Somewhat of a disappointing experience overall. On our very first evening during dinner, a staff member (likely in his 50s) approached our table and asked if we would like any drinks. Naturally, we thought this was a courteous part of the service and ordered five soft drinks. However, after promptly bringing over the 7UP bottles and opening them, he immediately asked us to pay. We were genuinely shocked and embarrassed, especially as this happened publicly in front of other staff and guests. At no point was it made clear that these drinks were chargeable and it felt as though we had been misled. To make matters worse, even basic drinks — including water, regularly ran short during meals, with not enough available for everyone dining. For a hotel of any standard, this was quite poor. We also found the hotel to be extremely inflexible in its approach to guest requests. We politely asked whether it would be possible to swap our evening meal for afternoon lunch when checking in, simply to make it easier to plan activities with our family. Our intention was to spend evenings out together, have dinner elsewhere and enjoy a walk before returning to the hotel. Despite the request costing the hotel nothing extra and even after we offered to pay a supplement as goodwill, the answer was a firm refusal with no willingness to accommodate us whatsoever. Additionally, despite paying for half board during temperatures exceeding 30°C, no complimentary bottled water was provided in the rooms for our family. This really should be a basic standard rather than an optional extra. Overall, the experience was disappointing. The restaurant staff gave the impression of taking advantage of new guests regarding drinks, reception staff were rigid and unhelpful when dealing with reasonable requests and the lack of bottled water in rooms added to the frustration. Unfortunately, this combination of poor service and inflexibility means we would not consider staying here again.
