Hotel Palacio del Mar

Hotel Palacio del Mar

Santander|2.17km from city center
Having stayed six times at this hotel dating back to 2015 we decided to stay again as we wished to be near Sardinero. We have not experienced any of the issues identified by previous reviewers in any of these visits, in fact quite the opposite, the staff were welcoming and the rooms were in decent shape and always large. The price was high but for the luxury of a senior suite I was prepared to pay over the odds. On arrival we were told that no senior suites were available and we had been upgraded to the Imperial Suite. Sounds good, but here the good news ended Issue 1 the whirlpool bath didn’t work. Reported to reception and was quickly attended by the maintenance man who after breaking the tile to access the motor reset fixed the problem! Issue solved - nope. It lasted 20 minutes and then tripped all the electric. On reporting to reception the switch was reset but no whirlpool bath. Ok, we’re not here for the bath and having been offered a move the next day at 12 noon we decided to stick with the room as otherwise it appeared ok. Issue 2, the air conditioner sounded like a jet engine. It wasn’t so warm anyway so we tolerated this. Issue 3, at around 5 am it became clear there was multiple pigeons roosting in the roof space above the bed therefore couldn’t sleep until they stopped making noise. Should have moved but we are quite tolerant. Issue 4, around noon time the noise from the AC was so load we had to trip the electric breaker to stop it. Again we should have moved. Issue 5, on night 2 we were again awake for a significant period because of the lift continually moving even in the middle of the night. Issue 6, on night 3 again the lift was not moving up and down almost constantly. This seems to be the overnight cleaner moving items to the storeroom, and guess where this is, next to our room 601. I politely asked receptionist to ask the cleaner to stop and she said he was going home now so it would be ok. She couldn’t move us as there were no other rooms available. On approaching the hotel director the next morning she was aware of all the issues even knowing that the lift was noisy and kept people from sleeping. I was offered a free breakfast which I refused purely because there is no soap in the toilets and this is being used by waiters and chefs to prepare and serve food. After much argument I was told they would refund me the last night stay, still not received it though. All bored by now no doubt. This hotel had deteriorated badly in the 7 years we have visited. There are so many easy fixes to make it better but nobody seems to care. Lights don’t work - replace bulbs AC noisy - stop it vibrating Bath doesn’t work - either replace the motor or borrow from another room given the Imperial suite is the best room in the house Lift - get an engineer Noise - stop the cleaner working all night making noise No soap - buy soap The list is endless, we won’t be back and I wouldn’t recommend anyone else does either. Hotel Bed4U Santander

Brand new structure (opened at the end of July 2022) in a suburban area near the busy Santander ring roads. Spacious, colorful and very pleasant common areas, friendly and welcoming staff even if the very young age betrays on occasion the lack of experience. Room not very spacious and rather basic with the idea, as scenic as it is uncomfortable, of the shower in the center of the room and only the toilet in a very small separate space. Going to the bathroom you can experience the same experience as astronauts in a Soyuz. Good soundproofing but occasionally a few sirens are heard. The rest, however, was perfect and the beds were also comfortable. It was difficult to find it despite google: the entrance is in a secondary street where, however, there is no sign; it would be enough to add an indication to signal the entrance. We did three laps (of the ring roads and holy navigator!) Before figuring out where the entrance was. There is also a bus stop just a stone's throw away. Free private parking around and under the structure but I don't know if there is enough space for all guests. Very problematic air conditioning: there are thermostats in the room but they do not work or are not enabled, so the air is managed room x room by a panel at the reception to which we had to ask three times to turn it on, then lower it and finally turn it off x night because noisy and annoying given the small size of the room. Very negative We didn't try the breakfast but all in all it seemed like a good point of reference for a stop & go near the airport where actually there are not many alternatives in Santander while I would not recommend it to anyone visiting the city. Surely the young management has some points for improvement but the structure is of a good standard

Our experience at Centersuite Santander was a pleasure from start to finish. We do not speak Spanish (we are trying to learn), and Yolanda who checked us in speaks no English. Using Google Translate, Yolanda gave us a very comprehensive guide to the hotel and the features in our room. We stayed in the Reina Victoria, one of only five rooms in the hotel. The hotel is on the first floor of a building in the main street through the town, and the Victoria room is at the back of the building. Despite the location, the room was very quiet. The bed (two twins pushed together) was very comfortable and the room was well equipped with a safe, fridge, microwave, kettle and coffee machine. The widescreen tv comes equipped with Netflix included. The bathroom is spacious with a rainfall shower in a large wet room section of the room. The only negative is the toiletries. One dispenser that serves as soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. It feels like glue on your hair. Bring your own hair products. The hotel is a fifteen minute walk from the bus station, and has lots of bars and restaurants nearby. There are also several mini-markets and lots of cafes. We would definitely stay here again. Checkout is a respectable 12pm. I don’t think you could leave your bags here until your flight (not an issue with our 2pm flight), as the desk is unmanned through most of the day and it’s not possible to enter the building without a key, however there are lots of lockers at the bus station.

