40 years ago, Shenzhen was just a small fishing village, with only quiet coasts and quiet streets. Nowadays, it is one of the most exciting cities in China and is often referred to as "China's Silicon Valley". It is located in the south of China, close to Hong Kong. There are so many things to do here that you'll never run out. Walk around Huaqiangbei and take a look at the endless array of electronic products and trinkets. Stroll through Nantou Ancient Town or climb Lianhua Mountain to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
This area has all the best things! You will find shiny skyscrapers, shopping in Coco Park, and the best nightlife in this city. There are many subway lines passing through here, so it's very convenient to get around. Staying in a hotel might be a bit more expensive, but the location is well worth it.

Ideal for easy access to high-speed trains, with good transport links to the rest of the city.
My personal favorite - bit more chilled with beaches nearby and cool hangouts like OCT Harbor. Lots of tech companies around here, so you get great cafes and restaurants without the crazy CBD prices. Metro takes you downtown in no time.

First of all, let's talk about how to get there! Shenzhen's Bao'an Airport (SZX) is the main airport in Shenzhen. However, I often find it more cost-effective to fly to Hong Kong (HKG). Here's a warm tip: Some tourists can enjoy a 6-day visa-free stay to explore the Guangdong region - it's definitely worth a try!
If you came on a red-eye flight, don't worry - I've recommended two reliable hotels for you. I have stayed at both of these hotels. Their free airport transfer service and convenient facilities make guests who arrive late at night feel very comfortable.
Hotel Name | Price Start From | Distance from Airport | Facilities |
US$29 | Approximately 9.1 km | Gym, Parking, Priority Airport Pick-Up (Free), 24-Hour Front Desk, Luggage Storage, Cardroom, Restaurant, Priority Airport Drop-Off (Free), Taxi Booking Service, Car Rentals, Conference Room, Secretarial Services, Wi-Fi in Public Areas | |

Shenzhen is a large city, so the subway is the best way to get around. It is fast, easy to use and accessible to most scenic spots. For areas not covered by the subway, taking a taxi is a good option - just use a translation app to tell the driver your destination in Chinese. If you are exploring in a nearby park or by the seaside, shared bikes are also an interesting and convenient option!
Steps from upscale shops + Great for work trips → The St. Regis Shenzhen (Price from US$180)
Has a big kids’ waterpark area + Pool garden → InterContinental Shenzhen (Price from US$132)
Near the bay + Nice seaviews for couples → Urcove by Hyatt (Price from US$70)
