Gaslamp Hostel

Downtown San Diego San Diego|0.23km from REV
Jennifer Rivera-Nichols 1/5 just now on Google I arrived with my mom to check in at this worst San Diego hostel at 1am...ridiculously exhausted. My mom had just paid to park 2 blocks away and we carried armfuls of belongings with us to the hostel. When we arrived, the clerk was like, ”Reservation?” like my mom was speaking Greek. She said nothing and just walked away. Minute later the owner came in and told my mom that I was not allowed to stay there because I'm under 18. She was talking to my mom like a bully. My mom explained to the owner that our room was already paid for, that she had booked it thru hotels.com as a minor + adult, and that it was 1am already...we're exhausted and where else are we gonna get a room at that hour. I kept falling asleep on their staircase during this time because I was so tired. The lady was arguing with my mom about their rules. Meanwhile, the clerk keeps saying to my mom, ”She's just trying to help you.” That's a lie. If they wanted to help, they could have...but they did not. After a heated conversation, the owner says she will allow me to stay. I was relieved. Then 3 seconds later I just heard her tell my mom, ”Nevermind. I don't like your attitude. You need to get off my property.” WTH Really? This mean lady was gaslighting my mom, bullying her, and was mad at us for just for walking thru the door. She could have approached my mom saying, ”Hi, I'm So-and-So, the owner. It looks like there is a discrepancy with your booking. Because we have shared bathrooms here, we don't allow children. I know it's 1am, and hearing this is really stressful, but let's see what we can do to figure this out. Would you be able to accompany your daughter to the bathroom?” Instead she treated my mom really bad like she had done something wrong. We've stayed at plenty of hostels. None of them had a policy saying I could not be there. I was starting to feel really scared that I would not have a place to sleep since I heard my mom on the phone trying to find a new hotel. They were all full or $300. This Gaslamp Hostel owner is anti-children, anti-family, and made me feel like I had caused my mom so much hassle :-( After we wasted an hour trying to check in and get our money back, I tried to cheer my mom up. I was hugging her while she sat on the phone with hotels.com. I told her I could sleep in the car so she would not have to spend more money or be more stressed, but my mom said it's not safe to sleep in the car, and she didn't know where we could park to do that anyway. My mom was crying when we left. We ended up sleeping in a gross motel smoking room. I saw a bug on the table when we walked in. The owner of this cheap San Diego hotel is not a human being. All the next day, my mom was depressed and sad. This occurrence really ruined our entire weekend. Gaslamp Hostel reviews San Diego. Worst San Diego hostel. Downtown San Diego hostel nightmare. NOT the best San Diego hostel--total nightmare. Disaster. Horror story. TripAdvisor Ga

San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina

Downtown San Diego
A pretty large resort, but with personal attention by the staff. Ground were well appointed. The rooms were very well appointed, beds comfortable, people serving us were pleasant. Would never hesitate to recommend the place. Can't wait to go back. My only complaints as follows - the one bartender at the Tequila Bar definitely wasn't into serving people with a smile. I asked him what beer he had available and he said ”some domestics and some imports”, turned and walked away. That was a turnoff. The other people who served us over the 3 nights were all fine, but not him. Also, we were on the 15th floor, yet surprisingly we could hear conversations down in the pool area, and especially the music playing. I found that as being a little odd. That is the only reason for dropping it down from 5 stars.
Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Gaslamp/Convention Center

Admittedly, we selected this hotel because it was the best price in the area and was very close to Petco Park. Since we were in San Diego to attend a game, it was an easy decision. Our room was fine but fairly small. The bathroom was quite large and very nice. (I would have settled for a slightly smaller bathroom with larger room.) Our friends' room was even smaller. The rooftop bar had a great view and was very nicely set up. The one big negative I had....It was advertised online and in the elevator that the Bistro offered drinks and food throughout the day. The reality was that, due to limited staffing, it was closed. Complimentary coffee was available there....if you were lucky enough to find it. We were later told to just wave down the front desk person to get more coffee. I understand that, due to Covid, places are short staffed. I let them know that they need to change their web site since we were expecting to find a place within the hotel to grab coffee and snacks or a few bites. Otherwise, we were able to walk to so much in the area.
Pendry San Diego

The hotel is located in the city center. In the gas lamp block, there are many red men and women every day. There are very few Chinese people. Many foreigners should come to vacation. After paying for Ctrip, they will have to pay the resort fee after check-in, which is about 40 dollars a night. But the other us grant, which is relatively resident, has a price/performance ratio and will not stay in this hotel. As a hotel, professionalism is a little lacking. The facilities are just like American hotels. Basically, all of them need to be equipped and there is no hot water bottle.
Horton Grand Hotel

Downtown San Diego
Horton is a very old hotel with a beautiful lobby, elegant blue and white design, and a string of lights on the trees in the yard. Stairs and elevators are old and new, and they are well protected. We booked two nights with two twin rooms with fireplaces, on the second floor, two squatting rooms but the layout was different. The room facilities and services are to be spit. The leaks in the bathtubs of our two rooms have bluish spots. The water in one room sink is only hot and the hot water is very hot. The fireplace in both rooms is not easy to use. One of them is completely can not open. Some of us have a fever, call the front desk 3 times and wait an hour to get a blanket. It is worth mentioning that most of the hotels in the West are very thin, the pillows are very high, and Horton only has blankets. The service staff did not smile and was not enthusiastic, and could not match the services of other hotels in our time. Regarding parking, the hotel does not have free parking and a one-way street. Paid parking is expensive, we parked in a nearby public car park, there are many homes around, we found the cheapest is $15 a day, opposite the cvs pharmacy. Regarding dining, the hotel does not include breakfast, and the breakfast is not cheap. Starbucks is on the corner of the street. It is about 5 minutes drive from the famous cafe 21. You can eat brunch.

This is my first time trying a youth hostel. It is quite satisfactory and tidier than domestic university dormitories. The service staff are enthusiastic. Everywhere in the city center, transportation is convenient. I met a young man from the Netherlands🇳🇱 by chance and had a great conversation!
Residence Inn San Diego Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter

Stayed for 6 nights in a 1 BR. Valet tried but they can get overwhelmed. Check-in went fine. Front desk people were friendly and helpful. Room was of good size but definitely needs a refresh. Fraying carpet, desk chair had rips, marred furniture. Only 1 remote for 2 TVs. The kitchen had pretty much everything you would need and worked. Breakfast is 6a-9a and was kept stocked by friendly staff. Good location, easy walk to the convention center. No laundry bags, good thing I brought my own. check out went OK. You will hear everything going on outside even on a high floor so bring ear plugs. Wi-Fi worked fine. Not enough plugs in the bedroom so bring a power strip. I would return.
