Hotel Metropole

This was one of our favorite hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The location was perfect-very walkable, but still quiet. The hotel staff went out of their way to make us feel at home.

The Hotel Metropole"s location is perfect. Near to railway station..easily accessed via train from Milan Just in walking distance to Portofino Has private beach, and Excellent Seaview. Hotel staff is very friendly Hotel rooms are clean and well equipped.

Hotel Metropole offers a comfortable stay when choosing to come to this beautiful part of Italy. It offers a resort experience that makes it hard to leave and explore the city and surrounding communities. Featuring dining, waterfront lounging, swimming, including an indoor saltwater pool, a spa, gym and wellness center, private parking, an EV charging station, plus an extensive breakfast buffet, bar and fine restaurant. The hotel offers a full or half-board rate. In 5 visits I’ve stayed in both the single and double rooms with a patio overlooking the lush gardens and the sea view. Both have suit presses, slippers, bath amenities, a desk and noise-minimizing double patio doors, though the lower floor single is next to the housekeeper station, and the double rooms above reception are quieter. It is on the main road of Via Pagana which does see traffic during the day. I’ve always liked having the hotel front desk staff acknowledging my presence and, along with the housekeeping staff is very friendly. Since I usually stay for a week and am solo, this is important for me. look forward to this. This year I can’t say the same for the wait staff, who gave perfunctory service absent any friendly connection to us guests during the week. I’m hoping this is a one-off and next year will return to past years when we knew each other’s names and exchanged pleasantries.

Great hotel in a very picturesque little town that is not at all as busy as neighboring Portofino. Hotel has great gardens, pool and water access. The breakfast buffet is all encompassing and a dinner meal eaten at the hotel was delicious. The hotel is minutes away from the town center and the ferry.

I have mixed feelings about my experience at this property . The location is great - with beach club access and stunning views, it's hard to beat. The property itself is also quite nice, with attractive landscaping and a charming ambiance. However, the hotel is in dire need of an upgrade. The rooms, furniture, and bathrooms are all quite old and worn-down, with an unpleasant odor that was hard to ignore. Additionally, the carpet in the hallways was dirty and disgusting. The breakfast left a lot to be desired - the selection was quite limited and the quality of the food was not up to par with what I would expect.

On our Genova & Liguria Levante rail trip we made Santa Margherita Ligure our base. Again, aiming for hotel in easy walking distance to the train station we were welcomed by the Metropole. Run by the Ciana family since the start in 1897 there still this feeling of personal attention. We got one of two junior suites (larger rooms) in the villa Porticciolo, with stunning views of the bay. New, soundproof windows and a new bathroom – we opted for a shower for more space – and a working heating made our room comfortable. – Pre-season being a cold experience at some waterfront hotels. The garden grounds needed some warmer days an a bit more grooming to be fully appreciated but the view from the terrace was already great. We enjoyed two great in house dinners – eager to explore as many of their regional pastas as possible we asked for expert advice and split portions and were served with friendly elegance. Liguria is not spaghetti or pizza territory – but the marriage of sea and garden creates some flavors. Here the green from the Italian tricolor dominates the red! We enjoyed our stay – thank you!

Hotel Metropole is one of the best in all of Italy! My wife and I returned for the 3rd straight year in a row (all the way from San Diego, California, U.S.) because of the incredible beauty of the hotel and manicured landscape, fitness spa for my wife, spectacular location on the Mediterranean Sea, wonderful hotel restaurant, and of course the very friendly hotel management and staff who always treats us as if family and the hotel always accommodates our request for a special nostalgic room during our stay! We had a mosquito problem inside our room. Complained to the front desk and we were giving a upgrade and a perfect room. The lady at the front desk was excellent.
