Grand Hotel Excelsior

The Grand hotel Excelsior is one of my favorite Italian seaside hotels. The rooms are spacious and well decorated and the beds large and very comfortable. The restaurant food is excellent and service from all the staff very good. I would definitely stay here again.

LOCATION: VOTO 4 (da 0 a 10) : Struttura antiquata e non rimodernata (infissi senza doppi vetri termo-acustici, porte del bagno cigolanti, porte delle camere in legno ed estremamente rumorose alla chiusura che disturbano la quiete e il riposo notturno) MENU': VOTO 6 (da 0 a 10) : Sufficiente, anche se a colazione lascia un pò a desiderare come varietà, così come le verdure a pranzo e a cena che sono sempre le stesse. SERVIZIO: VOTO 7,5 (da 0 a 10) : Camerieri affabili e gentili, pronti a soddisfare ogni richiesta culinaria di loro competenza; front office gentili. CONTO: VOTO 4 (da 0 a 10) : Troppo elevato per ciò che tutto sommato offre.

Stayed for six nights prior to attending a wedding nearby, and had a great time relaxing by the pool and using the private beach. Good selection at breakfast and large comfortable room with excellent air-conditioning!

Good things first. A well-kept beach with friendly staff. And a swimming pool that is smaller than depicted, but still ok because rarely used by many guests at a time. And the level of cleanliness is impeccable. The rooms are adequate, though relatively spartan. The TV is much smaller than it should be. The water pressure in the old shower is just acceptable. There is no coffee maker of any kind The food at the restaurant, which is staffed by very friendly service-oriented people guided by an excellent supervisor, is nothing to write home about. In retrospect, we should have had mainly pasta for dinner, because that was the best the kitchen had to offer, as almost everything else was barely adequate. For breakfast, several ingredients were of the cheapest quality possible, and the bread was almost inedible. The highly congested parking area has the perhaps unintended but beneficial effect that guests may prefer leaving their cars there throughout their stay. Would we come back? I don't think so.
