Pension Katrin, or “Haus Katrin” as the sign on the front of the building says in large letters, is very well located in Salzburg. One can walk to the City center or get the public buses a short walk from the front entrance. We made this reservation on ***********, but also found that Sandra, the owner, is very good with communication and providing any additional information or help her customers may require. We arrived late in the afternoon, as we were driving from Liechtenstein. Sandra had confirmed that late check-in would not be problem.. though we did eventually get there during their office hours. There is adequate, free parking at the property, and we were issued two mobility tickets which allow free travel on the city transit buses for the duration of the stay in Salzburg - so park on arrival and you do not need to move your car until you leave. Apparently, all Salzburg hotels do this for their guests. A word of caution: parking in these European cities can be notoriously difficult, with arcane, complicated traffic rules ~ usually accompanied by the most unwelcome, ridiculously expensive tickets, which can sometimes take up to three years to show up in the mail. Like in Italy – legalized scams. The lobby is neat and compact, with no wasted space. The breakfast room is off to the front of this lobby, facing the parking area, but there is no elevator. We had two really heavy bags as we had just come off a 12-day cruise, but Sandra’s husband effortlessly carried both up to our third-floor room (second-floor outside the US, that is..) as if they weighed nothing. (BTW – on our way out two days later, he wasn’t there and Sandra offered to bring them down - but I was too embarrassed to allow her to do that.) The room: lovely, spacious, clean and well fitted out. There is a spotlessly clean bathroom with all the requisite accoutrements, compact corner shower – very adequate. The room itself was spacious, with a comfortable bed, space to open two bags, lots of closet and drawer space to unpack for longer stays (we had only 2 nights as they were busy the next night and we had to move to another hotel in the city center – bummer – I prefer not have to move within the same stay,) and the mandatory flat-screen TV. Was there an English-language channel – maybe were not doing this right ? There is a desk with two chairs where one could set up a computer, an armchair and small pedestal table towards the front of the room, by the large windows opposite the bed. These overlook the parking and street below and provide a lot of light and ventilation (in season, I mean – not for opening in December) so overall, we had a very nice room. Thank you, Sandra. Breakfast was very good: a very nice, though somewhat non-expansive buffet with the usual culprits, boiled eggs and bread, and also offered to make fresh omelets or other preparations, and good coffee. Overall, a very nice, comfortable stay. Wish we had more time – but thank you for
