We spent a lovely, relaxing weekend in Sonoma and would definitely stay at the Sonoma Hotel again. Pluses: + charming decor + comfortable rooms and lobby + very reasonable prices + excellent location right on Sonoma Square + delicious, complimentary continental breakfast with assorted pastries, coffee and fresh juice + complimentary wine happy hour + the Girl & the Fig is located in the building. It has amazing food and a great bar. + friendly, accommodating staff and fellow patrons + lovely lobby excellent for rendezvous with our crew before dinner or after dinner to play cards or sip wine + our room had a small sofa and coffee table, which was really nice for getting together with friends to taste wine and play games. Minuses: - hot water on Saturday morning was hit-or-miss. My fellow travelers didn't experience it, but I took a less than perfect shower. - lacks some modern amenities, like an ice machine (necessary for our white wine purchases) - on the street parking, which was not a terrible problem for us, since we went out wine tasting during the day, but could be an issue if you want to stay in town and don't want to move your car every two hours. - no elevator. Not an issue for us, but it was an issue for some older travelers who were staying there. Like I said, it suited our needs very well and we'd definitely stay there again, but it may not be for everyone.

We loved the charm of this place. It had so much history and everyone who worked there was so kind. The place was also very clean and the location is fantastic. Would absolutely stay again. We arrived late due to issues with our rental car and everyone was very accommodating.
Response from Property: Thanks so much for the great review. We just finished a refresh of the rooms with new carpet, paint and curtains. So happy you enjoyed your stay.

This hotel is adorable, and could not be in a better location. Sitting quietly on a perfectly charming corner, right on the Sonoma Sq. When I checked in, the front desk person was very friendly and got me situated with ease. The room was small, but all that one would need traveling by myself. I had read that they served coffee and a continental breakfast, but that was not what I found. On my first morning, there was a coffee station set up in the lobby, but sadly not on the two following days. Not sure if they have room service, it was never discussed. I assume they have wifi, but I was never offered a code or any information, and I did not ask. I just used my phone as a hot spot. Overall a very cute property. Could be an amazing little boutique hotel, but somehow falls short of perfection.

Typical over priced Sonoma Hotel. Nothing special about this 1930’s hotel. No breakfast or parking. Small rooms with minimal amenities. Good location on the square, restaurant attached. Good bedding.

I visited the Sonoma Square to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. I did not want to drink at the pub and drive after so this hotel within walking distance was the perfect solution! This historical hotel is decorated with fine antiques and beautiful art. My room was very quiet and had Everything I needed. I forgot my iphone charger and was loaned one by the woman at the front desk. The proximity to the very beautiful Girl and The Fig bar and restaurant is ideal. Highly recommend!

I read several reviews for this property prior to booking and I was somewhat perplexed. Some loved it. Others, well, not so much. I, for one, thought it was exactly what I expected. What does this place have going for it? Two things in my opinion. Price and Location. First, Price. You can't beat it. It is inexpensive in comparison to other hotels in the same general area. Why? Well, first, it's an older property. It was built in the 1800's and to tell you the truth, though it has been upgraded here and there, it still holds on the charm of an aged property. Secondly, it doesnt boast a lot of amenities. And, as for me, that's ok. If I wanted amenities, I would have booked a hotel that was one, two, three times the price and spent an hour by the pool or rode the elevator up-and-down a couple of times. But, hey, I only wanted a place close to the restaurant we were having dinner at and the plaza where we wanted to walk around prior to turning in. As for amenities? Nice bed. Nice pillows. Hot water for a great shower (though it took a while to warm up). Second, Location. We are members of only one wine club. That's right. One. So, we travel to Sonoma to enjoy events and pick up our selections. This gives us a chance to get away and spend some time in Napa and Sonoma. Preferring Sonoma, we usually end up spending the early evening in and around the plaza. Some great restaurants here. El Dorado and La Salette to name two. So, knowing that we can go out to a great meal, have a drink or two, or a couple glasses of wine and then simply walk back to our hotel makes Sonoma Hotel a great option. And for the price....even more so. The staff are friendly. The room tidy. Don't expect four stars especially for the price point. Recognize that the charm of an antique hotel comes with some of the quirkiness of an antique. The walls are thinner than a newer property so there is some noise issues from the street and maybe a neighbor in the next room, but we found it to be a very good option for the price, particularly because we booked relatively last minute. Thank you Sonoma Hotel. We slept well and were satisfied.

The hotel is old, beautiful and very characteristic. Antique furniture is in the rooms and along the hallways and really brings this building to life. I love old and funky hotels and do not have a problem with things not being perfect--that's part of the experience. Having said that, everything in our room (32) operated just fine--hot water was hot, toilets flushed and water turned off all the way, bed was comfy. The room and linens were immaculately clean. It is apparent the owners take a lot of pride in this building.

Fun to stay in this historic spot on the plaza. The hotel and rooms certainly have character that is hard to get these days. We heard a little noise, nothing of significance, but also a Monday night stay. I don't think we would have been comfortable here long term, but really great to experience. Just a note that there is nowhere to store bags prior to check-in.
