Located in southeast Guangdong Province, Shantou is one of China’s five special economic zones and also an open port city.. The city has a humid subtropical climate with monsoonal influences. It is mild and humid all the year round, with plenty of sunshine. The annual average temperature is around 22°C. The hottest season of the year is from mid-July to early August, and the temperature is about 35°C. In winter the temperature is usually above 5°C. April, May, September and October are the best time to visit Shantou.
