Reviews of Sunset Hill House

The Hideaway Inn Franconia Notch is an old unique Inn in a spectacular setting that has seen better days. That being said, our room was large and comfortable (309), clean, and beds were fine. AC was window units that were loud but we just opened windows and were fine. We really enjoyed the mountain views (sat out on lawn in chairs), the pool table, and various games (e.g., chess), though some games have seen much better days (e.g., darts, 'bowling'). In the entry, there is coffee (push button different options) and hot water machine for tea (tea bags provided), milk in little frig, separate water dispenser with cold, sparkly, and hot water options, and a cooler with ice in packs which were all good and nice to have. Check in was definitely not smooth--we did not get code, had to call, got code but they told us wrong building, etc., so about 15 minute hassle. Great location to get to many places in White Mountains and plenty of food options within 15 minutes or less. Would say if you can accept some bumps but want a spectacular setting with some fun side options like pool then this is a great place. If you are easily annoyed and want perfection, don't stay here.

This hotel has changed hands and is currently undergoing renovations upon our stay. None of this was conveyed to us as customers. I am here to caution others who have stayed in the Sunset Hill House or plan to stay in the immediate future to look elsewhere. Currently the restaurant is closed, the pool is filled in with dirt, and the entire downstairs is full of boxes and clutter. One room is still available with a water purifier, a keurig, and a couch. The back parch facing the mountains had trash throughout, jumbled chairs, and a coat of pollen as it had not been cleaned in some time. I told myself this was fine--we would just explore the community and go elsewhere--but our room was just as bad. The list is long: cheap curtains that didn't cover the windows, paint stains in the sink, holes in the wall, an incorrectly sized shower curtain with a leaky shower fixture that sprayed water into the bathroom, a single end table with no seating to relax inside the room, a roku tv that had not been set up, a loud/old window AC unit that would be blocked if you wanted the curtains covering the window. This all seems thrown together quickly and haphazardly to try to accommodate the bookings they have during their renovation when they really should have notified us. I would likely have come back after the renovation if they gave me this notice. Now, I will not be returning to this hotel again. Fortunately, we love NH and will return but I feel for those seeking their first get away to the white mountain region and end up at this hotel in its current state. Bottom line: Steer clear.

Currently sleeping on the floor because the bed ****** so bad. Hotel is run down and in need of repair. All the carpets are tattered and the shower is like a campground size small fiberglass square. No elevator. Plan on hauling your luggage up a couple flights of stairs and parking across the street.

Overpriced and the website misrepresents the rooms and the common areas. The outside vestibule carpet was in tatters. We were woken up at 5:00 by a piercing sound that turned out to be a fire alarm and a handful of people stood outside in the dark in their pajamas. Why would so little people be staying here in September?? Because it ******. There was no breakfast served and no apologies or suggestions for other places offered. There was no blankets besides a cheap fleece throw on the bed. Carpet was threadbare, the room looked like a cell and was not much bigger than a cell. The windows overlooked a lower roof.

This inn has really gone downhill. It is now owned by a large company who owns several other inch and they just don’t care. The cozy central spaces are all gone and they no longer have a dine in restaurant. The view is still good but the services are terrible.

A beautiful building, we enjoyed the sunrise out back. Room was okay we didn’t interact much with staff escort for greeting upon arrival and departure, no complaints there. The shared spaces seemed nice, we just briefly walked around the inside of the hotel the next morning. We were tired and got in late in the evening. When I got into the shower I realized there was hair and a hair tie left in there. Yuck!

Location excellent, especially to view foliage. Hotel somewhat run down - especially given the price of $250 a night. Bathroom very small.

Our room was dirty and uncomfortable with a very odd bathroom. It had one counter with a wobbly faucet, exposed plumbing and no storage.For $300/night I would have expected more than plastic drinking cups and body wash in a beat-up old bottle. There was a beautiful view, but the windows were filthy. Don’t waste your money!

Standard sunrise room for Orbitz was not the room we got although Inn said this is what we are supposed to be in. Pretty basic compared to pic we booked. Not sure booking directly with Inn would have gotten us any better room according to pics on Inn website so I just let it be. Not here for long.

We were disappointed with our stay. It seems like Covid made them change to be less user friendly. When we stayed pre-Covid they had a great dinner and breakfast, not any more. Now you can buy $19 burgers to go along with your $9 draft beer or $15 mixed drink. Previously the golf was included in your room, now it’s $25/35 to play a crabgrass infested course and unputtable greens. At night we ventured out to look at the stars and sit by the gas fire pit. Seeing the stars was difficult with bright spot lights shining on us and the fire pit had no fuel. The bar opens at 5:00 and closes promptly at 8:00. Bring your own drinks, it’ll be cheaper and if you want to sit outside in the spotlight for an after dinner drink you will be able to. It’s too bad, because it is a very unique building with a great location but our party of 4 will not be returning, or recommending it.

Traveling as a group of 3, we chose the Sunset Hill House as we wanted a quiet, quaint experience while staying one night in New Hampshire. The area is beautiful. The premises was very pretty with good views of the White Mountains. We stayed in the Master Suite. The room was very spacious and we enjoyed the view. The pull out couch bed was not very comfy but we expected it to be like that. The King bed was nice. The patio was a little loud having the kitchen fan? right next to it. We enjoyed a glass of wine and wandered the premises taking in the Fall colors. We too encountered rude morning staff. Overall, we had a good experience.

We have not yet stayed at The Sunset Hill House, but the staff get 5 stars for their flexibility when a sick toddler postponed our travel plans on consecutive weekends. Excellent customer service. "5,002 thumbs up," as the toddler would say.

The area is beautiful, and the Inn is very nice. But We were so disappointed with our room. It has a massive jacuzzi tub which doesn't allow us to really enjoy it. We didn't ask for a jacuzzi and the seating area is so sub par. We saw photos of rooms with nice seating area, with club chairs and we expected this. So make sure and tell them if you don't want a Jacuzzi tub in your room. Room is very clean. Tv is tiny---another negative. Bathroom extremely clean and looks updated

Rooms are small no table for personal items shower stall so small can’t move in it again no where for personal items bed is soggy morning pastries are straight from the Sisco truck. Morning staff not pleasant.
