Pension la Perla

Perfect for My dad and I. Right in the center of old town right by the beautiful church!

We asked for a quiet room and got one facing a big shop's delivery bay so lots of scraping metal, loud noises early in the morning. One night there was a noisy pop-up bar in the same street. Guests coming in late at night are like a stampede. Even with earplugs it was very audible. You can hear everthing, no soundproofing at all. The so called luxury double room at a whopping 189€ per night not including breakfasts is smallish and worse for wear and tear especially the small bathroom. The water leaked from the toilet, the hook on which the hairdryer was hung up, broke off one night. It fell to the ground and woke us up. You have to pay at arrival and not traditionally when you check out...now we know why. On the plus side: friendly staff, rather clean and good location. But Donostia is small and very easy to walk around so most places are well located. Maybe it's because we're a bit older (fifties/sixties) that we are more sensitive to these things but it also means we've stayed at much better places at this price. In Bilbao we stayed in a very good, quiet 4 star hotel in the city centre at less than in La Perla so I would suggest you stay in Bilbao and take the bus to San Sebastian at 14€ for a 75 minute ride and save money for a much better and cheaper accommodation in Bilbao.

La Perla is a perfect place to stay while in San Sebastian. Comfy, clean rooms, affordable rates, discount on parking in nearby parking house. La Perla is located 1 minute from the cathedral in the middle of the city, 1 minute from a great food market, 5 minutes from La Concha Beach and 10 minutes walk from an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. I’ve visited San Sebastian 3 times during the last 35 years, and I wouldn’t dream of staying other places than in Pension La Perla; it’s my home here.

Easy online check-in, very central location, very clean, rooms cleaned as asked. Nice to have 2 kettles available, tho wld far rather this in my room. Grt to have fridge. Very friendly welcome but I think the map with pintxo bars recommendations is not needed and possibly ties in with their own interests?? Tbh the old town bars were rammed and not worth the bother. We found some great ones just over the bridge, far more chilled and check out cafeteria Thomas gros. For the price, I think breakfast shld be included. V small room and bathroom. Extremely hot and needed fan on in the night. Cld not avoid having windows open and that's the main issue :noise. Many people walking by, talking, shouting into the hours of 2, 3, 4 am then street cleaning lorries! Not ideal at all.

Very conveniently located. The room and bathroom were both very small - as expected in the city - but there was a fridge and kettle provided. It was pretty clean. No aircon and the balcony doors opened on to a fairly busy street. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Great location. Waking distance to the old town without being in the middle of it. Staff was very accommodating.

Pension la Perla is centrally located on a main pedestrian street that is a bit noisy at all hours. The rooms were very, very small, especially the bathrooms. The Pension was clean, but the rooms are close together and we could hear the other guests, despite them trying to be quite and considerate.

La Perla is given high ratings for a reason. The pension is in an exceptional location in San Sebastian--an easy walk to the beach and old town, and steps away from the cathedral. This is a pedestrian only area so there is no traffic noise. It's priced as it is for a reason. The rooms are clean but on the sp**** side. The negative in all of this is the courtyard view room description. If you like to be off the street side for quiet then be aware that the courtyard room is really a small bedroom with a transom window with privacy glass that opens only a few inches. if you crane your neck to look the view is of a building shaft overlooking hanging laundry. However, it is clean and the bed is comfortable.
