I had a mixed experience staying at Hotel Carmel in Santa Monica.
While the location is convenient and the staff are friendly and responsive, there were several issues with the room that affected our stay. Essential in-room amenities such as the TV and coffee machine were not functioning as expected. After reporting this, the staff did arrange a room change, which we appreciated. However, the replacement room still had problems — the phone service was not working, and the coffee machine had noticeable coffee/tea residue, which raised concerns about cleanliness.
More generally, the hotel’s facilities feel quite dated, and the overall level of cleanliness could be improved.
That said, the staff did make genuine efforts to address the issues, which we valued. With better maintenance and attention to basic room standards, the guest experience could be significantly improved.
