Isla Grand Beach Resort

Isla Grand Beach Resort

South Padre Island|2.64km from city center
Bottom Line Up Front: This place is a circus of a ”Motel 6” on the beach. I booked this hotel well in advance of an anniversary trip and the disconnect at the beginning should have been a warning sign. I booked, I paid, and no confirmation was sent...a week later I called, no answer, call was dropped once answered, three attempts later I was speaking to someone and they emailed a confirmation (brilliant!). The big day finally arrives and after a 7 hour drive we arrive at the Isla Grande Beach ”Resort”. To be fair, the front looks nice as does the lobby, but it is a facade. We booked a Beach View room outside of the main hotel tower in their two story buildings which flank the pool and neither of which really had a beach view (you could make out the water if you could see past the buildings of the pool, the people, etc) but ”beach view” is a bit misleading. We checked in and were given a map to our room. The parking lots closest to these rooms is a small strip, encumbered by dumpsters, tight parking, and other obstacles. We navigate through the labyrinth of creepy hallways to access the path to our room, yes! we made it! We were immediately greeted by our second story neighbor's yapping dogs out on the balcony who were none too happy to have a downstairs neighbor. After a brief talk with my wife we both decided that this wasn't going to work, and that we came to South Padre to relax. Barking dogs did not fit in that equation. I lugged our baggage back to the car and returned to the front desk. They seemed quite surprised by my report and we were offered another room on the opposite side of the pool and assured me they would send someone to speak with the guest about his dogs. Back to the rental car and on to the opposite, but equally creepy, parking lot scenario along with additional outdoor hallways reminiscent of a parking garage. We arrive to our new locale and all seems quiet on this side, and aside from passing by a room that was smelled like it was hosting a Cheech and Chong style gathering (it stunk of weed for those who are not familiar), this just might work! The room is remarkably outdated, really cheap furnishings and the smell of many a year of service. There are one inch gaps under the door that adjoins our neighbor's room allowing the full auditory experience of their conversations, bathroom use, etc (but more about that later). I make the final journey to the car and back with our remaining luggage and beach gear, its unseasonably warm for September so I am thoroughly looking forward to a swim and some relaxation! My wife, still in a bit of shock to the 1980s style (and smell) of the room is also excited to relax. No sooner can I unzip the suitcase and our neighbors return from their outing which clearly involved copious amounts of booze as these ladies are loud, slurred, and generally unaware of their broadcast. Now I can hear conversations (which I never should have heard), bathroom use, and the elder of the group a 50 so

I booked the hotel for our wedding anniversary and specially booked a room with hot tub. We went there for two nights, Wednesday and Thursday. The afternoon of the second day, the bar across the street was playing music very loud but we went to the beach thinking they would stop by the time we got back. They did not. We went to get dinner and came back. The music was so loud I could not hear the tv in our room. We could not enjoy the hot tub because of the extremely loud noise. I asked the front desk if there was a noise ordinance and they told me that would be playing like that till 2 am. To make matters worse, the front desk guy, Rafa, told me ”that is how they make their money, We are in a tourist place” Well, I'm a tourist too, I told him, and I will not come back here.” And indeed they played till 2 am, so loud it was that it felt that our room was a night club. I called the police but that didn't help at all, In fact, it seemed like a while after the call they played even louder. The next morning front desk staff confirmed that because the island is ”the entertainment district” there is no noise ordinance and there is nothing they could do. ”the bar is just there, you can call the police, people have tried but....” where the words of the morning staff. Also, the 'continental breakfast advertised” did not exist. Instead, they provided waffle makers and had a hot buffet that was a biskquit, sausage and scrambles ”fake” eggs. Horrible coffee and half a cup of orange juice that was pre-packed. The wifi was impossible to use at night and the reception in our phone was bad too, who knows why. Also our phone did not work and the remote was missing the cover for the battery compartment and I had to go request they tape it because the batteries kept coming off. DO NOT GO THERE, I know I will not. It was not worth what we paid. DO NOT GO THERE, if you want to spend quite nights. I know I will not go back.

This is going to be straight to cut. I took off from office to travel to South Padre and being an IHG Member , paid through my precious points to be at ”The Resort”. Lobby was effective and felt that I am going to be at a great place. I had forgone my salary for the vacation. This is just to say that this is the amount of effort , money and time I spent for this holiday. Check-in was smooth and then the ordeal started. The front office manager told us that this property is not an IHG property and still conversion. The room assigned was super dirty , doors would not work , had an awful smell and it was worst than a motel. To top it , I was supposed to pay the resort fees. I just told them that I was not interested and for the next 4 hours in the property, I waited , called IGH helpline to be kept on wait. Nothing happened. Thirsty and distraught , the person on front office offered help in finding me another room and did whatever best he could. On my return , I called IHG again and was given 500 points to my account and no resolution. I need my points back which I spent for this stupid holiday. IHG - You really spoilt my vacation to the extent possible. Lastly , people at the property are excellent , helpful but they cannot change the awful and nasty property. Do not , for god sake , penalize people like this. If you intend to really respond , do tell me an email ID where I can send reservation details - give me my points back. At the same time , reasonably saying - I lost my hours , gas , effort and time . Equals out I have called your lines multiple times but unable to get someone - I am your customer and tired , I wrote on TripAdvisor.

Peninsula Island Resort & Spa - Beachfront Property at South Padre Island

We have been to South Padre and stayed at many places, so this was not our first time by any means on the island. The staff were great, the pool was nice needs tile work and some updating yet very refreshing. We stayed 6 night and they upgraded us a bit because we did not like the first room. The room only has a small fridge not a full size like most condos do. The pool music selection was awesome yet they started it every day at 7am which is not too friendly to guests who would like to sleep in, I suppose if you were on the backend it may not matter but we want as best a view and by the pool if possible. The WIFI was horrible almost dial up speeds and they never got if fixed, luckily we don't need it very often on trips but my wife did have a small amount of work to do. The restaurant had good food, was totally under used though, very few in there. They also offered service on the beach. Overall its not a bad place at all, good location, nearby to a lot of places to eat and within walking distance of shops too.

I had such a great trip here! My wife and I got married at the beach and we used this hotel for our wedding block. The staff was nice and helpful, rooms were exceptionally clean, and the breakfast was on point. It’s such a close walk to the beach, shops and food!

This resort refused to honor my confirmed and paid for reservation that I booked in June of 2021 booked for May 2022 because the resort was purchased by Holiday Inn (one would think all confirmed reservations would have been brought up in their due deligence prior to purchase). I was not contacted until one week prior to our trip that they were canceling my reservation even though the lady told me they did honor previous reservations for other guests. Travel accommodations were already made and time requested off so here we are left to scramble to find somewhere last minute to stay. The person that contacted me made no offer of helping book a room with the Holiday Inn booking system and was overall very unhelpful. Extremely disappointing that such a large company would act with so little regard for paying guests.
Margaritaville Beach Resort South Padre Island

Very good resort hotel, beautiful and convenient. The hotel is located on the south side of Nampa Island. Except for the RV campground in the southernmost park, there are no taller buildings. If it's not winter, the swimming pool would be nice. There is a boardwalk to the beach behind the hotel. The high-rise room facing south can see the starship base and launch tower. You can imagine how popular this room would be when there is a starship launching. At night, the lights of the Starship Base Assembly Factory and the strobe lights on the launch pad can also be seen on the balcony. This is a great housing option for starship enthusiasts.
