SALISBURY by IHG

MILFORD HALL SALISBURY by IHG

📍 206 Castle Street, Salisbury
★★★★ 8.7 (69 reviews)

"Great stay. Upgraded to king premium room being Diamond IHG. Breakfast option was limited. Take away coffee was a great option. Parking was a bit pricey £10 per night. Room was spacious. No fridge in the room. Service was not tip top. I asked for a refill of coffee sachets but it was not done promptly. Had to remind at the reception. Overall, still a great stay."

"I/we stay in many hostels. I know hostels offer value-only accommodation, our expectations are modest. This hostel has a poor state of upkeep and exceptionally poor customer service. Yesterday (and for sure I could have expressed myself more constructively) I went to the staffer (Will) on reception and explained that I would be leaving a bad review: Because our en-suite shower was tepid, the bathroom mirror light and shaving point did not work, broken toilet seat, no where aside from beds to unpack our vanity bags, no bin and all of the installed reading lights neither wired nor working. The uninterested staffer shrugged their shoulders, said “I don’t care” and advised that I could use a communal shower. After taking a moment, I countered that as the member of staff he should care, we’d booked en-suite expecting the en-suite to be as advertised, and that he could be offering solutions to the raised problems - for example calling a plumber for the tepid shower, calling an electrician for the faulty shaving-mirror/vanity-light, offering a bin, repairing broken toilet seat etc. The staffer’s response was a further shrug and his unhelpful comment of “I don’t like the hostel anyway”. The following morning all of the sockets were faulty in the kitchen meaning no kettle, microwave or toaster availability for breakfast. No staffer, a notice advised to phone a mobile if any problems: I did, explaining the problems. All I was advised is that neither a staffer nor manager would be onsite for at least 20 minutes. I and another guest tried to find circuit boards to check ‘breaker switches’: The other guest found the kitchen one, reset the switch and the kitchen sockets power was restored. Bedding was clean, unpleasant eating area. I doubt I’ll be rebooking this hostel, which is a shame because its setting and location are nice: My advice would be to spend a bit more money and avoid the disappointment of staying in the hostel."

"I visited on 1st and 15th August . On first occasion with 6 work colleagues and on second visit with two friends. The food was very well presented and cooked and there was an excellent range of options including for vegetarians. Service was friendly and efficient and value was about right for a high quality meal in a very attractive and well appointed restaurant with an ‘open’ bar adjacent."

"Stayed for a big family birthday celebration Friday to Sunday and ate here from Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime. We had all four rooms which are are above the pub but have their own entrance with a little garden at the front and a lobby area with seating inside (perfect for meeting and having pre-dinner drinks) that all the rooms lead off from. Our room as large with views front and back, large comfortable bed, great tea facilities with fantastic homemade cookies, bathroom with bath and plenty of quality toiletries. Good free wi-fi, we slept very well with no noise from the pub. All the food we had was excellent. The menu changes slightly each day (roasts added on Sunday) and although it is quite expensive the quality is very high and portions great. Two ciders including the excellent Cranbourne Chase real cider on draft! Service was fantastic at all times from all staff who were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was also brilliant with homemade granola/compote and yogurt followed by various freshly cooked options including full English and smoked salmon. The inn is hidden away down a narrow lane and there are great walks in several directions straight from the door. Highly recommended!"

"We stayed at Cholderton Youth Hostel during a recent bike adventure, and I honestly can’t thank Mel enough for the welcome we received. We arrived much later than planned—covered in mud, exhausted, and feeling pretty broken after a tough 100km off-road. The moment Mel opened the door and saw the state of us, she gave me a hug, helped us with our bikes, and immediately put the kettle on! She even upgraded us to an ensuite and cooked us a lovely dinner well past the usual time. The hostel itself was spotless, warm, and the beds were incredibly comfy with plenty of hot water. We only saw the beautiful surroundings the morning light, but it was stunning. We’ll definitely be back to actually explore the grounds and see the animals! Highly, highly recommend.""

"We stayed in an apartment. The facilities were perfect. We were able to cater for ourselves - so did not eat in the hotel dining room. The apartment was very comfortable - warm, quiet and fully equipped. Excellent location and very good value for money. Will definitely be returning."

"This is an old country hotel. The nameplate says it opened in the 17th century. The facilities inside are well maintained. The exterior is relatively simple, and you need to carry your own luggage up the stairs, and the winding road is not easy to walk."

The Merchants House, BW Signature Collection ★★★★
"The room we booked was converted from a mews, which was a completely new experience for us and quite surprising in an interesting way. Almost everything else was fantastic. The staff were extremely kind and friendly, and the breakfast was excellent — you really have to try the Indian spice omelette. They also serve coffee and tea to your table instead of self-service, which felt very decent and welcoming. The breakfast staff in particular were warm and attentive. However, because the room was converted from a mews, the facilities have some limitations. The ventilation is not good, and we experienced allergy symptoms after having the air conditioner on all night during winter. There was no proper heater in the room, so we had to rely on the air conditioner for warmth, and it took about 15–20 minutes to start working. Also, it did not feel very clean when in use. Another downside is that there is no real window — only the mews door — which makes the room feel a bit closed-in and affects air circulation. Overall, this hotel offers wonderful staff and an amazing breakfast, but the room facilities and ventilation, especially in the converted mews rooms, could be improved. If you are sensitive to air quality or prefer natural light and windows, I would recommend choosing other places or other rooms instead of the mews-style rooms."
