"I always try and support small independent hotels with fair but positive reviews. But I'm going to make an exception for this place. The place was covered in scaffolding when I arrived. Fair enough, I thought, they're spending money on maintenance - re-roofing the building. I suspect I was the only guest that night. The guy in the t-shirt vaping on the steps turned out be the receptionist - didn't need to ask my name. To say the interior was scabby and dingy was an understatement. In the corridors, large patches of black mould on the walls, peeling paper, buckets to catch the water coming through the ceilings. The room was at least dry, but basic and cramped with a bathroom of about 2 square meters (I measured it, roughly), about the size of a train toilet, with the basin relegated to the room itself. I had to stand on the toilet seat to open the shower door. No doubt there are all sorts of building regs being flouted here - you wouldn't get away with this in a domestic property never mind a hotel. There was a restaurant of sorts, in the basement, reached by red-carpeted stairs with a filthy blackened track down the centre. I didn't bother. There was a "lounge", full of junk. But the real lowlight was the bar, "open till 11", a sort of real-ale place. Great I thought, it's 10, I'll have a pint. I hadn't banked on the surliness of the barmaid, I'd obviously intruded on her evening's solitude. I settled for a half while she upended stools and mopped the floor around me in hostile silence. I've read some of the good reviews - and don't recognise the place. Someone must have made a cynical decision to keep the place open when it needed to be closed completely for the serious roof issues to be sorted. And that's unforgivable. This place is a disgrace."

Travelodge Tamworth Central Hotel

Travelodge Tamworth Central Hotel ★★★

📍 Bolebridge St, Tamworth

"Do not stay here in summer months, there is no air con and they think it is acceptable to put 4 people (2 adults and 2 children) in a stifling room with a desk fan, laughable. My husband also arrived around 30 mins after me, his name wasn't on the booking but he was given a key without being asked for ID or any information. Extremely worrying that travelodge seem to still be doing this, especially after all the media coverage of this occurring elsewhere."

The Peel Aldergate ★★★★

📍 13-14 Aldergate, Tamworth

"Stayed in this quaint hotel whilst visiting family. Built in the 1900s it’s an old hotel but, very comfortable and clean. There is a long flight of stairs leading up to little corridors before finally getting to my room.My room was quite spacious with a four poster bed but, the bathroom was really, shall we say, compact!!The lady on reception did warn me it was a small bathroom but, the room itself was of a good size. It had plenty of drawer space and a wardrobe. Tea and coffee making facilities with a nice clean kettle. The room faced the street but, the road noise during early morning peak and the evening wasn’t bad at all. A great little radiator which warmed up the room very nicely. A very pleasant dinning room and bar which served breakfast and evening meals but, you could get a coffee or a drink from the bar in the afternoon. The restaurant and bar were closed from 3pm Mondays and Tuesdays but, served guests with breakfast. The dinning room is on street level so you can watch the passing parade whilst having your breakfast etc.. The restaurant had entertainment on the Sat night which was very pleasant .. The staff were very friendly and housekeeping was pretty much everyday and I was there for 7 nights. Overall a very pleasant stay opposite a small park and buses. A short walk to shops and pubs ….. Would have no hesitation in staying there again one day……."

Premier Inn Tamworth Central Hotel ★★★
"Room was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable, room is basic but it was as expected. I am lactose intolerant and was told I would have to go to the Beefeater next door to get some milk if I wanted a hot drink in our room, as the don't supply anything in the rooms for me. We had breakfast at the Beefeater in the morning, it was ok, my wife had scrambled eggs which she said were a little watery, the fried eggs were hard, but the sausage and bacon were very nice."

"Conveniently located for work meetings as it is walking distance from the business I regularly visit. Bar area, food and staff are nice - no complaints there. Rooms are pretty basic, no water provided in rooms and instead of shower gel the shower they provide hand wash which was strange"

"DO NOT GO. 48 degrees in the rooms manager on the last day was in we left two days early as couldn't cope any more was the only staff member who actually cared told me he wouldn't stay in the rooms go for a full refund. Had to leave early to come stay in a premier inn with AC. Worst hotel experience ever. My son had a fever of 39.9 ended up taking him to Bham hospital and my daughter constantly had nose bleeds from the heat. Enough to kill a dog . Got given a small fan blowing hot air on the kids and was told couldn't move rooms. Had to sleep with the door wedges open and I slept in the chair so noone would walk in on my children. Sickening heat."

"We stayed overnight so that we could visit the Tamworth Tap. We booked one of the superior rooms, it had a 4 poster bed and an ensuite bath and shower. The hotel is within easy walking distance of everything in the town. Including the Castle and St. Edithas church, both of which are well worth a visit. The staff in the hotel are friendly and efficient even though it was quite busy when we were there."
