Birkdale Guest House

Our 2nd visit to the Birkdale and wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else on the Island. Lesley and Colin are the perfect hosts and Sarah’s smile in the morning is a delight. Everywhere spotless. Lesley’s home made biscuits are gorgeous, and moreish. Nothing seems too much trouble for this trio. My wife had a different breakfast every morning but I stayed with the full English with fruit salad to start. The first morning we both had a standard size fruit salad, but then dropped to a small which didn’t look any smaller. My wife doesn’t eat strawberries and I don’t eat kiwi fruit. Not a problem put it on the form, and that’s what you will get. Unbelievable eye to detail. Well done all, you deserve all the great reviews you get and more. Hopefully see you soon.

Fantastic adults-only Guest house situated centrally in Shanklin and not too far from the promenade and shoreline. Superbly run by Leslie and Colin who have carefully considered all elements from tasteful, appropriate coastal decoration to quality furnishings, exceptional bedrooms and ensuites. Each guest room has more than adequate facilities for hot and cold beverages in the room, plenty of hanging and cupboard space, quality furnishings again and all very clean. Breakfasts are just fabulous - pre-booked the day before but a very wide choice and something for everyone. Freshly cooked with quality ingredients well presented, you’ll never leave hungry. It really is impossible to fault this wonderful guest house and we will be back. Praise to Colin and Leslie for providing such high standards and 5 star accommodation and friendly, approachable service.

By far the best B&B we've ever stayed in. The room was immaculate with so many extras like a fridge, fresh milk, spring water, homemade biscuits to compliment the tea & Coffee facilities. The toiletries were lovely along with large fluffy towels and a superb shower. The bed was comfy with quality pillows and linen. The room was decorated to a exceptionally high standard. The choice of breakfast was amazing and the quality of the food was outstanding. Lesley and Colin go above and beyond to make your stay extra special. Can't wait to return in May.

Myself and my dad have just stayed at the Birkdale for the IOW scooter weekend. The hosts of the Birkdale, Lesley and Colin, are absolutely fab! They go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. The twin room that we had was spotless and we loved the little extra touches such as the homemade biscuits and the fresh milk in the fridge. The breakfast here is incredible! So much to choose from (I was spoilt for choice every morning) and Sarah who works in the morning is a star. We loved our stay here that much that we re-booked for next years scooter weekend there and then! Thank you to everyone at the Birkdale for making our stay extra special! Lucy and Gordon Smith

Have been regular visitors since 2014. Hosts Lesley and Colin are second to none. Assisted by the lovely Sarah, a truly excellent team. The premises are spotless throughout providing private resident parking. Guest rooms are tastefully decorated being furnished to an extremely high standard. The owners have thought of every home comfort imaginable! Attention to detail is spot on. Room amenities include a refrigerator. Lesley's "home made" welcome cookies alone are not to be missed. Breakfast is as good as it gets even compared to a "top end" hotel. Hot choices cooked to order and perfection include locally sourced products. The IOW sausages are a must try! Good vegetarian options too. The oregano tomatoes are to die for! Location absolutely perfect being just one minute walk away from Shanklin Old Village which houses numerous pubs and restaurants catering for all budgets and tastes. The theatre is just minutes away on foot too! Have no hesitation to return! Came away with two bookings for 2024! The Birkdale - SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!

This is the place to go. I have stayed in a lot of hotels on the Isle of Wight since I started to visit. Lesley and Colin are wonderful they do every thing to make your stay wonderful. They have everything you can think of in the bedrooms including a fridge for fresh milk. The breakfast is out of this world Lesley does a great job. Every where is spotless clean. We got stuck getting from the train station to the hotel in the rain and Colin came to pick us up. They really are lovely people. We have been 3 times in two years. You will not be disappointed with The Birkdale.

Mrs Davies and I really like the Isle of Wight, we’ve been visiting since we first got married in 1989 and make the return journey as often as we can to mark our anniversary. We found the Birkdale in 2017 whilst doing a search for a place to stay with a difference, the four poster bed in the room we booked into grabbed our attention and we subsequently stayed and had a fabulous time. Time and tide turned and by the time we were looking at another stay we were all locked down, no travel, no IOW that year. This year however, all restrictions have been lifted, time to escape. We were more than pleased to find the four poster room in the Birkdale available and booked it without hesitation, ferry booked and away we were. The Birkdale has changed hands since 2017 but has managed to maintain the warm welcoming feeling that was present with the previous owners. Everything is spotlessly clean and well presented, tea, coffee & milk all replenished on request (fresh milk in a glass bottle! Real bonus) There’s a fridge in your room, two bottles of water in here along with the milk, again, glass bottles for the water so you refill them from the bowser in the entrance hall. Breakfast I here you ask, what about the breakfast? All very good, chosen the day before from a vast selection on the menu, freshly made fruit salad, home made natural yogurt followed by a full cooked or smoked salmon, the choices are yours. It’s worth mentioning the sausages here…. They are to be tasted to be believed, knock spots off supermarket sausages (I asked where they got them from so I could get some to take home) On the morning of our anniversary, at our table, a card and a bottle of Prosecco, this simply added to what was turning out to be a fabulous few days away. We had a wonderful weekend at the BIRKDALE, the hosts Lesley and Colin were so nice, nothing was too much trouble for them. The guest house was lovely and breakfast was excellent with so much choice. Would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future. Thank you Lesley and Colin

What a great place to stay - the best guest house we have ever stayed in. The house was spotlessly clean, our bedroom was beautifully decorated and the bed very comfortable. Lesley & Colin are perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them, even arranging the ferry bookings. We really appreciated the home made cookies, fresh milk & water in our bedroom fridge and all the toiletries which were provided. There was a wide selection of food offered for breakfast which was prepared to perfection - the fruit salad was amazing. The homely touches and attention to detail puts The Birkdale in a different league from other guest houses and it is really good value for money. We would recommend it to anyone wanting a stay on the Isle of Wight.
