This is the kind of place you stay to get a few hours of sleep after getting drunk in one of TJ's many drinking establishments. The hotel is right in the middle of the red light district. It is convenient to many of the establishments that people come to TJ for. If you don't care about anything other than having a bed in a convenient location, this place is a good value and may work for you. It's not a place you'll want to spend any extra time at. That being said, let me explain more about this hotel. It looks nice from the outside, and is set back from the main road by a private parking lot which is guarded. The security of this place is good, which is much appreciated considering the seediness of the area. The staff here are good too, very efficient and friendly. Check in and check out are a breeze and the staff will help whenever they can. The public areas of the hotel have been recently spruced up and look nice. The price of the rooms are reasonable. Those are the only positives, though. The rooms are just nasty - smelly, noisy, dirty. There is almost no natural light - one window faces the interior hotel atrium, and two tiny windows located in the shower room open to an alleyway. There is no fresh air in the rooms and no ventilation, other than noisy wall unit A/C which is only recirculating the same stale air. This is probably why the rooms have a smell. The walls are thin so you'll be hearing a lot of noise (though just from the inside of the hotel - the hotel is set back enough from the street that you don't hear street noise). The rooms were not clean, with little stains here and there, paint peeling off, mold in the bathroom area etc. There are also almost no amenities - no fridge, hair dryer, tissue box. There is a small safe, however. My towels were damp, probably from not being dried enough in the laundry. This hotel can serve a purpose but just know what you are getting if you make a reservation.

One of the most unsafe properties I have ever stayed in, surrounded by addicts and drunkards and other criminals, it was absolutely terrible. The staff were rude and for the most part we’re unwilling to even acknowledge those people staying at the property. The one night I had twisted my ankle and had asked the night manager for Ice if he could open the room where are the ice machine was locked, and he said absolutely under no condition. He said walk over to the mini mart and buy a bag of ice, I said please I need ice for my ankle, he told me to go away and stop begging because it did not suit me. I was infuriated and Insulted buy this impudent little weasel of a man. I am sure he has cost you more money than whatever wage you may have ever paid him. As a business owner I understand the losses an employee like this can cost a company, I am sure your business plan is not to drive away your clientele by insulting them. I won’t ever stay there again.

We’ve stayed at BWs before and enjoyed our stay; the rooms were clean and the service was great. I can’t say the same about this BW. Upon arrival, we were passing a room that had its door opened and I immediately noticed the black dirty carpet. I hoped I would not find the same in our room but to my disappointment I found the same. The carpets were filthy with black stains and had not been vacuumed. My husband mentioned it to a cleaning lady but she only said they were working on it. (????). You don’t need to work on making an effort to provide clean rooms to your guests, you just do it! You could tell they did not clean the room and it smelled like they just sprayed air spray to mask the fact they did not clean, (although there website praises their cleaning standards). I didn’t say a thing because it would not have made a difference and all hotels were booked in San Diego. We would not have found another place to stay. On our final night, when we returned we found the bed thrown together. All three days a vacuum did not touch the carpet. The same debris found on day one was there until the end. It was definitely a busy hotel. I think they would care less to make any effort to improve the cleanliness based on a terrible review because they had the business. I would not recommend this BW. Disgusting!!!!!

The room was clean, quiet, friendly desk clerk, no smell or no bugs. The queen bed was actually a full size and there was a small space for hanging clothes. We were in San Ysidro for a week and it was just to small for our needs. I can recommend this for like a single person for the night but for us it was just to small. We did stay the one night.
