Tucked away in one of the city’s historic alleyways, Shanghai Qianjing Xiaozhu Boutique Hotel (Shanghai The scenery hotel) gives you a real taste of local life, laundry lines, clinking mahjong tiles, and all. You’re just a short walk from the Bund and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, but the moment you duck into the alley, you’re in a different world. To reach the entrance or back door, you’ll stroll past hanging laundry, family chatter, and maybe a few pairs of underwear dancing in the breeze. Authentic? Absolutely. The interior channels vintage Shanghai style, with classic decor that gives you those 1930s vibes, without the 5 star price tag. Think retro charm, not luxury splurge. The hotel staff? Superstars. Friendly, helpful, and full of local tips. They gave us great suggestions on where to go and eat during our whirlwind 2 day stay in the city. Also, shoutout for letting us store our luggage after checkout until our evening flight, lifesavers. If you’re cool with a bit of local flavor and want a budget stay with character and convenience, this place is a winner. Note: 5-10min walk to People’s park Metro station Exit 15 depending on your speed.

The service was great, the hotel staff helped us with our luggages through the alleys to the main road. The hotel staff was also kind to upgrade us to a bigger room when he saw that we had big luggages with us. We are very grateful for that. One qualm that we had was the ventilation in the room. The room reeked of cigarette smell. For those we are sensitive to cigarette smell may want to reconsider. Although it was stated as a “non-smoking room”, it still smell of cigarettes. Though the staff did try to help by offering sprays etc, but it still lingers. It may be because of the central ventilation when others secretly smoke in their rooms? Though the staff said it’s beyond their control, but I thought that they could increase their enforcement and punishment if found smoking so as to deter people from doing so and give a more conducive and comfortable environment for other guests who do not smoke or is sensitive to cigarettes smell to properly rest and decompress after a long day out.
