Don Gregory by Dunas - Adults Only

We have just returned from the Dunas Don Gregory and 1 week just wasn’t enough. We had a wonderful stay in the most perfect room (131) opposite the lower pool. Every morning I would just open the patio door and I was there right in the garden next to the peaceful pool-absolute bliss! My husband is a Road cyclist and and there was plenty of room to to keep his bike (rented from Free Motion about 10 mins walk away) in the room. He says the hotel is the perfect location for all of his favourite rides. It is also great for bus travel and most afternoons we caught the terrific Global bus service somewhere (Las Palmas, Puerto Morgan, Amadores) or we walked to the sand dunes in Maspalomas along the excellent walkway directly outside the hotel. The hotel has plenty of bars/restaurants around and supermarkets opposite. The hotel buffet for breakfast and dinner was really good, had enough variety for us and the team in there work very hard. The position of this hotel is a big selling point I feel and sets it apart from other hotels in the area. It has direct access to the beach and the views are lovely, we loved hearing the sound of the waves and eating meals looking out onto the beach. It was a very peaceful hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Will definitely be returning.

There was no cause for complaint or disappointment with this well-managed, conveniently located beach front hotel. Comfortable bed; adequate bedroom maintained each day; reasonable choice from a buffet menu, breakfast and dinner and very pleasant staff!

On arrival very efficient check in. Great staff on Reception. Our Room 810 was very spacious internally and spotlessly clean. The Balcony was on the small side slightly obscured on LH side. Not a problem as area by Pool great. Sun beds are reserved by Lifeguard for those of us with disabilities. There were plenty of sun-beds for all so towel dash unnecessary. We found all the staff at hotel extremely friendly even though some of them couldn’t always understand English. It seems as though English guests are in the minority. The Pool is one of the best I’ve used abroad with amazing access into the lovely warm water. Never crowded, sometimes having it to myself. There was daily Aquafit which popular with men and women. The Lifeguard Diego was so helpful, nothing was too much trouble for him. When the shade went from Sun bed he’d willingly adjust the position of umbrella. Never had this service before. There was plenty to eat in the Restaurant but found it seemed to cater more for Europeans. Loved the Omelettes breakfast time which were cooked to order. The Wine Waiter Marcos was very helpful. Also there are tables reserved for those with mobility issues, making it easier to access the food counters. A special thank you to waitress Angelina who seemed to work all over the bars. Her English was very good. Also the head barman in Entertainment Bar very obliging. Nice touch having beds turned down and nightdress made to look pretty. I found the bed hard so after first night had a mattress topper. Fine after that. Loved the Adult Only vibe. The only downer to me, due to mobility issues, was the area outside hotel. The Shopping Centre leaves a lot to be desired and there is no lift between floors, just steep hills to walk up. Not many shops open either. Fortunately there is a supermarket ground floor level.

The location is perfect. Right on the beach with beautiful views from any part of the hotel including the rooms. A modern fresh looking building with a welcoming environment and very friendly staff all throughout. Clean, comfy and elegant

We had stayed at the Don Gregory several times before. It is in an excellent situation beside a good beach for swimming and a prom for walking. The hotel is excellent with superb buffet mealtimes. We stayed in a Premium Room and it is well worth the extra cost.

Brilliant adults only hotel. Quiet location with amazing promenade to neighbouring beaches. Wonderful buffet food and service throughout the hotel. Received a bottle of fizz for our anniversary together with good wishes, both written and in person at dinner. Fabulous holiday in every way!

This is a wonderful hotel. We liked that it is adults only. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a great choice of good food and themed nights made it even more interesting. The all inclusive drinks were very good and included a great red wine and some branded spirits as well as local ones, so plenty of choice. There was a good choice of cocktails. The hotel was set on the beach and our room had a great sea view. There was music at the pool for the water aerobics but it was quiet other than that, which we liked. Later some afternoons there was a violinist or keyboard player providing music in the background for an hour which was lovely. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Pool towels were provided, you just needed to leave a deposit. We were lucky with the weather and able to sit out in the outside bar in the evenings, looking out over the sea with a cocktail. There was entertainment most evenings which was varied and we enjoyed it. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

The hotel has the prime position in San Agustin right at by the sandy beach. The reception staff are all friendly and helpful, and while there is water available at check in no cava as is usual in 4 star hotels. We stayed in an Infinity pool side room which was of a good size with large bed (two singles pushed together). Double wardrobe so good for hanging space but only a couple of small shelves and no drawers at all. At the bedsides were two cheap looking wire “units” with a tray on top to place some items. I would have thought it would have been easy to replace these with table drawer units which would look more in keeping and practical. While there is a kettle and fridge with water and soft drinks on arrival and teabags and coffee provided there is no replenishment after first day (and suggest bring your own teabags). For this category of hotel I would expect water to be provided every day. The room needs TLC – the curtains had holes in them and the wallpaper was faded by the sun and Was peeling in places. Because of its position with direct access to the lawn and pool the floor was never clean but that is a compromise for the position and easy enough to shower The shower and toilet are as others have said glass compartments, but we found this no problem especially as the key depth portions are frosted. However it was all but impossible to maintain a constant shower temperature I found I could be very cold one minute but dangerously hot the next. Shortly after arrival I had an email asking for opinion which was all too early to assess, but as asked for comments mentioned the temperature problem but never received any response. The restaurant served a good choice for breakfast and had some outside seating ( though reduced numbers for part of our stay due to the wind). Dinner menu generally of reasonable quality, though some weird offerings such as roast pork dished up about an inch thick and so totally inedible and a few occasions with undercooked or over cooked fish, and of course the perpetual comment about cold vegetables. That all said there was always something to suit all palettes. The staff in the restaurant and the bars with just a couple of exceptions always had a smile and were very friendly and so hard working (you would see a face at breakfast and the same person could be working the pool bar at lunch). How they maintain such good humour and professionalism over so many hours I do not know – well done to all of you I feel their hard work is let down by management with the negatives basically in relation to lack of urgency in attending to guest complaints. There is a guest experience desk but unattended for most of the time that we were able to see when we went into the area or saw through from pool bar. Our first visit was just to make a suggestion.
