Metropolo YMCA Hotel, People's Square Shanghai

The room was incredibly comfortable and very clean. The location is excellent, with super convenient transportation – right outside you'll find a shopping mall and a subway station. The service, however, was just okay, not quite up to par with other hotels of similar type and standard.

Excellent, exceeded expectations! The front desk staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. The room was surprisingly spacious for this area. The bathroom with a bathtub was incredibly comfortable, and the shower had great water pressure, making for a refreshing wash. You can grab bottled water from the dispenser by the elevator on each floor, which is perfect for an introvert like me. The subway station is literally just around the corner to the right – it takes a minute or two to get in, which is amazing; I've never stayed in a hotel so close to a subway before. Getting a ride-share is also very convenient; you can just set the pickup location to the hotel or the Agricultural Bank next door. The cleaning lady was also very polite; whenever she saw us leaving, she'd immediately ask if she could clean, so I didn't even need to tell the front desk. The building itself is very historic and full of character, and I took many photos because I loved the style. From my room, I could even see the 'Three-piece set' (referring to Shanghai's iconic skyscrapers) in the distance. All in all, this hotel offers incredible value for money, and I'll definitely consider staying here again if I have the chance.

The room is spacious with a classic Old Shanghai feel. The location is convenient, the service is warm and friendly, and the night view is great.

The hotel's location is truly excellent, right next to the Grand World and super close to the subway station. You can even see the Lujiazui 'Three-piece Suit' from the window! I love the historical decor style. The room is spacious, clean, and tidy, and the amenities work well. There's also a self-service water dispenser in the hallway, which is very convenient. All in all, I'm very satisfied!

The hotel service was great, and the location was decent. However, in April, there was no air conditioning in the room, which made it a bit hot, so I had to ask for a fan. It was quite upsetting; out of all the hotels I've stayed at in China, this is the first one without AC. The staff said it wouldn't be available until after May because the weather in Shanghai is still cool. Yet, last December, both hotels I stayed at in Harbin had AC, even though it was winter. I won't be staying here again.
