Ocean Pacific Lodge

Santa Cruz|1.02km from city center
We had an excellent stay! We live in Silicon Valley and go to Santa Cruz all the time. Occasionally we stay overnight. We have tried a few places and I loved Ocean Pacific Lodge. I booked a room with two king beds and didn't realize that it was two rooms with a king bed in each room as well as a tv in each room. The bathroom and sink area separated the two rooms. This was a delightful surprise as I had forgotten my earplugs and my husband's snoring usually has us in two separate rooms due to lack of sleep on my part! The hotel actually had cute little bags in the bedrooms with earplugs so I might have been okay. The toiletries could have been a little better with shampoo and conditioner. There were shower caps, soap, shower gel, lotion. The bathroom had a huge jacuzzi as well as a shower stall and toilet. The sink area was outside of the bathroom which is always convenient when he is showering and I am trying to put on makeup. The room(s) were clean and everything worked. It was quiet. The beds were super comfortable. We went to sleep with me watching what I wanted on my tv and him in the other room enjoying the whole bed to himself watching what he wanted on tv. It was a great stay and it will definitely be the place we go to each overnight getaway we do. Some people I read complained about it being slightly outdated and overpriced. That is ANY coastal town for the most part. You are going to pay for the location. Santa Cruz is full of motels and inns. Everything is overpiced and for the most part, everything looks like it needs a major facelift. Ocean Pacific Lodge is in a fantastic location as it's a short walk to the wharf and boardwalk and a short walk downtown. You are in a good middle place that feels safe. It's easy to find and to get in and out of. Highly recommend.

Don’t ever pay more than $100 for this hotel. The photos online make the place seem simple and modern, and while I can tell they tried with some furniture upgrades (a bathroom mirror with integrated lighting, a desk with power and USB outlets), the building and rooms are very old, dirty, and have thin walls. The night we stayed the prices were listed at $360. Combined with the photos we saw online, we thought we were getting a decent place near downtown Santa Cruz, but we were in complete disbelief when we got the keys to our room. First... the room was just plain dark. There was no main lighting and the 1 light switch by the door didn’t work. No wonder because despite the room being pretty large, it had next to no furniture and no lights except for the 2 lamps by the bed. 1 of the 2 didn’t work. So we had 1 bathroom light and 1 bed light working. In hindsight that might have been intentional because there were dents, plastered holes in the walls, and even a cracked doorframe which was only visible from the inside with sunlight. It also didn’t help they had several rowdy groups checked in as well who were partying though the night. The walls are thin. You can hear the balcony doors sliding and their voices, music, etc. And when they let their door slam shut, it really reverberates through to the floor. I get the feeling this is the type of crowd they usually get here. Which isn’t the fault of the hotel itself but when paired with poor noise insulation, it’s surprising they don’t have cops over every night. The bed had clean sheets. That’s 1 good thing in their favor. And the receptionists we did talk to were friendly and tried to help, but management would only allow a partial refund and were not available to address the issue in person. Even with the partial refund we were still paying over $200 in total. The place is definitely not worth the price tag and I hope no one ever comes here because even if they’re a decent budget hotel, any hotel that runs a scam and marks up the prices that high and claims a quality they cannot offer doesn’t deserve to book anyone.

Never had to write this bad of a review. Terrible experience for the what I spent on. First front reception impression was bad. 2 receptionists, one on the phone helping a lady with an issue. She seemed very stressed. The gentleman helping the rest of us making a line. When it was my turn, my card wouldnt go through. When the lady receptionist was done with the call she seemed like she was about to get a mental breakdown. He then decided to try my card on her side and was successfully processed. He didn’t explain or gave me any instructions about the key. Key needed to work the elevators and power in the rooms I had to figure it out on my own. He Didn’t offer or explained parking, I went back after we unloaded our stuff drove around and found out there was no place to park. The receptionist pretty much just processed my card. I stayed 3 nights and no one went into my room to take trash or pick up the dirty towels. Only thing they did was put a set of clean towels the night before my check out day and that’s about it. I was given an accessible room. I did not ask for one. A light on a night stand were unplugged. Found multiple lotto tickets inside the pull out bed. Toilet paper handle was broken. By the way…..what kind of bar closes at 8? The bartender didn’t seem professional or welcoming. When checking out I was asked how I wanted my receipt. On paper or email. I told her I rather get an email. I checked out around 8am and it’s 435pm and I haven’t received my email. The only people I will say were amazing at their job were the valet guys. They were friendly, helpful and did their job.

Great location, the newest hotel near boardwalk. Parking is extra ($20 currently), but at least it is in a secure gated basement. Great clean rooms, front desk staff was super helpful. Would come back again!

The front desk staff are very proactive, kind, and extremely responsive. Their customer service is outstanding. They went above and beyond to help me enjoy my stay. The hotel amenities are exactly what I was looking for. It’s a nice place to stay with the family because of updated kitchen and cleanliness.

Great location, very close to the sea. Shopping is convenient, it is a good location with culture and scenery. Looking forward to the future and the opportunity to stay again. The Chinese food downstairs is good... There are homeless people nearby, so you have to pay attention to children.
