Don Antonino Relais

Sorrento|0.1km from Pasticceria Monica
Not really sure how to score this one. The room we were allocated was beautiful, no doubt about it. It was also apparently an upgrade from what we booked. It was located oddly though, essentially running alongside the entrance hall to the property and separated by just glass doors and windows. We slept quite heavily but it may disturb some people. The room had a damp problem too. It smelt of damp and they were obviously having problems keeping the paint on the walls. Beautiful though, and well thought out decor. Breakfast was very good and the servers were lovely. The location wasn’t great, on a fairly busy road in the not-so-nice end of Sorrento. Our biggest issue was with parking. It says everywhere that it’s free. 48 hours before we arrived we got a text to say that as we hadn’t booked parking (which we didn’t know we needed to) it was now full. There’s no car park, just a few designated spaces out the front. We were told that parking in Sorrento was very difficult (that’s putting it mildly!) and that we would have to walk 5 mins and pay for parking instead. It’s was actually about .75 of a mile away in a very dodgy set up where it says it’s a tow zone and you pay a man in a hut €20 every day! We weren’t happy about this but did get it reimbursed by the hotel. The reception staff were a little lacking in either knowledge or perhaps just attention to detail. It’s a shame as the owner herself was very reasonable. We won’t be back, but at the same time, it’s not somewhere I would tell people to avoid either. Just book your parking in advance and accept that it’s around 1km walk to the Town.

Sorrento Relais

We stayed at the Sorrento Relais for 5 nights in May. It is a family operated Bed and Breakfast. The location was good. For example, it was close enough to walk to the train station. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We appreciated the variety of choices available for breakfast and the pleasant service we received. Pasquale was helpful with suggestions for activities and I wish we had contacted him before we came. We were looking for a place at a reasonable price and Sorrento Relais worked well.

We stayed here for one night in April 2023. Given some of the previous reviews we were more than pleasantly surprised. Our stay started well, the lady on reception (whose name we can’t remember) was extremely welcoming and helpful. We were upgraded to a road facing superior room which had been newly refurbished. It was lovely with a great bathroom. We were worried about the traffic noise but with the balcony doors closed it was fine. We would not recommend spending a long time on the balcony given the main road location but there is a pool area with plenty of outside space. The bar was very good and well run. The bar prices were competitive. The hotel is a ten to fifteen minute walk to Piazza Tasso. Located near the hotel is the excellent Banana Split Bar and Master Hosts Restaurant (don’t be put off by the name, we found the food really good and the prices reasonable). There is also a pub next to the hotel, but we did not try that. The breakfast is as others have said not a four star breakfast hence our score of four not five.

The sea view room is beautiful, and the environment of the ordinary room is also very good. The most noteworthy thing is the Michelin restaurant in the hotel. The black truffle pasta is the best I have ever eaten. The breakfast is also very good. The warm service must be praised with five stars.
Grand Hotel de la Ville

The Grand Hotel de La Ville , is a very friendly and comfortable hotel well situated only 5 - 10 minutes walk to the centre of Sorrento. We arrived early and were very grateful that our room was ready at 11 a.m . We really appreciated that our request for an early check-in was able to be accomodated. If they couldn't there was a safe place we could've left our luggage if we had needed to. Our room was a Premier sea view on the fourth floor affording excellent views over The Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius. The views from the 5th floor and the rooftop bar are even more impressive. The room had everything you'd need with plenty of storage space. The king-size bed was very comfortable with the best pillows I've rested my head on in a long time. There are plenty of power sockets including a multi-connector phone charger and a UK plug socket . All the staff were extremely friendly, efficient and helpful and a pleasure to deal with. It was my wifes birthday whilst we were there and the hotel generously left a bottle of sparkling wine in our room for her on the day, a lovely and much appreciated gesture. We would definitely recommend this great hotel and hope to return one day when back in Sorrento.
