Holiday from 06-16 April 2025 We stayed here the same time last year and had the same issues, but we thought we'd give it another go, in case it was a one off...it wasn't... Let's start with the good (won't take long) 01. Great selection of food (when you can get to it) 02. Hotel always clean and smelling fresh 03. Great facilities - 3 pools, games room, souvenir shop, numerous bars and lockers to put your luggage in on leaving day, if you have late transfers (2 Euro's) Now the bad... 01. When we arrived, it took half an hour to check in. Apparently the receptionist was a new starter and was struggling with international guests having to use their passports to check in. She wanted me to leave my passport until she sorted it. Not happening. I stood there until she sorted it. She was friendly though. 02. Totally ruined our holiday (this year and last) There were numerous parties of teenage children coming and going. As some left, you could guarantee they'd be promptly replaced by another party. Believe they were all on some sort of sporting activities. This wouldn't be so bad if they didn't do everything together. It was meal times that ruined our stay. They would all come for their meals together. You couldn't get near the hotplates (the cold food wasn't too bad to get to, with exception to the ice cream) The queue for hot food was enormous. They didn't mind jumping in front of you in the queue either. On one occasion, we were in the queue outside the restaurant with the teenagers, when the restaurant opened and we eventually got in, we were told we'd have to wait until the rest of the teenagers had entered, some of them hadn't even arrived yet. Five minutes later, we were let in. I was fuming. Also, they were told to stick to left of the restaurant and us the right, fair enough, but they kept coming onto our bit, god forbid we went onto theirs, staff all over you. 03. You had to pay for water at dinner and tea, as there are no drinks machines. You had to go to the bar for this. They supply drinks for breakfast though. They say you can ask for tap water for free, but this is all they supply you with when you pay for it; in recyclable bottles. 04. Most of the staff were miserable in the restaurant. With dozens of teenagers rampaging around, I can understand this though. 05. You had to pay to use the safe in your room. 06. No tea or coffee making facilities in the regular rooms. 07. The housekeepers kept moving my showerhead to the bottom of the slider and facing the showerhead against the wall. I found this very annoying, having to reset it every day. All this is a shame, because the hotel itself is great. It just gets let down by the incessant marauding of school children. They need to come up with a plan at meal times. Maybe get them in before the regular guests or give them their own hotplates. Needless to say, we won't be staying again. We only holiday at this time of year, so will have to try somewhere else. My advice, if you wa
Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback and for choosing to stay with us again. We’re glad you appreciated the food variety, cleanliness, and facilities, but we’re sorry to hear other aspects didn’t meet your expectations. During peak periods like Easter, we do host school groups, and while we try to manage dining areas and timings, we understand it can affect the experience. Your comments will help us improve coordination and guest flow. Regarding water service, complimentary tap water is available upon request, though bottled water is charged. Extras like the safe and in-room kettles are optional amenities. We hope you’ll reconsider visiting our quieter MedPLaya hotels In Benidrom or Costa del Sol, where the atmosphere may be more suited to your preferences. Thank you again for your comments. Stayed here for three nights in April. Check in was fine and no issues. On arrival in bedroom was large free bottle of wine and water . The room was ok, bedroom that had three beds. No issues really with the room . Few dents and dirty marks on the walls but nothing major. The real issues were with the restaurant, we given a allocated meal slot of 9 pm until 10 pm, the restaurant was super busy and felt uncomfortable with the amount of people in there especially all the older people and groups of school kids. It was a matter of getting food eaten and getting out there as quick as possible , food times were relaxed. There was at least over 150 kids staying in hotel and making noise and being stupid. I was glad we were only using hotel as a base to spend all our time in theme park. Don’t think I be returning again to this hotel in April. In June, July and August experiences in hotel have been much nice when full of normal tourists .

