I love this hotel 100% strategic place , just walk in front of your hotel you already find subway Nanjing East rd station exit 4 A&B, infront of you hotel also minisoland , Lawson, easy to find any restaurant you want to eat. The service was so warm from bell boys till the receptions ,even the room service they all did great job The bed was double bed so felt comfort even sleep 2 person in bed, the swimming pools was amazing must try so luxury changing room ( the swimming pool is in 5 th floor) They have fun deal photo with old shanghai vibe with full make up, qibao , and professional photographer only RMB 198 and they give you 1 picture but if you like other pose you can add 1 picture add RMB 100 , all dress and accesories are brand new and they used the business center near lobby to make up and take you picture in 6th floor and lobby. Just walk to right side of hotel you Will find delicious bao , delicious hotpot, yummy cookies and chocolate plus 1 pizza resto Miss Sheila Jin from business center did great service, she treat you with warm heart and friendly , she explain all things about the photos package and serve us so great, so my daughter have beautiful photoshoot , the photos all great amazing. Thanks Grand Central Hotel , Will back again if i visit shanghai again

I am a foreigner staying in Shanghai. I can speak Chinese, but the staff had no problems speaking English. The most important part of my stay was that the air conditioning was extremely good, because it was very hot outside. Besides that, the room was very clean, the hallways and public spaces were very well-maintained, and the staff held a package sent to me by a family member ahead of my arrival. I had no problems with the stay at all.

Hello! From August 13, 2018, to May 28, 2026, here I am again at the Grand Hotel Shanghai! All the furnishings and facilities are just as I remember them, and the service is as warm as ever. The only things that hint at the passage of time are the slightly worn leather on the desk and the somewhat aged bathroom fixtures; otherwise, everything is absolutely perfect! It boasts a fantastic location, incredibly warm service, and delicious, tasty breakfasts – especially that authentic bowl of Lanzhou pulled noodles 🍜. And the view of Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street right outside the window brings back so many memories; it truly feels like coming home. It's such a wonderful feeling! I know for next time, whenever that may be, I'll definitely choose it again. 🥰

If I can give 0/5 I would have selected it. Overall, my stay was disappointing due to the hotel’s handling of maintenance issues and customer service. After the first night, I noticed that the overhead shower kept dripping even though I was only using the handheld shower. I reported the issue early on the morning of Day 2, but despite staying until Day 6, the problem was never resolved. Despite reporting the problem on the morning of Day 2, there was no follow-up or update from the team. What disappointed me the most was how the issue was handled. After inspecting the room again, one staff manager suggested that the dripping was caused by us using the overhead shower, which was incorrect as we had only been using the handheld shower. They also mentioned that they would see what they could do to resolve the issue, but no repair was ever carried out and I received no further updates. On Day 5, the manager repeatedly told me that their team had inspected the bathroom for 1 minute and could not find any problem. This made me feel as though I was simply finding fault with the room rather than raising a genuine concern. Instead of acknowledging my feedback and investigating further, the responses I received felt defensive and seemed to shift the blame back to the guest. The explanations I received were also inconsistent. One manager mentioned that the hotel has both old and new facilities, which left me wondering why guests paying the same room rate receive rooms with different facilities and conditions. Another manager simply told me that water dripping from the shower is “normal,” which did not explain why the dripping continued throughout my stay. The management also kept insisting that I change rooms. However, I had already explained that I did not want the inconvenience of packing and moving halfway through my stay, especially when there was no guarantee that the new room would not have other issues. More importantly, changing my room would not solve the underlying maintenance problem—it would simply leave the unresolved issue for the next guest staying in that room. I expected the hotel to address the root cause instead of offering a temporary workaround. The air-conditioning also produced an occasional buzzing noise, which was quite disruptive, especially at night. Customer service at the front desk was another letdown. While waiting for my Didi, I wanted to speak to the manager regarding my unresolved concerns. The staff member told me to wait for her manager. As I saw my driver is arriving I raised my concern to the staff but never got back to me after speaking to the manager who was standing beside her. My driver had already arrived, and because of the delay, I was scolded by the driver. There was also an issue with my room card. When I returned to the hotel, the card no longer worked. The staff suggested it was probably because I had placed it near my phone. However, I had kept the card inside the hotel-provided card holder throughout my stay. When I asked how guests were expected to store the card to avoid this issue, I did not receive a clear answer and was simply told to “store it normally,” which did not address my question. On top of that, I also find strand of hairs on the table and bed. One reason that we do not want to change the room is because we have did one round of cleaning on day 1. Overall, while the hotel has potential, the lack of proper follow-up, inconsistent explanations, reluctance to address the root cause of reported issues, and poor customer service significantly affected my experience. I hope the management focuses on resolving guests’ concerns rather than explaining them away or offering temporary solutions.

Location is awesome! Just next to Nanjing pedestrian street! The hotel lobby looks huge and grand as well. Room and toilet size are fantastic too. This is easily the best hotel that we stayed in China. Only 1 small con is the bathroom got flooded as the cleaner did not remove the hair on a daily basis. We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. So we informed the cleaner and they cleaned it during the daily housekeeping.

Highly recommended for this hotel. Reception staff wasn’t as friendly, but the plus points are the bell boys at the entrance. They are extremely friendly and lovely to speak to. They help us travelling as a family so much on the luggages, sorting out of our TB luggage. They also help us sort out of transportation plans. Amazing help seriously. Esp Tom Tang, and another colleague of his i didn’t get his name, who is extremely tall. Already missed them back in my homeland. Rooms were clean. Housekeeping staff were super friendly as well. Hotel breakfast was acceptable but honestly you can just can takeaways easily. Location is great, shopping is nearby.

The lobby is nice, and breakfast is decent, plus the location is great. Other than that, there isn't much to praise. The facilities are quite old. I specifically chose this place because I needed to open a window for ventilation. If you don't mind sealed windows, there are plenty of better options nearby.

Although it's an older hotel, the facilities are incredibly well-maintained, and it's very clean. The environment is excellent, and the location is super convenient for getting to the Bund and Yu Garden. The lobby has an old-money vibe, full of classic Old Shanghai charm. The main highlight, though, is the exceptional service. My daughter and I had heavy luggage, and the staff at the entrance were incredibly enthusiastic and helped us carry it. While I was waiting to check in and having a drink at the lobby bar, the lobby manager was so warm and patiently answered all my questions about sightseeing and travel. Definitely recommended! I'll be staying here again next time.
