Reviews of Natural Onsen Hostel Hidamari No Yu

The worst hotel I’ve stayed at in all my visits to Japan. The room was tiny and dirty, with shared toilets, and kids’ arcade games playing annoying music all the time, except between 12 AM and 6 AM, right behind the room door. The linens were dirty, so we had to sleep in our clothes and use our jackets as pillows. No bed or tatami — just dirty mattresses on the floor. This might pass for a youth hostel, but $100 is not a hostel price. The hotel is also far from the city center, and the public bus runs only once every two hours. The only good thing is the free shuttle, but it’s also infrequent. The so-called onsen is just a big public bath with chlorinated water and requires an extra fee of 900 JPY — horribly overpriced. Definitely not recommended.

Genuine Japanese style accommodation in an Onsen. Facilities are limited but one encounters Japan like no other. Admitting that sleeping on a mattress next to each other is not for everyone and so might be the public shower in the Onsen. Shuttle bus to the city is needed as its quite far from the city centre. Luggage storage is very limited. Curfew at 11pm without exception.

We all slept together in a dormitory, and the person sleeping next to me snored so loudly that I could barely sleep... I won't be using this hotel again.

The journey is a bit difficult for tourists who want to leave early in the morning.

The location is far. If you choose this place because of its cost-effectiveness, you will regret it a bit. If you want to exercise, this is the place. There's a city bus, so find it and let's go. Bathing is a public bathhouse. It’s comfortable to think of a sauna. The only place to sleep is in a bed, there is a restaurant, and there is a game console. It feels like a place where grandparents can gather and relax.