We’re glad to hear that your check-in went smoothly and that you appreciated the welcome amenities in your room. My husband and I have stayed at this hotel before about 6 years ago. This time the rooms have been renovated and are looking great. Room was lovely and liked it had a sofa to sit on. Nice big walk in shower and the water was always hot. The room was spotless. The food in the restaurant was good. I eat gluten free bread and cakes. These were supplied to me from the kitchen and in wrapping. The bread rolls were warm which is great. There was plenty of food and a great choice. The pool area was clean and tidy. I didn't use the pool as it's October. The staff were all nice and the restaurant staff were all very helpful and nice. I cannot fault the hotel and will return. I left my remote for my TV stick in the room so might collect it next visit 😂 Ps the duck is called quackers and has been travelling on holidays for 20 years.
Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you so much for your lovely review and for choosing to return to MedPlaya Hotel Calypso after a few years! We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the renovated rooms, gluten-free options, and the warm service from our team. It’s wonderful to know everything met your expectations and that “Quackers” also had a great time with us! Looking forward to welcoming you back soon. ARRIVAL: When we first arrived it was rammed in reception, nobody directed or helped us with any extra info. We didn’t know how to get into the food hall with the slips and the cards they give you for your drinks. It was a total shambles. We also got denied lunch on our first day even though we’re all inclusive. 2: HUNDREDS OF SCHOOL CHILDREN: This hotel caters to HUGE school trips, one after the other. We got allocated 4 rooms on the ground floor and unfortunately, our rooms were in the midst with ALL of the kids filling the other 20 rooms. Why they would do this is BEYOND disrespectful and shows they care more about the money than anything else. As you can imagine they were extremely loud, for the next 10 nights we had 6 different loads of kids coming through replacing the next (all ranging from 10-17 on sports trips) Some arrived at 2am and some early morning at 7am. Making a huge racket through the corridors, we must have seen 300 kids come and go and we were the only 4 rooms in-between them all…? We felt so let down by the hotel for doing this to us. I did go down to reception + they offered to move our rooms but we’d already done 7-8 days. She told us they would be gone by the next day. ‘All kids will be gone, finished tomorrow’ in her words. The next day we had another 100 teenagers walk through the doors so she fully lied to our faces. These were older teenagers with no adult supervision. Screaming in the corridors, slamming doors, walking past the rooms until the early hours. I contacted reception multiple times, all they say is they will send security and they never came. Having one security guard between 10pm-12am is not enough to keep 100’s of kids in line. They shouldn’t be here with other guests in the first place! One time I told the receptionist that we’ve had this for almost 10 nights, she literally LAUGHED down the phone and said no they haven’t been here that long even though I know from day 1 till day 10 it’s been nothing but disruptive kids with no respectable adults keeping them in line and waking us up all hours of the night. She also hung up the phone on me when I rang for the 4th time asking where the guard was. The lack of care is laughable, especially when myself and another family member are heavily pregnant and need our rest. 3: DINING + DRINKS While we didn’t sleep or get any relaxation time, the food hall was chaotic when the kids were there. They pushed in to the front of the queues meaning we had to wait ages for food. They seemed to get full priority. Teachers didn’t bother to keep them inline and the staff couldn’t have cared less. I found the food fine though, I enjoyed my meals but the stress of getting it made it un-enjoyable at times. The opening times are very short too and they don’t open till 7pm. Drinks options are very limited, but it was nice they had hot drinks available all day. The cocktails were really basic and cheaply done out of a machine. 4: POOLS The kids pool isn’t great, but the ‘adu

Just arrived home from a fantastic holiday here my only issue was the way you have to give a card for your cup to get a drink then give your cup back to get your card back, silly idea as you spend most of your time queing & the snack bar on the terrace used to have a salad bar in the middle with other food then you went to the grill for your cooked food not anymore you again have to que to order. I highly recommend they change it back to how it used to be a few yrs ago! Apart from that the rooms are nice & the whole place is spotless clean & animation team are fantastic.

Staff are so rude here!! The receptionist who was working today (11th June about 1:20pm) she was blonde ish in her 50s and was the most vulgar lady I’ve ever interacted with!! My partner had ran in to ask if they could call us a taxi as it was 30 degrees and we couldn’t walk any further in the heat. From the get go she was very unhelpful and reluctant to call the taxi. After back and forth with her asking her nicely she proceeded to shout and flap her hands saying taxi number 9. Myself , my 3 year old and 5 other adults waited in the blistering heat for 30 minutes. I then went in to check how long it would be until the taxi arrived and the look on this lady’s face was absolutely shocking, she looked me up and down as if I was dirt and said don’t know with such an ill mannered tone. After waiting for an extra 20 minutes I had to ring one myself (using a uk number so has cost me more money) this taxi took no longer than 5 minutes which makes me think did she even call one in the first place? Other family’s were walking out of the hotel and waiting no longer than 2 minutes for their taxis! I’m honestly shocked at how she can sit on that front desk speaking to people like that and the young girl next to her looked embarrassed, I would too if I had to work with someone so nasty and rude!!

