Holiday Inn Express & Suites SUMNER - PUYALLUP AREA by IHG

“Mixed bag”: a “functional” place to stay! If you have business (warehouses and distribution centers all around) or needing a one night stay in this area, this HIE is all you need.  for longer than a day/night, the overall stay not as good.  It’s not really close to anything in Seattle or Tacoma.  The freeway that provides access to I-5 + I-5 itself can be a nightmare for slow traffic.  One hour plus for us to get Pike Place, leaving at 7 am Monday.  Tacoma is easier; typically 30 min. Hotel is clean, 95% friendly staff; the hotel gets dinged for noises outside (sounded like someone was faintly tapping our door all night) the occasional train coming by, and one morning of poor water pressure.  Turn down service is middle of the road, not picking up everything then forgot us one day.  Manager on duty quick to bring us comforter for cold night there. The Latina who typically runs the breakfast on the main level is fantastic!  Sweet, always smiles; she keeps that area consistently super clean snd the food fresh! Kudos for the high tech Bunn coffee maker that grinds fresh beans for each cup.

Good sleep is very important for travelling. The room was quite and clean to stay, easy to sleep.

Very nice hotel, clean and good breakfast. The gym is a good place to spend your night after a big meal. Front desk staff are very helpful and will try their best to address your needs. Recommended.

Usually this place is 5 stars. So many issues this stay (I've stayed at this place a lot). The day before, I got a local call from the hotel, no voicemail. I redialed the number and was assured by the front desk my reservation was fine. I asked if the pool and hot tub were working and told they were. On the day of, the key didn't work right away, so they reprogrammed the door. Then one the lights didn't work. They gave us a lightbulb to fix it. It worked for a minute then died. We had to be moved to a new room. The hot tub was broken, I had called the day before and was told it was fine. Then the next day the pool said it was closed until evening. I called the office and they told me it didn't open until later, but we've always been told it opened at 9 am (the lady who checked us in said 9 am too). The manager did a poor job of listening to my concerns. She told me ******* must have called the day before. Why would ******* know anything about the pool condition? And I pointed out that I was talking to her because I refused the number. I only had the direct line because the front desk had called me (hence our day before call confirming the pool worked). She said the hours of the pool were 10-10 which is not what we had been told. She said the pool hours were posted in the pool room. When it did finally open, I looked at the sign. No hours. None anywhere. She totally lied. No "I am sorry about your experience." Just inferring that I couldn't be telling the truth. Awful.

The room was clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and very helpful with everything. The breakfast was amazing. Ten out of ten for us.
