My fiancee and I needed a place to stay for my father's funeral and I really wanted an escape from reality. Boy, did this hotel meet that expectation. Our room had a beautiful view. It truly made me feel like I was a world away from everyone else. The staff was welcoming and I felt so comfortable during our stay. Due to COVID-19 a lot of the amenities weren't available, but the room itself was enough for me to make this glowing review. The king size bed was something I found myself looking forward to while I was envisioning where I would unwind after my long days. Will definitely be working out how to come up here to stay again. I have a lot of family up in Santa Cruz and will be working out how to stay up here in the near future. This place was that great! Thank you to this location for giving me a place to feel safe during a very difficult weekend.

I landed here because I had a reservation at another Santa Cruz hotel in the marriot family, Hotel Paradox, When I arrived there I found out all the windows were sealed shut and none would even rack open to admit air, which won't work for me. The nice young man at the desk did me a huge favor by letting me out of the reservation (they were 100% booked so Im sure they sold the room) and recommended we go to this one. He even got on the phone and made a reservation for me, which was super nice. I wish we could have had a longer conversation about my room preferences--he got me a king room at a rate of $200 a night, which was lower than it was showing on line. But that last king room left turned out to be facing the car wash next door and still only had one window that would admit a tiny bit of air and crack open maybe an inch. I wold have happily paid $20-$30 more to get one of the nice rooms in the back with a balcony facing the creek--wish the guy would have told me about those. they were less than the price I had reserved at the hotel paradox, but the man seemed to assume I wanted the cheapest deal possible so put me in the last remaining standard king. I wouldn't recommend this room. If you look off in the distance you see the trees, but if you open the window at all or go near it you see a bunch of workmen noisily cleaning cars. Given my reasons for leaving the Hotel Paradox (non opening windows), one of the many rooms they had here with sliding doors that open all the way would have been the obvious best place for me. But once we were here and checked in my husband didn't want to pack up again and move to a better room, so we're stuck here for 2 nights. I just became a marriot gold member and hoped they might have offered me an upgrade since that is supposed to be a part of the deal, but instead here I am facing the car wash with no upgrade in sight. The other issue is it is not a good idea to suggest to someone with a santa cruz reservation that they start in scotts valley--its pretty but in the middle of nowhere and there is nothing to do anywhere close.

I just completed a 5 day stay at this Best Western. I picked it because the photos made it look a little more modern and cleaner than most alternatives and the price was decent for the area. And, it was OK. The room was 40 degrees when we opened the door, but the heater took care of that over a couple of hours. Given how cold it was, it seems reasonable to assume that the room was vacant for 24 hours. The room was large, with a decent king bed, a couch, a kitchen area with a coffee maker, a fridge, microwave. There is a small desk, and a basin book with a sink and a hairdryer. Positives Decent location within walking distance of food and grocery options. Reasonably priced Negatives. The couch had a number of suspicious stains that looked more human than food based in origin. So sitting on it was not on the agenda. The towel holder fell off the wall in the basin area, as did one of the handles on the drawers. The bathroom was very dated and the toilet was about 10 inches lower than 'normal' it worked, but it was odd. There were 2 medium sized towels and a couple of hand towels which were adequate Covid era, there is no service to the rooms. So coffee isn't restocked you have to go ask for it at reception (they only had decaf). There is nothing in the room other than described above, so if you were looking for cutlery or a bottle opener, you are going to have to bring your own. The lady who checked me in told me about breakfast, but that was not accurate. There is no breakfast served in Covid era. How she got that wrong I have no idea. The hotel seems to be bustling with blue collar business guests, lots of work vehicles from tree and road maintenance type industries. These guys tend to leave early in the morning, so depending on how you feel about being awakened by diesel trucks at 5:30am it might affect your stay. There is a homeless shelter nearby and so there are various folks wandering around the immediate area. Someone tried to open the room door one night at 4am. I never found out who or why, but the doors are pretty robust so security is actually decent. So there you have it. The hotel is Ok. Its older and scruffier than the photos make out, but its basically fine. Just don't sit on the couch.
