Superb find, couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay to explore Tangier. Situated at the top of the city within five minutes walk of the medina and the bustling souk below. Great bars and restaurants in the immediate area and right next door to the new Conrad hotel. On that note we were a little surprised that there was not a bar in the hotel, although they served wine. Do not let this put you off though, just bring your own and they will supply the rest! Our room (Iris) was the top floor; we had a large roof terrace to ourselves with superb sea views where we had breakfast everyday, and a lovely fresh breakfast it was! The decor is very quirky, full of antiques and curiosities. The lovely friendly staff could not do enough for us, organising reservations, taxis and giving advice of where to go. Of note is that it is not suitable for people with severe mobility difficulties due to a short walk from road access and also the steps in the hotel. Thank you to Aissa and the rest of the staff for making our stay so lovely, we will definitely return.

The entire place is damp and moldy, which caused us red and itchy eyes and wheezing. Beds were small and uncomfortable and the shower didn't drain properly. We didn't feel safe and comfortable as we noticed that outsiders were coming in and out of the hotel's cafe, located in the back garden. The day of our arrival, we requested an early breakfast for the next morning, as we had scheduled a tour to Chefchouen. The manager agreed to an 8:00am breakfast, however by 8:00am all lights were off, doors were locked and the staff was sleeping. We left without breakfast that morning. The second day we had to check out early, as we had to catch an 8:00am train to Marrakech... Again, by the time we left the hotel, between 7:00-7:30am, all lights were off, doors locked and the staff sleeping. We had to leave the keys on a table at the entrance of the staff's sleeping quarters. We assumed the manager was going to charge the credit card on file, they had requested a credit card to confirm the reservation. During our 5 hour train ride to Marrakech we had limited internet access, but at some point, we received a message from the manager of the hotel saying we left the hotel without paying and threatening us with calling the police. This is totally unacceptable and inappropriate. No check-out process was possible b/c the staff was sleeping. If the staff doesn't wake up at a decent hour, they should make check out arrangements with hotel guests the day prior to their departure. After we confirmed that no charges had been made to the credit card, we requested to speak to the owner of the hotel to formally complaint about the disrespectful manner in which we were treated by the manager. We were never able to speak to the owner of the hotel, perhaps the manager never informed the owner. In our last exchange with the manager, we provided the credit card information and informed him that we will complaint to the Moroccan authorities to ensure that tourists are protected from this kind of harassment. Morocco is a beautiful country and we met lovely and professional people during our visit to Tanger and Marrakech, it is unfortunate that we had such a terrible experience at the beginning of our visit to Morocco. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else, the hotel Aux 3 Portes is not a nice place and the staff is even worse.

The house and its garden are lovely and furnished with much taste and love. It was enchanting. The arrival was a bit bumpy as the taxi driver put us in the wrong place on the street, and then we were immediately led through the manageable Medina by what is known in Morocco as a false guide. The forcefulness of this person, especially when it came to an appropriate fee for his service, surprised us to some extent. Be prepared and have small notes or coins in MDH in your wallet. A warm welcome with tea in an exotic ambience quickly made the initial culture shock disappear. Waking up to the sound of the sea and the last view of Europe from the breakfast terrace was indescribably beautiful. The breakfast was delicious, rich, not to say far too much for two grown men. Despite the shortness of our stay, it was a crowning glory to be able to admire the beautiful garden of the house—a perfect introduction to this country.

A éviter SVP
