from the outset let me say I did not book this hotel it was a hotel we had to stay in as part of a caledonian travel trip with the name of the hotel not revealed until we were on the bus, i would not have gone if i had known it was a britania (see my reviews of blackpool, leeds, london and liverpool) there was two bus loads staying here plus many other people but only enough seats in the barfor aporx 30 -40 people there was only one barman and one reception staff member so service was slow and at one point the receptionist took unwell and the barman assisted him in the hall for almost an hour while the ambulance arrived, I felt sorry for them but surely another staff could have been found to man the posts. many people complained that there was a huming noise all night keeping them awake,we were on the other side and had the worst view but perhaps lucky not to kept awake. another guest was moved two times after complaints abot flea bites the restaurant staff was two people, one lad was running around being very helpful and apologetic breakfast was very dried out and with out taste, dinner ws okay but I felt rushed as people queued to get in and also we had been given a later time (each bus was given either an early or late slot and ours was too late for my hunger) we also lost our bar seat while in the restraunt. There is a gym but they wanted £4 to use this and I thought this should have been free there was no clean towels supplied over the four days we were there and no sign of room service at all a tramp who was staying in this hotel was thrown out while we were there after being caught urinating in a bush ,the smell of dope from him was really off putting but not as bad as the BO coming from his homeless friend. I thought Britannia could not be anyworse than the afore mentioned Blackpool,Liverpool ,Leeds and London but this was far worse. I actually want to write a better review of the london hotel based on what could have gone wrong now.

Tracy and Lynn were spot on, really went out their way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Both went out of their way to ask how we were and checked if we needed anything whenever they had chance between their busy periods. Can't fault them for their hospitality and really couldn't have felt more welcomed. Hotel is livable and beds are reasonably comfy, rooms could do with a WiFi connection but the staff were happy enough to keep the laptop safe behind reception to download a document using the lobby WiFi when asked. Thanks so much will definitely be back again Regards Your favourite guest Anthony

We stayed here for 1 night half way to our end destination. In hindsight staying in the car would have been more comfortable. The room was basic which was expected with the low rate We paid. However I didn't expect the sub par cleanliness of the room. Floors sticky in the bathroom, carpet had all sorted matted into it and clearly not hoovered well if at all. Bedding wasn't clean. There was blood stains on the fitted sheets, what looked like dribble stains on tbe pillows and an awful stench throughout the hotel. I appreciate that people may say you get what you pay for, however even with a low rate o would have expected a basic level of cleanliness. We told reception about the dirty sheets and were advised the manager would be made aware and would call us. 2 days later and were still waiting to be contacted. Overall a real shame. The building itself has potential and so do the rooms but an overhaul is needed.

Had a good time, came to see a friend in hospital so stayed for the weekend. The staff were excellent absolutely delighted with the hospitality from all staff, don't know all of their names but specifically Lynn from behind the bar, she was rushed off her feet with how busy it got on saturday night. Tracy was in on Sunday and she was bubbly and helpful, went out of her way to ensure we were okay and asked if there was anything we needed. Thanks again Stephen
