Thompson San Antonio Riverwalk by Hyatt

The property was beautiful but my check in was lacking a lot of information; breakfast times, location, available amenities were not explained to me but the staff was nice and professional. The property was beautiful and my room was a great location. The items in the room such as shower steamers being a charge per use was very disappointing for such a distinguished brand as Hyatt! Overall the room was nice & very clean! 10th floor had a decent view, breakfast with a view was nice; too windy for outdoor eating though.

we were very disappointed in the grab and go breakfast offerings through Moon’s daughter. We ordered a bacon and egg taco…the unseasoned eggs and greasy bacon were served on pita bread. The container it was served in was full of grease. There was some unknown food item that looked like tofu. In San Antonio, you can’t call something a breakfast taco and serve what we got. Gross

The Thompson was excellent all around. The staff was especially helpful and the valet service was a huge plus given the lack of available parking in the area. Highly recommended.

Check in was a breezy, our room was clean and tidy, fresh fruit available in the common area on each floor, champagne while we waited for our complimentary ride to the Tobin Center, a fantastic restaurant on the 20th floor with beautiful views of the river walk and skyline! Couldn’t have asked for more!

The Thompson is the best place to stay in San Antonio! Everything is immaculate and the staff is outstanding!

Beautiful Property, Service Inconsistencies My girlfriend and I stayed over Valentine’s Day weekend because of the hotel’s reputation for exceptional service and beautiful accommodations. The room itself was lovely, and I appreciated the help from the concierge when arranging a Valentine’s setup in advance. Unfortunately, several service issues detracted from the experience. The shower water pressure was extremely poor one morning, only one robe was provided despite a couples stay, and room service was difficult to reach and arrived incomplete. There was also confusion regarding what was included in the Valentine’s package versus what was ultimately charged. Given the nightly rate and the special occasion, we expected stronger attention to detail. Most disappointing, I emailed the hotel afterward to seek clarification and have not received a response. The property itself is beautiful, and we truly wanted this to be a standout stay. With more consistent service and follow-through, it certainly could be.

They ask for your credit card information if you've already paid for your stay through Expidia, and when you leave the hotel they take another $600—thieves!

The staff were very courteous and the hotel itself is beautiful inside. The rooms were exceptionally clean, one of those stays where you don’t feel the need to double-check the bedding or hesitate to leave your belongings out. Truly impressive housekeeping. The reason for a 4 instead of a 5 comes down to a few things more related to hotel logistics than staff. Valet is $65 per night, so we parked a block away in a garage for $6. It was a little disappointing that when we asked about nearby parking options, neither the front desk nor valet could offer suggestions. There’s no complimentary breakfast, which is common in luxury hotels, but breakfast was quite pricey, about $70 with tip for two people. The location is also a bit in between: not especially close to the main Riverwalk activity, yet not an area we felt eager to walk around alone at night. There is a restaurant onsite, but when we tried to dine there, we were told it was reservation-only at the time unless we wanted to sit at the bar or order room service, so we skipped it. We also chose this hotel for the heated outdoor pool and called ahead to confirm it was comfortably heated, but sadly it was cold during our stay, so we didn’t swim. Overall, it’s a strong, comfortable 4. Guests planning to take full advantage of the spa and onsite amenities may very well experience it as a 5.
