The Sukhothai Shanghai

My birthday stay at The Sukhothai Shanghai was an absolute delight from start to finish, and I simply have to gush about it! The location is incredibly convenient. The hotel is directly connected to the Taikoo Li shopping mall, so you can shop to your heart's content without worrying about the weather. The subway station is just a three-minute walk away, and it's easy to hail a taxi right outside. Plus, there's an abundance of restaurants nearby, making dining out effortless. The service was exceptionally thoughtful and warm. The hotel proactively called me the day before to confirm my arrival time. A special shout-out to Joy from Guest Relations – knowing it was for my birthday, she went above and beyond by decorating the room beautifully and even upgraded us to a suite. During check-in, she patiently explained all the room amenities and was incredibly responsive to any requests we had. The attention to detail was impeccable. The upgraded suite was spacious, and the decor perfectly matched my taste. The hotel's signature scent is subtle and pleasant, immediately creating a sense of relaxation and comfort as soon as I stepped in. The bathroom was uncommonly large for a hotel in this price range, and the toiletries felt gentle and soothing. I had seen some negative reviews about the breakfast, but my experience showed that it has clearly been improved and optimized. The almond croissant was deliciously flaky, and the Tom Yum Goong noodle soup was warming and authentic. The hotel's Thai restaurant serves authentic cuisine, and guests even get an 8.8% discount. Unfortunately, my stay was too short, and I was genuinely sad to check out. I had such a memorable and wonderful birthday here. I will definitely choose The Sukhothai again the next time I visit Shanghai.

I was very satisfied with my stay this time. The guest relations小姐 (Miss) proactively called to ask about my check-in. They even upgraded my room type and showed us to the room, explaining everything. The concierge delivered our luggage very quickly, and the service staff were all very attentive. I'll definitely stay at The Sukhothai again next time. The location is also excellent! Overall, it's great value for money.

Amenities: Nespresso machine Cleanliness: The cleanliness was meticulously maintained. During turn-down service, they even dried the bathroom surfaces, replaced all towels, and left a goodnight tea. Ambiance: The environment is beautiful with great design. Service: The front desk staff and all other staff members were incredibly friendly and provided excellent service.

I've stayed at this hotel several times. What really draws me in is its prime location, the stylish room decor, and the peaceful ambiance despite being in a bustling area. **Amenities:** I hope the air conditioning can be checked. It made a buzzing sound at night, which was disruptive. **Cleanliness:** The cleaning staff did a very thorough job. **Environment:** The environment has a very zen-like feel, perfect for relaxation. **Service:** The service was quite good. I hope they can add a delivery robot in the future.

I wouldn't recommend using their laundry service here. My knit shirt got a hole in it on the first day, my pants weren't clean on the second, and on the third day, when I was checking out, my clothes still weren't back, so they had to mail them to me. When my clothes were damaged, the duty manager came up to talk, and their entire attitude was, 'This is a housekeeping issue, nothing to do with us. I can only ask housekeeping how they'll handle it, and once they confirm, I can give you an answer.' So, I'm doing my laundry at The Sukhothai, paying The Sukhothai's laundry prices, and it turns out they're outsourcing it to an unrelated third party? I might as well have gone to a reputable laundry service myself.

Standard rooms start from a spacious 46 sqm, with large floor-to-ceiling windows for excellent natural light. Amenities include organic Australian aromatherapy brand Grown Alchemist, Dyson hairdryers, Sonos/Marshall speakers, and complimentary soft drinks in the mini-bar for the first round. Thoughtful touches like aromatherapy diffusers and bedtime ginger tea are delightful. The overall vibe is that of a 'hidden oasis in the city center' – not ostentatious, but effortlessly sophisticated. 3. **Impressive Dining & Facilities:** La Scala Italian restaurant has received a Michelin Plate, and URBAN Thai restaurant has a solid reputation. The breakfast offers unique Thai snacks like Tom Yum Wontons, Thai Milk Tea, and Mango Sticky Rice. The underground 25-meter heated infinity pool with a starry ceiling is rarely crowded and perfect for photos. The Thai SPA, with its essential oils, receives many positive reviews. 4. **Service Varies (Generally Good):** Most guests find the staff polite and discreet. If you note an anniversary or birthday in advance, you'll likely receive decorations or a room upgrade. Guests often receive a small elephant souvenir upon check-out, and children's amenities are proactively provided for families. ⚠️ **Points to Consider (Avoid Pitfalls):** 1. **Soundproofing Can Be Hit or Miss:** Some rooms in the corridors or facing Weihai Road might pick up sounds of opening doors or traffic. For light sleepers, it's advisable to request a quiet, higher-floor room away from corridor ends when booking. 2. **Breakfast Not Overly Lavish:** It's a refined offering with fewer hot Chinese dishes and no traditional local breakfast items (like shengjianbao or youtiao). If you're looking for a wide variety, you might prefer to dine at Taikoo Hui. 3. **Understated Entrance:** The entrance is tucked away on a small road, making it easy to miss on your first visit. The lobby also isn't as grand as traditional five-star hotels. Those who prioritize pomp and circumstance might find it 'not luxurious enough.' 4. **Occasional Staff Shortages During Peak Season:** This can lead to slower service at the front desk or a perfunctory turndown service. However, these are rare occurrences.

I brought my family to Shanghai for a few days at the start of the summer vacation, and we stayed at The Sukhothai. The location is excellent, and we could also visit the LV Cruise Ship nearby, enjoying good food and drinks, which was very pleasant. I left some items in the room after checking out, and the hotel staff kindly called me to arrange for them to be couriered back. Overall, it was a great experience.

Welcome fruit: Three excellent apples, they tasted great! 👍 First round of in-room soft drinks, beer, coffee, and tea: The minibar had a great selection, including oolong tea, milk, coconut water, sparkling water, and more. The first round was complimentary every day. Service: The service was exceptional. They upgraded our room for free and thoughtfully asked if a room at the end of the hall was acceptable. Housekeeping service was also very prompt. Great location, great room, comfortable bedding, and nice-smelling toiletries.
