Very helpful, friendly desk staff who speak French and English. Clean room with fresh clean sheets. Comfortable bed and pillow. Individual bed lighting. 2 bathrooms for 6 beds. Hot showers. Comfortable room temperature. Locked storage in room. Pay breakfast with hot and cold dishes. 8-9 steps entering the hostel but you can use the elevator after that. Good wifi. Hostel is located 2 blocks from the old town which is on the island. Near restaurants, shops, Christmas Markets. 15 min walk to the train station, all level ground.

Pros: Booked last minute and they had 1 private room left. Bunk beds, very clean, attached private bathroom. Everything was super clean. They had a luggage storage since I was leaving later. The whole place is super modern. The biggest pro is the location, it's very close to central Strasbourg and everything is walking distance. Cons: Some staff(?) unlocked and opened my door sometime in the morning, which was super weird and unsettling. I think it was a mistake though since right when they opened the door they closed it.

I have a lot to say about Ciarus, both good and bad. First things first: our arrival. Personally, me and my roommate did not have any problems when we arrived and were promptly given our keys by one of the kind people at the front desk. However, upon asking others in our group how their arrival went, it turns out not everybody had the same experience. Another group of friends were told to wait for a while, and when one girl finally got to present her ID to a lady at the front desk, she was told “boys first” and had to go to the back of the line. Strange, I thought when she told me this. It sounded like from half of the students, their arrival was met rudely and did not leave a good first impression. Still, I continued on with high hopes for our stay here. The first week itself went well, actually! The room I was to stay in was very spacious, we had a beautiful view of the street, and the food was buffet style and decent. I personally felt like the room was nice. However, other students complained about how small their rooms felt like, which I didn’t understand until I visited their room and realized it was half of ours. I would definitely recommend studying abroad to continue hosting this program in Strasbourg! The city itself was not a problem at all. Ciarus became somewhat of a problem when we had our first case of COVID among our classmates. On a late night during our second week there, I received a message that someone had gotten COVID. Later on, another case. The next morning, two more cases. Those who had roommates with COVID had to spend the night with them, as the hostel was totally booked. Many students were exasperated by this. Ciarus did not enforce any type of COVID precautions or separation among the different parties. Upon telling Ciarus that we had COVID cases, they apparently were very shocked and angry, but it wasn’t our fault that we caught covid. When we had figured out who was positive and who was negative, Ciarus refused to allow us to have more rooms to house the negative roommates that were to be kicked out, forcing a reshuffling of rooming situations. A student I knew ended up in a very tiny room with two other students, giving almost no space for their belongings. They had two pairs of bunk beds, meaning 4 beds total. However, one of the beds had already been used by a COVID positive person, and another bed was discovered to have blood splatters on it… they asked the front lady if someone could come and take out and replace the sheets, but refused because of COVID, although everyone was all negative. We tried another staff member, who assured us some clean linens would be provided–linens that never even came. One of them had two options–sleep on the bloody bed or a bed contaminated with COVID. Our cohort was asked to wear masks in the hotel, even though the rest of us were negative. Very rude receptionist. No Airconditioning at all. Don’t come near this hostel during summer. The day time temperature is 90-101 F this year (2022). Expect long lead time if things in the room is broken and need a fix, eg Bathroom light bulb. I asked for a fresh bedsheets the lady in the front desk just rolled eyes at me and said she would handle it tomorrow. But it’s been 3 days past nobody came. The cafe food is trash. The house keeping doesn’t take out garbage.

Everything is perfect from the location, the welcome (impeccable service and the employees always ready to satisfy the needs of their customers despite an indefinite passage of school group through the extraordinary choice of breakfast and dinner, extra services offered (the piano, a games room including table football, billiards and board games and rest room) What more could you want! Terrible experience, the superhuman standards they have such as the cost of the room is not worth the stay, the only good thing is the location so the owner takes advantage of it. Those strict rules include not being able to eat in the room, not being able to be in the hallway after 10 p.m.; so if you want to go to a bar or do nightlife it will not be possible. Trimmers' inn we take everything because of the other rooms which could have animals everywhere, everyone was bitter except the housekeeping staff but despite the inconveniences we had a good time.

First of all: I did not stay at this hostel because I had to cancel my trip two weeks in advance due to health reasons. Therefore, I cannot comment on things like the facilities, cleanliness, comfort of the hostel. It may be that all of this is great. What I can say, however, is that I have never experienced a hostel that is so inflexible when it comes to cancellations. In their defense, I have to say that it was clear beforehand that free cancellation was not possible. I also did not expect to get sick. But when I finally had to cancel, I did not expect to get any money back, even though I had canceled two weeks in advance. Interestingly, Hostelworld says that this hostel can be canceled free of charge. Why is that? I thought that was not possible. When I asked the reception manager, they said that whether or not cancellations were possible depended on the amount. Aha. When I asked what amount you could cancel for free, I received no answer. She had previously said that I had not cancelled in time. Very strange. My question about when I should have cancelled also remained unanswered. I had to write three messages in total to even get an answer. Even my suggestion of getting a voucher or postponing the booking to a later date was not even responded to. In my opinion, that is absolutely not good customer service. I have travelled a lot and there are countless hostels and hotels that accommodate you when you cancel or rebook and at least refund you part of the amount if you cancel in time (I'm not talking about cancelling just one day before). In my opinion, the hostel's cancellation policy is unfair and backwards. There are so many hostels where this is different. For me at least, this hostel is no longer an option and I would not recommend it to anyone.