BAD EXPERIENCE. They have not sent me directly to the HOSPITAL because the stars have aligned. I will tell you about my fateful experience. We arrived at the hotel last night, July 30, and the moment of check-in with the girl who attended us was good, because she explained many things to us. We asked her if there was lactose-free milk in the cafeteria (since I'm ALLERGIC) she told me yes and that they had all kinds of milk (lactose-free, soya...). On the morning of the 31st, we went down for breakfast, and after waiting, I'm not exaggerating, 15 minutes for two coffees, my partner ordered a normal one and another LACTOSE-FREE, because as I said, I'm allergic. The waiter must be that he does not know what lactose-free milk is, and has decided to put SKIMMED milk, (it must be that it is Skimmed because he thinks it does not contain lactose). I was outside, at the tables that they have at the entrance of the hotel, and I have not realized what happened, but my partner who was ordering at the bar, and is usually very aware of this (because it causes anaphylactic shock to a allergic person can be life-threatening) he realized and quickly told the waiter that this was not lactose-free milk and the waiter replied: it is skimmed. Anyway, I had to ask the girl at the reception (this time it was different) and I asked her for a claim form. The girl tells me that her partner must not have understood the meaning of lactose-free, but that he did not do it with bad intentions. I have explained to him that I do not doubt that he did it on purpose, but that a mistake like this in a person who cannot take LACTOSE can put his life in danger. I don't pay 90 euros for a hotel for one night and 9 euros for a breakfast that they couldn't even give me lactose-free milk. SHAMEFUL What happened today at the San Millán hotel. NOT RECOMMENDABLE.

Every minute detail of these suites is ensured to make your stay as cozy and pleasant as possible. The room was gorgeous and reasonably clean, overlooking downward into the bay and featuring every apparel for those of us who value autonomy —from hair-drier to corkscrew to Netflix, together with a couple of beds, a sofa and a dining table. What struck me was the building, a very old but heavily remodelled three-storied house with state-of-the-art technology decor: all of which comes across as quaint and charming. Location's quite perfect, very close to the old Tetuán district and in doable walking distance to city centre and Sardinero. In any event the receptionists were always very kind and helpful! Last but not least, these luxurious suites are absurdly affordable for the amount of care and work that has been put into them. I dare say there is nothing that comes close in the whole of Santander for the price range. Whether you'll be coming on your own, single or with your family (4 people max.) you'll be sure to be delighted. Just make sure not to set the room on fire!

El Sardinero Beach
Nice ride through the country north east loop, to Santander, avoiding the motorway. Easy to find the Hotel near the beach, though you have to take a second right to come back to the hotel. Parked outside the hotel, no problem. Reception staff were excellent and very helpful. It is a modern Hotel and the room was good. Excellent access to the beach, bars and supermacado. Far better than average breakfast, with a very nice member of waiting staff. Very good.

Lovely hotel, very well located in Santander with everything in walking distance. Immaculately clean, very nice rooms especially the superior doubles and the staff at reception were very helpful. There is a really nice breakfast room and a small bar, with a lovely outside area of seating. Unfortunately the aircon was off for the whole hotel (broken or switched off we didn't quite get to the bottom off) for the full stay and it was unseasonably very hot especially for the upper floors that caught the sun. To be fair we were compensated with a price reduction. Take care if you catch a taxi from the airport (c.E20) as we were all initially delivered to the wrong location as there are other hotels with similar names. Make sure you give the taxi driver a clear note of the name & full address. Overall a nice stay and we would go there again.

Absolutely fantastic hotel. From the moment we checked in every member of staff were really friendly. The rooms were cleaned and beds made when we returned from our day's out. While we were there there was work going on in the ****** next door but we were never disturbed by any sound. Would definitely recommend staying here
Silken Coliseum

Ticks all of the boxes. Location, secure underground car park on site, reasonable rate, very friendly staff, excellent clean and comfortable rooms. We didn’t look at so many other options when looking for an overnight stay (we were on our last night of 17 in our camper van). Silken Coliseum jumped out, looked like it was what we needed… and it was! We had lunch in the restaurant as it was a little too hot to go for a wander. It was excellent, as was the hostess. Bit of a language barrier as our Spanish is limited. But the food was as good as we had eaten all trip.