Although advertised as a family friendly resort, it is far from it..... Family rooms are small, if using the sofa bed, the balcony is then not accessible. Swimming pool is sign posted no balls/floats but lifeguards allow some to use small balls, some to use larger balls and some nothing at all. With a young family member who is neuro diverse, this is incredibly hard for them to understand as the goalposts continually move and change depending on the lifeguard working. We purchased 3 different sized balls when speaking with staff at the pool beforehand resulting in still not being able to use once back at the pool with the same lifeguard. Lifeguards are very hit and miss whether being there or not being there, this results in the pool varying in opening and closing times every day and also long periods of time without any lifeguards on duty at all. During our stay, a child fell into the pool, no lifeguard around, child rescued by someone on the side. Another day, child friendly pool with two slides didn't open until gone mid-day as they need to remove netting. During our visit there were a large number of school children on trips completely unsupervised, this caused a wide number of issues; Restaurant - completely inaccessible at times unless wanting a 40 minute wait to get in. One particular morning, members of our group joined the line for the restaurant in the reception area, the floor above. Sleeping - They were all on the floor below our room and each night were sitting out on their balconies talking, singing and being loud until well past 3/4am. A number of times other holiday goers called out asking for them to stop, absolutely nothing done by the hotel to combat this even after complaining to reception. Apart from the school children other issues were; Restaurant - can be very long wait and food slow to be replenished. Breakfast and dinner are ok, dinner provides variety but if you are there more than 4 days, the meals are repeated. Although advertised as a family resort, the entire restaurant have 2 high chairs, one without any kind of safety straps, the other, has a snapped leg which has been glued but will fall off gain any day soon. Pool bar - manned by one person possible two throughout the day, this results in very slow drinks. In the evening, they have two or three sometimes more depending on the waiting time but this is still in excess of 20-30 minutes to order. Good points; Grill - This is very very good and bought this from a one to a two star. They are very good, food is quick, drinks are far quicker than the restaurant and downstairs bar although this does then limit food options. Location is good for beach and shops and getting out of the resort.

Overall the hotel was clean, the rooms modern and the pool areas good, however by far the worst aspect of our stay was the restaurant. On our first evening we arrived at the restaurant to find a large group of students entering at the same time, the size of the group meant it was difficult to even enter the restaurant and caused lengthy queues for food (We waited around thirty minutes for the queue to become tolerable). In isolation I could put this down to bad timing, however the same situation played out the following evening, on both occasions there did not seem to be any attempt to manage the situation and the size of the groups simply overwhelmed the restaurant for a time. There were also further occasions when long queues formed at the entrance of the restaurant even when student groups were not present, this was a source of frustration several times during our stay. I personally did not enjoy the food but you can't please everyone all of the time so I would not be overly critical in that respect, however a common complaint was the temperature of the food which was often only slightly warm or even cold. We were happy with most aspects of the hotel, however the restaurant really had a negative impact on our holiday and for that reason alone we would not return.

Hotel was nice and clean, all inclusive drinks again good apart from the bar staff had a difference of opinion of what’s all inclusive to what’s on the qr code, breakfast good, lunch/tea not so much, the food lacked any type of correlation and although I acknowledge many different nationalities/people there it just didn’t make a great deal of sense. The snack bar food was much better apart from the spaghetti. Staff were friendly and helpful when needed. Turned up at 11am informed room ready at 2pm, had to put luggage in lockers at 2 euro at a time which is a joke considering we were dropped at the hotel yet expected to pay for 3 lockers or we had to sit there waiting. Entertainment was ok and got people involved. Pool was nice but strangely cold until about 4pm. Holiday was ruined by the two events that took place, someone let their child in the pool without a nappy, wasn’t stopped and subsequently the child poo’d in the pool, although accidents happen the kid was picked up and simply moved to the other pool. Not a single thing said to the family, pool was then obviously shut. Following day same family same pool same kid fell in the pool, a guest grabbed the child out before lifeguard got there to no fault of his. They then screamed at him and swore at him for 5/10 minutes all sorts of abuse when as parents it’s there issue, I complained to reception they came down did nothing whatsoever, fast forward half hour later the other 2 guests arrived from that party, the mother proceeded to hit the man in full view of everyone on and off for 10/15 minutes whilst continuing the abuse the poor lifeguard, not content with that she then took a coat hanger out and proceeded to beat him with that again no security no reception nothing at all, still not happy with that she snapped the coat hanger in half and attempted to stab him multiple times to which I complained again, all this happening in front of everyone right near where my autistic non verbal son is. Finally someone came down and focused more on the life guard that the family and the issue at hand. Ten minutes after this same woman attempting to sell stolen primark clothes to Spanish ppl around the pool. I’ve never in my life seen anything play out like this in full view with literally no action to stop or remove the problem. It was horrendous to watch and very scary. Worst part of it all was nothing at all was done to safe guard the guests especially my son.
